  • If you look next month, it'll be down even further

    • i hope, i am not really in a position to rush for the computer, maybe sometime by end of the year lol

good cpu for the value bit better than the ryzen 5 3600

for gaming yes a bit better.
For multi tasking and being future proof as much as you can be no.

The 10400 is no slouch in non-gaming tasks, they're both 6c/12t CPUs. For $250 that's a very fine budget CPU.

If you're buying any 6c/12t CPU with the intent of being "future proof" when the new consoles are using 8c/16t monolithic Zen2 CPUs, neither will serve you well long term. But if you're buying this as a budget option to tide you over as you slowly upgrade your system, I don't think either is a bad choice, although you'd want to do some research right now. Like if you're buying an older budget motherboard (B450 or X370 or similar) you may not even get Ryzen 4000 support to upgrade to (it's up to mobo manufacturers if they bring out a patch), but assuming you got something from the 500 series, you're only looking at 1 gen of forward compatibility, which is the same as the Intel platform (rocketlake is on the same socket as the 10400).

If you're concerned about PCIe4 support going forward, the only one that provides any kind of guaranteed full support will be the expensive X570 chipsets. B550 supports PCIE4 for a single nvme slot, but won't support it for graphics cards (or at least most boards don't). Intel's Z490 will support PCIe4 for Rocketlake CPUs (this has been accidentally revealed by several gigabyte mobo promotional materials), but the degree of compatibility is currently unknown. In any case, I don't think many people are buying budget CPUs while also worrying heavily about PCIE4 compatibility.

In reality, I don't think the most budget conscious people will be too stressed about PCIe gen 4 compatibility.

        • B550 supports PCIe 4.0 for a graphics card and an M.2 slot, but I agree the case for PCIe 4 isn't there yet

    • If you put this in a board that disregards intel power limits and use a Z series board with overclocked RAM then it would be as good maybe even a bit better then the 3600 in gaming, the 3600 still beats it in non gaming tasks. Just remember if you pair it with a H or B series board you're limited to 2666mhz memory which limits its gaming performance, especially if the board sticks to intels power limits.

Still a really good CPU and great value.

    • It's not true:

                 Intel Core i5-10400F @ 2.90GHz AMD Ryzen 5 3600

Ryzen 5 3600 is much better.

    F doesn't have integrated graphics.

If you have eBay Plus it's probably worth paying the extra $4 for the i5-10400. (Coupon: P15ACE)

Even if you have no need for the iGPU now, it could prove useful in the future if you want to repurpose for something else when you upgrade.

    • Good for troubleshooting, when I first started to use Intel, there were no iGPU and until today I haven't used any for a long time. But if the difference is high, it is better to get F

      • +1

For $4 extra the 10400 over the F is worth it

        • Definitely worth for $4

      • I used my Intel graphics to work out if my GPU was causing BSODs, played Diablo 3 at 720p (maybe lower) and lowest settings for days waiting for a BSOD.

Usually these is a $50 difference between F and non-F models, $4 def worth it IMO.

    • Definitely handy to have iGPU if your graphics card dies and you don't have any spares laying around

    Blue brigade, here we come

Im always pro AMD, and know that intel had an fps edge, but with this price why would someone go for a Ryzen 3600 (assuming new motherboards)

    • Very true. I bought 3600 because it is cheaper than Intel. But at this price, would not hesitate to buy Intel as I have always been an Intel fan boi. Ryzen 3 series looks to me as an unpolished product (eg constant CPU temp fluctuations)

      • Ex Raizen fanboy here due to “cheaper component” but pc constantly high in temp and crash
