  • has anyone played this on the switch? even with 50% its pretty expensive.
i enjoy the game at the arcade though.

    • You could try the demo. I'm still waiting for my drum kit to arrive to play it however my mate played it with joycons/touchscreen and enjoyed it.

      • What type of drums did you get for it? I'm looking to buy some myself but I don't know if it's worth cheaping out and getting a knock off kit or just getting a hori.

        • Don't bother with the Hori they need to be modded in order to be worth the money, unless you don't mind tinkering with it. If you can find the knock off one for roughly $60-70 go for it - it'll do just as fine.

          • @PorkHunt: I was under impression Hori Drum Kit is better than others.
Do you have more to mod non-Hori one similar way?

          • @PorkHunt: I have both the Hori and a knockoff from aliexpress, The Hori is thousands of times better than the knock off. The fake is utter trash I really regret purchasing it, I feel bad giving it to friends when we do 2 player.

The hori just has a "breaking in" period. You need to belt it about 1000 times to loosen up the tension in the drum "skin" or whatever it's called. I've used the Hori a lot, and I mean a lot, we've belted on it for the last month or so and after that initial period it still isn't missing a single hit, can get 100% combos on the songs I know every time with the Hori. With the fake I can never get a 100% combo.

I purchased at full price on release as I was a pretty big fan from playing the PSP/PS2 games, and keen to get back into the Taiko games.

I dropped off the scene a little bit as the WiiU releases and 3DS releases only came out in Japan and due to being region locked, and me never looking into homebrew for either system meant ultimately I missed out.

However the Switch version (and PS4 for that matter) have been very well supported post release with DLC content consistently coming out, but on top of that free updates to the Switch version added in online ranked mode, and literally just yesterday an e-sport tournament mode was also added in to the game - though the master bachio commentator is mighty annoying haha, reccomend you turn the voices to zero volume if you plan on giving the tournament mode a crack haha

I prefer the ranked online mode to the tournament mode so far, especially since you can earn and unlock unique DLC songs (that can't be purchased) simply from playing the game. Those rewards are doled out much like a freemium game though, ie to earn a free song you need to play 30 different songs online across a month, and the song list rotates every week with 10 songs in the pool each time.

    • Comment below from @Benbenbenben. it is currently US$14.99 (~A$20), but I'm not sure if the free DLC's can be played with the US version.

  • where to get the drums?

    • Online from places like Amazon, eBay, etc.

Most likely imported as the game is not popular here.

    • eBay, but be prepared to pay $170+ for the official Hori drum. You can also find knock off ones on eBay for under $80, you can watch a comparison here. Using a Japanese proxy service like From Japan to get the Hori from Amazon Japan is also an option. This probably ends up being the cheapest option, but because of the shipping costs, not by much.

Oh hey, as a heads up, it's actually even cheaper and 70% off on the American eshop!!

    https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/taiko-no-tatsujin-drum…

It's on sale for $14.99USD which is about $20 Australian.

Obviously whilst it is very easy to change your account region to America, it's a little harder to get eshop credit for America as generally most credit cards won't just let you buy on a foreign eshop so you'll typically need to get some eshop credit for that particular region.

Could purchase a $20 eshop card from Play Asia for $30AUD and you'll still be saving some coin

    https://www.play-asia.com/nintendo-eshop-card-20-usd-usa-acc…

from memory though I think you either need to use all of the foreign eshop credit or either it forfeits the remainder, or simply won't let you swap regions if the balance is over $0. Though maybe you could use the remaining $5.01 balance on DLC :-)

Admittedly the region swapping and buying from other regions is a little outside my knowledge base, I've only ever swapped regions on Switch to redeem the free DLC Golden Don chan, and Platinum Don chan from the American eshop, and then swapped back.

edit: OK I did a little bit of googling, and apparently if it is any eshop except America, you can just forfeit the remaining balance, but if it is America it WILL NOT let you swap regions again until the balance has been zeroed out. However, if you contact Nintendo support they can just delete the balance if you request it, but it requires a call to customer support..

Given this little bit of information rather than swapping regions of your regular account, I'd probably just create a second American account if you're going down the route of buying from the US eshop - unless you can perfectly purchase DLC that totals up to $5.01 exactly after buying the game ;-)

    • I was considering getting it off the US eshop but I'm not sure if the 11 free DLC songs can be used with the US version. But if people just want the base game, get the US version, so much cheaper. You can also buy digital gift cards from Amazon US, Target US, Eneba, etc.

Although there are some games that have region locked DLC, for Taiko no Tatsujin there only appears to be two SKU, "Nintendo Switch ver." which is the one released in Asia/Japan/etc and "Drum N Fun" which was released in US/UK/AU/etc

So DLC from America is compatible in Australia and vice versa no worries :-)

Found a little bit more free DLC for those that are keen, they are just selectable characters, no songs included with these ones.

I found them originally as a time-limited DLC on the American eshop (now expired), but I had no idea they actually got a local distribution for Australia, looks like you've just gotta be signed up/registered to BandaiNamco:

    Gold Don Chan:

    Platinum Don Chan:
    https://club.bandainamcoent.eu/eu/product/526502/taiko-no-ta…

edit: I will say I'm consistently getting stuck at the "payment processing" screen and having trouble trying to actually get them to "purchase".
I've already got the gold/platinum chan but I'm keen to get a free DLC song I noticed is available for the PS4 version of the game, and figured if I could get the gold/platinum characters to actually redeem I'd just put the codes up here for someone else to use. Will report back if I can actually get it to go through! Have tried on Edge and Chrome but still getting stuck in a loading loop shrug.

    • Thanks for letting us know!

  • Does anyone know how this compares to Taiko on PS4? I'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting a Taiko Force Lv5 Drum and considering possibly getting a PS4 or Switch.
