Nothing special with the price but I'll give you a plus for the effort you took to post a picture of your purchase.

Considering that hard drive prices went up recently, it's a pretty good deal.

  • any reason why HDD price went up?

    • +10

WD has most of their manufacturing in Bangkok which is under flood now…that;s the reason prices have gone up as the supplies are limited..

  • Myer has the MyBook Studio for $71.25 if the offer is still on. Ticketed at $95 but scans with 25% off. I guess someone strolling around a Myer store may be able to confirm?

edit: I should add that the MyBook studio is formatted for Mac but they come with instructions to format it to a file system PC can read
edit2: It's the one with an LCD screen

      Yeah
Because they totally saw it coming.

      yeah

we here in Aust dont build anything in the middle of brisbane and the whole queensland and nsw. the water that rushed everything a few months back was not called flood.

we also dont build anything in Vic. so bushfire never burnt down anything.

what an Aust Genius you are, snappy1234!

But we dig earth and sell it for a fortune.

    • What about MANAGEMENT of IT Distributors in this country who decide that all hard drives should go up by 90% overnight? MSY and others are all playing us for suckers, as they even put up prices on notebooks (as they do contain a hard drive). It's not like all the world's hard drive stock is going to disappear before WD either dry out the factory or relocate to Mexico or some place.

Gouged again by Synnex and other importers IMHO.

  • I bought one of these from OW about 2 years back for $130 when I desperately needed more storage space. I always under-invest in storage space because of the inevitable price drops which makes me sad. I'm tempted to buy a second one as I can share the USB and power cable from my drive and swap it over to the other when not in use which will reduce cable clutter and save space.

  • Anyways, if you guys are looking for a cheap hdd, check OW out, the last time I bought one it was $64, the shouldn't haven't changed as far as I know.

    $90 2TB OW today.

    • More details please…

3rd link or 4th if you count the ad.

        • its $98 for WD 2TB..anything cheaper?

        • No need to be a smart ass besides there is no $90 drive on OWs site at all let alone 2TB, there is a $98 WD 2TB (which i bought on wednesday at 4:50pm and had it delivered for free by within 24hours, which i thought was pretty good), but 98 is not 90.

I'm curious is it was kaichen19 being lazy and saying 90 instead of 98 or if there was an unadvertised price.

    what the hell????

Looking at MSY's prices today, they are 'selling' WD 2TB Green's for $149…. DOUBLE what they were last month!
I understand that stocks are low, but DOUBLE?

You watch…. they took a millisecond to raise the prices, and like banana's they will come down slowly over months. Bloody rort!

here's an interesting story to read: http://old.news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20111019/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_c…

"supply will be constrained throughout the rest of the year… pc suppliers (apple, dell, etc) are worried".

    hmmm…. not good.

What about MANAGEMENT of IT Distributors in this country who decide that all hard drives should go up by 90% + overnight? MSY and others are all playing us for suckers, as they even put up prices on notebooks (as they do contain a hard drive). It's not like all the world's hard drive stock is going to disappear before WD either dry out the factory or relocate to Mexico or some place. This panic pricing is NONSENSE.

Gouged again by Synnex and other importers/distributors IMHO. Regouged by the likes of MSY.

I'm pretty sure that there are laws against price gouging under these circumstances, and it would usually involve COLLUSION and PRICE MANIPULATION.

Off to the ACCC again with you.

Maybe Gerry Harvey could start up an online grey market importing hard drives; that'd teach em to fix prices.

  • Thanks for that! I asked my sister and dad to grab it from the Dick Smith. Got the last one in stock, not only that the girl gave us free extended 1 yr warranty "worth" $22. Happy with my $59 spent!

  • is this a good buy?
