Last time I posted a deal for car air fresheners, it was met with “yOu KnOw ThEy CaUsE cAnCeR?¿?¿” so, I’m guessing no one here uses them…

I use a closet freshener, $2.80 from Daiso.

    Pro: It's a huge tub.
    Con: It's a huge tub.

    • How huge is it?

      • Around 15cm * 6cm?

  • I use Chemical Guys air fresheners, always had great experiences with them. Smell of success (stripper scent) and leather scent are great, just a couple sprays onto the carpet and it lasts a while. A bottle should last you a few years.

    • stripper scent

      Sold.

  • The large plastic sachets of fabric conditioner concentrate, that sell for a couple of dollars each, leave a long lasting aroma in a car.

One fell out of my shopping bag and slid under the seat and was there for a few weeks while I tried to figure out where the Lavender aroma was coming from.

Probably wouldn't recommend it as an option but it does last and isn't overpowering.

    • THIS! Same thing happened to me - under the seat after a grocery run a week later and my car was smelling divine!

    • Funny you say that was thinking the exact same thing when i used one in the washing yesterday, didn’t think to use it in the HILUX
ONLY need to find a vanilla one…

    • Large plastic sachets of fabric conditioner concentrate

Any particular brand that you could recommend, please?

I put a few drops of essential oil on the cabin filter. It last ages. Or just put it on an old cardboard car freshener that has lost it's smell
Eucalyptus, tea tree, spearmint. Also, when I have too much basil or rosemary in the garden I hang that in the car.

Ylang Ylang is no good as it sends you to sleep.

Ginger and Sandalwood are no good as you'll get a bit excited which can be awkward.

  • Buy the ones in the clearance bin at woolies ect… although as pegasus said probs a healthy dose of cancer causing infertility. Meh

Just masking smells with more smells

Change cabin filter, wet vac inside. I wetvac used cars I buy, the liquid come up black, then leave in the sun with windows open, much cleaner.

For AC vents that pong or whatever than use this, basically a roach bomb, overpowering for a few weeks and need to leave windows open while parked.

I’m with you. Clean the car, make sure the cabin filter is clean, open the windows a lot, keep the interior fan on and use the AC regularly on fresh air not Recirc.

Prevention is much better than some nasty chemical mask.

    • on that note what are some decent wet vacs?

I am going to be on the side of those people that talk about cleaning your car first, and this is easier said than done as you can't possibly get into every little section, vent, and within the fibers of the materials that hold the smells… without either replacing everything or using a ozone generator.

A while back a friend was selling his car but he had a habit of smoking inside all the time. I am the type of person that deals ok with second-hand smoke, but entering his car I felt like a bucket of cigarette butts were thrown in my face - it was that bad… I got the car for an hour and used a $150 "San Air Ozone Blaster" ozone generator to run a number of different ways including through the re-circulation of air through air conditioning, different placements throughout the car, with a house fan to circulate ozone everywhere within the car, and with a window slightly open as these generators need fresh air to work… basically I had to get every spot…

For a few days the car had that slight metallic smell of ozone but afterwards it was fresh and I can imagine that from that base of nothing you could just leave it as it is or use even the slightest of fragrance or perfume as it would have no other smell to overpower…

    • Smoking in a car is bad news for keeping it clean. I’ve passed on a few cars the second I’ve put my head inside and smelt ashtray.

For everyone else, a regular clean should be enough, unless you have particularly bad BO or leave a carton of milk or kilo of prawns in the back seat.

But sometimes I think just keep your car clean and open the windows?

Or pay a detailer to do a full interior clean.

Only issue is in summer when it is all melted Initial D intensifies

  • Vacuum car every weekend.

  • Vacuum once a week and use some sprays of Oakwood car scent which is sold at Supercheap Auto: does the trick 👍

I use expired perfumes. Spray on mats. It works.

    • Perfumes expire ?

      • I have perfumes for my birthday. Some over 5 years old. Actually, girls perfumes smell better in the car.

  • Aventus sprayed on the cabin filters

  • An pineapple on board helps

  • I can highly recommend this: https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/48352/?cmp…

just keep it in your car for a while. Maybe not on a hot day.. I'd be afraid of it exploding if it gets too warm.
