    Not the Gary Market Product.

    Who is Gary ?

  • This brand or Reolink?

    • My question too - ive got suggestions more for Reolink…..but not sure.

    • +1

I have a reolink 4mp PoE 16 channel system just installed DIY a week ago. If you have questions let me know and I'll try answer them.

      • How much was it?
Currently using Annke Full HD BNC CCTV.
Any differences between HD BNC vs HD POE picture quality/features?
        Is it worth upgrading?

        • +2

I paid $647.99 during a promotion on ebay from Reolink directly.

          3tb 16 channel NVR with 8 cameras.

My comparison is to a Swann system and the reolink is way better than the Swann by far.

Picture Quality during the day/night is good, viewing directly off the NVR its perfect. Via the phone app you lose quality but its good enough to receive notifications from motion detection. Im still playing with the sensitive but so far im pretty happy with the system for what I paid for it.

My only issue is that the provided screws/plugs aren't really good for Cement boards for the eaves. So ill need the replace that.

Is it worth upgrading? I had nothing to begin with. But I feel its a step up from Swann. (I used my mates system as a comparison)

          • @Deuce: Would you have a link for the product item in ebay?

          • @Deuce: Would be interested to know the comparison between Full HD BNC analogue vs POE.

            • @me786: I'm prob not the best person to ask because I have never really dealt with BNC analogue.

Dahua wins in everything but cost. The cheaper options use old tech so better avoiding it unless you want to stick with it or upgrading the whole set. The later 2 options are nvr which are more versatile and you can even add third party cam down thr track.

    • I would go for this brand any day! The enclosure of the camera is metal compared to the cheap and nasty plastic housing on the Reolink RLC-520/RLC-522 models. If you watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2bH9uIjmAg fast forward to 11min35sec and you will see how cheap and nasty the wall mount is. Its so crap that it makes it easy for someone to to steal it.

Im chasing a 8 camera system

    • we can do a package for you.

    • Consider this (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/559994) and add 4 more cameras. Wont necessarily work out cheaper but have used Reolink and they are very good.

Somebody though told me they are rebadged Dahua's so if you get Dahua's, I would imagine, it might be a better deal.

How much to install these usually?

  • What’s the difference between an eyeball and a turret camera?

They look the same to me.

And - by the look these are POE connections, not BNC????

    • +1

The eyeball are BNC and the Turrets are PoE in this kit

  • I want to know how hard these are to self-install.

    • if you know how to run network cables from different points (where you want your camera to be) to a centralised location of where your DVR is then it is quite easy.

    • I did this install DIY with me and a family member (single storey). I drilled all the holes and then fed the fish tape through the hole for him to tape up the ethernet cable and i pulled it through and plugged it in. Its very simple and easy to do. As long as the NVR is in a centralised location and your not running through wall cavities. I mounted mine on the eaves.

  • what is the difference between eyeball and turret? (obviously here you have 4MP and 6MP)
Are the coax cameras called eyeball? The style looks the same.

    • +1

      eyeball = dome like….
turret usually exposed with sensor and lens as shown in the original pic.

  • +2

In this deal the Eyeballs are BNC and the Turrets are PoE.

Eyeball=Turrets (I think they used it to highlight the diff in connection)

    NVR = PoE
XVR = BNC (can do both but is used for BNC majority)

Reolink and Dahuas are both great systems. Reolink has a very easy set up and easy to use, best polished app, but the Dahuas has a few improved software features that help eliminate false positives since the cameras use pixel based detection. Dahua can have cross line intrusion and some cameras have starlight sensor which give colour night vision.

Reolink are soon to release a starlight version with human and vehicle detection.

The Dauha have a greater FOV options with their lense sizes so need to consider it when purchasing. Reolinks are fixed 4mn giving about 85ish degrees of FOV.

Reolink posted a deal that's about half the price so, make your choice will it be the red pill or the blue

    • The only issue with the reolink, is the camera housing is made of plastic and the wall mount is a joke, it can easily be tempered with or stolen.

      • Housing is metal, bracket is plastic. All cameras can be stolen if anybody wanted too. Majority now are all magnetic bases thesedays, cameras that has a tamper proof screw were a joke because they would just rip out the mounting plate off the eves compelty as it's the weakest point

  • Is there a kit available that has 4 x 6mp turret cameras and a 8 channel nvr?

    • Yes, we have. you can contact customer services for your demand.

  • I have an old Hikvision NVR.
The Web UI is very outdated - it requires a lot of jumps through the hoop in order to get browser plugin working.

    Is Dahua any better?

  • if get someone to install does anyone know roughly how much that might cost?

    • I think normally would be $100 to $150 per camera. Which includes internet setup.

Depends if single or double story house.
Single should be easier and cheaper due to cables being laid via manhole in ceiling in most cases.

Cat5e cabling or Cat6 is more than enough for bandwidth required. Benefit of Cat6 over Cat5e is an internal core in the former that makes cable more stable and ensures longevity.

For those willing to buy their own roll and lay themselves I’d suggest to buy LSZH cables (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) as most cables can emit poisonous chemicals/gas during fire or due to heat over time. Few extra $ that are worth it IMHO

Each time a deal like this comes up I suggest the following (for IT literate ppl):

Explore/investigate BlueIris in combination with a Dell Optiplex 9020 machine (Intel Gen 4 CPU or later). Provides more flexibility to grow system and better security when setup with separate POE switch and dual Ethernet ports (eg first port into NVR for incoming Poe based camera traffic via switch, second port for internet access; no routing on NVR).

Friend of mine bought Dahua NVR and when Poe inbuilt Ports failed be had a brick.

For those going down the Dahua camera path, please check benefits/cost of Dahua Starlight and Starlight+ models.

    • not saying you're wrong, but, I've had an LTS recorder blow up its POE ports but the main network port still worked so was able to buy a POE switch and add the cameras manually.

      • Yeah that’s what my friend did as well in the end. Personally I like the modular aspects of BI and use the computer for other simple server related work as well (eg some Powershell scripts)

From an Poe port capacity expansion and “spying” point of concern, I think above setup I suggested is more suitable.

To each their own, of course.
