  • Dangggg i should sell mine and rebuy later..

It was under $2k before Xmas last year when I bought mine but this is a good price currently.

  • Good price during covid. If you need now get it.

I got mine from Sony Australia eBay store for $2299 back in May this year. It was marked as "damaged box". They oversold it and sent me a new one - I did have to wait for a few weeks for it, which was fine. Worth checking the Sony eBay store from time to time.

I'd honestly wait for a better deal if you don't need it now. Still chilling with my a6500, would love to upgrade but maybe later.

Don't buy online from Digidirect, price match with Sony and buy from them directly. Most likely Digidirect don't have it in stock even though it shows in stock. They lie and cheat.

Yup I would recommend that too

  • Any chance price is going to go down in the near future? especially for secondhands

Great price for the a7iii then another $239874754378 for some nice G Master lenses :)

    • +1

Or buy Tamron lenses, better and affordable.

      • +4

I wouldn't say the Tamron lenses are better than the G Master lenses, but they are certainly more affordable.

        • Yes, they are better as well. Take a look at the 17-28mm F2.8, 28-70 and 70-180. They are as sharp and sharper than their G master equivalent for less alot less than G Master.

          • @nadan: Sharpness is not the only feature you wanted, trust me…

            • @RimofLeo: yes, I understand and Tamrons are either matching or doing better in other aspects too.

            • @RimofLeo: What else are you looking for in a lens? Artefacts, aberration etc?

                • @RimofLeo: Sorry, should have been clearer.

When you said sharpness isn't the only feature you want in a lens, what other features are you after?

                  • @wittyusername: I think bokeh can be another important indicator to evaluate a lens.
Some lenses even specially designed for better bokeh such as Nikon 150mm f2 DC or Nikon 135mm f2 DC, or Sony 100mm f2.8 STF.

              • +1

@wittyusername: Autofocus (speed/accuracy/noise) has traditionally been an area where third party lenses may be weaker. Tamron/Sigma/Tokina et al have to find a way for their lenses to communicate with the camera bodies of several manufacturers, and there’s no incentive for the body manufacturers to help. Not saying it’s necessarily a problem (not all OEM lenses are that great) but that’s what I’d want to check out, in addition to image quality (and all the other stuff to factor in: warranty, IS performance, weather sealing, weight, feel, filter compatibility and so forth).

    • Lol it do be like that ʘ‿ʘ

  • What are y'all taking photos of with your $2,000 cameras?

  • I read this really interesting article recently. As a avid SLR fan until 2018 there are no real surprises in the article but it's definitely confirmation of a once huge and innovative industry on the wane. The reality is that some smart phones can achieve a similar photo in most instances now. Arguably a smart phone can capture better photos because you have it with you and ready to shoot almost 100% of the time. That's why I got rid of my SLR. With the birth of baby no.1 it wasn't there when I needed it.

    • If you are just taking snapshot in good light with standard angle of view and you are not editing the photos substantially or printing them at large sizes then a phone is good enough. If scenarios involving low light, action, telephoto, shallow depth of field, significant editing or large prints, then a dedicated camera with a fast lens is much better.
There is also the fun factor - for me taking photos with a phone is just not at all as satisfying as with a nice dedicated camera. I only use it for snapshots when I don't have my camera on me.

      • Yep, you're 100% right. My decision to not use my camera has mainly been driven by the arrival of kids. Most of my photography is now of them rather than of places. With kids, having the camera to hand is more important than the quality of the camera most of the time.

I saw $2160 price on digidirect in March 2020. Because they generally run 20% off and the RRP then was $2700, so came down to $2160. Better to wait for some time for better price.

    • Thanks for that. Do they run 20% off on ebay store or website ?

      • on website

There's the Sony zv1 blogging camera

  • Great camera! Been using the Tamron 28-75mm & Tamron 17-28mm along with Sony 70-200mm f4 and works flawlessly! Just make sure you update the firmware on the Tamrons.

One thing I dislike though is how easy these Sony sensors attract dust and find out on the pc haha.

Will definitely have to clean yours more due to mirrorless.
