  • If only it was automatic or mechanical

        Horological Heretic…..lol

If only this car was powered by horses instead of petrol/electricity!

            @vfmtech: Lovely styling but the 45mm lol…

          • +1

@vfmtech: Not quite right. Petrol is better in every way. In the same way quartz (especially solar) is better in every way. For anyone that doesn't appreciate engineering, i wouldn't recommend a mechanical watch.

            • -4

@incipient: I appreciate the engineering that went into getting a tiny piece of sand to vibrate when a bit of electricity is passed through it and have it measure time with such precision without moving parts. Its like NAND v magnetic drives

You'll be looking for the Omega Speedmaster then.

Great if you like inaccuracy and having to manually wind it every day

        • +2

Anyone who spends more than $17 for a plastic Casio digital and is paying to tell the time is irrational. Wearing a watch is a statement.

Speedmaster has multiple variations. One such variation is a manual wind. There are automatic versions where winding is not necessary.

        • I've never wound my Speedmaster. Have you owned an Omega, are you speaking from experience?

          • -2

@MeagerDollarBucks: You must have one of the special cheenese models that don’t need handwinding

            • @vfmtech: So you haven't owned a self winding Omega Speedmaster and therefore have no experience.

              From the Omega website:

"What is the difference between a self-winding and a manual-winding movement?

The difference between these two movements is the way in which the watch is wound up. Manual-winding watches must be wound by hand every day, whereas self-winding watches are wound by an internal rotor which responds to wrist movements. Self-winding watches usually have a power reserve of at least 40 hours and therefore have sufficient energy reserves to maintain a stable rate when the watch is not being worn (e.g. overnight)."

          • +3

@MeagerDollarBucks: There are plenty of different Speedmasters but the "moon watch", the Speedmaster Professional, is manual wind only.

            • @boozed: Yes, it's a very nice watch my colleague has one. Coincidently he was a watch maker in his youth and is a wealth of knowledge regarding watch history and mechanics. My daily is a self winding Speedmaster Schumacher edition, hence my comment.

Best watches are the ones that have solar panels and rechargeable batteries that last 10 years.

    • Agree 100%. My ecodrive diver from starbuy is awesome

btw, this watch has by far one of the most interesting quartz movements ever created.

It runs off a std battery but its 262hz so it runs smooth like an auto but its also more accurate than a normal quartz. Downside is lower battery life, I beleive 2yrs.

I would already own this watch if it was a 42mm or so.

    • -3

Looking at the YouTube video, it doesn't run as smooth as an auto.

    The Bulova Speedmaster

I bought a bulova curved face watch. I ended up returning it because the construction felt incredibly cheap. I swear the band was just plastic, not leather. Not sure it it's across the whole brand or just that one.

    • I think the best you can say about Bulova's leather straps is that they're "durable". Many of the bracelets are quite nice however.

$434 for a Japanese [Citizen] quartz???….One born every day

    • Not infused with enough Swiss fairy dust?

      • -3

See above post from "incipient", expensive and nasty….

No idea why Citizen purchased this company..

  • Deciding between this watch and the Seiko Presage for $399 on Starbuy https://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-presage-automatic-steel-men…

Not really the same kind of watches. or band. Or size.
Look at the Seiko 5 (Starbuy) and the Orient mako/ray II (Amazon, but currently bit expensive) too.

One of my dream watch..if only i had the dough for it.

    • Revoke your OZB license, will get you there sooner.

      • LOL you have a point there 👍

  • Close to pulling the trigger on this several times, too big though at 44mm. Would be great if they'd release a reduced version.

I have one of these. It’s a nice watch if you’re after a chrono with a bit of a story behind it. I also have an Omega Speedy Pro, and you can wear this one in situations where you wouldn’t want a more expensive, more delicate, mechanical watch, so it’s not strictly an either/or.

A couple of things to keep in mind:

    • it’s big and it wears big. It has short, flat lugs, so beyond the aesthetics of you have a small wrist it may not be comfortable.

    • it’s only a 60 minute chrono. It’ll time 60 minutes and then stop. Depending on what, if anything, you want to time, this may be an issue.

I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and the battery is still going strong.

Bought their Curv Quartz a while back and received dead battery out of package, sent it back for exchange. Received replacement with dead battery, refunded.

Something to keep in mind, but hope this one does not have the same issue.

Build quality is okay for the price. But I'd save up more for a nice Hamilton automatic when they go on sale.

Good price. Purchased half a year ago for $510.
