    • Wow and I thought the $1299 was an exaggeration…

  • +1

This is a great value at this price. Don’t judge it by the specs, the image quality is great right from f2.8. Plus it’s so small I tend to use this most just because it’s easy to carry everywhere. Great match for Sony full frame cameras.

  • You can get a 35 sigma 1.4 for 800….

  • Went to checkout, Sold out. No C&C or delivery

  • This is my 'go to' lens on my A7RII. Superb compact quality, and at this price it's a steal.

  • Would this have fit a Sony A6500?

    • +2

      would recommend a sigma 30mm f1.4 for your a6500

    • Yes, but it would be a 52.5mm equivalent, meaning you will have a narrower field of view compared to full frame.

    • Yes, but the focal length would be increased by ~1.6 (35mm => 52.5mm). Can't go wrong and it's weather-sealed as well

  • Ted's camera is doing the same price as well

    • +1

Just got confirmation of price match with Ted's from Sony, less an extra $10. Could combine with Amex offer Spend $500 or more, get $50 back for a total of $539. Tempted..

      • Hi @kookykersbrook, can I ask how you went about getting this price match, please? I can't even find the lens on their website. Thanks.

      • How did you get the less $10

        • +1

Sony just offer it as part of the pricematch.

        • They just offered it
"I'm happy to confirm that your price match request has been accepted, and as a thank you for shopping with us, we will take a further $10 off on this."

          • @kookykersbrook: Through email?

            • @stickymoo: They responded via email after I put in a pricematch request on the product page.
Ended up buying it for $589, and Amex offer came through straight away so $539 all up. Quite a bit better than their insane asking price of $1499!

              • +1

@kookykersbrook: Just did the same thing. I didn't have a Sony account so they called me to create one and was done in less than 10 mins with the extra discount. Pretty happy as I was looking at buying this lens in Feb at around $800 and was going to use TRS before Covid ruined that plan.

  • 2.8 isn't terribly bright for a prime, and 35mm isn't terribly wide angle, to keep things straight.

on the other hand, this is a very good performer of a lens with amazing contrast and sharpness, I would totally recommend it if 35mm is your thing. It's great for all sorts of things.

bonus points to OP for the JB scraper!

  • Is this good for video

  • Amazon also selling at this price

  • probably because of 1.8 is out so 2.8 is going for cheaper price

  • +1

whats going on with the price hike wtf?

    • What does it normally sell for

      • Well i sold mine last year for 450, now secondhands going around for 700+

        • +1

So a new one for 550 isn't too bad

      • I bought this lens second hand for about $500. Sold it 2 years ago for about the same price. I think $600 was the RRP back then?

It used to be a choice between this or the very similar Samyang 35mm 2.8. $600 is a good deal, I suppose, for anyone looking. No one should be paying that ridiculous >$1000 RRP (the 35mm 1.8 or Loxia 35 are much better choices at that price).

  • Buy now think later

  • +1

LOL… since when this lens went up above $1K?

  • I have a samyang 35mm f1.4 . Should I buy this

    • Uhhh do you need to buy another lens with the same focal length? 1.4 to 2.8. I don't get it.

      • Weight.

And the f2.8 is much more discreet.

  • This deal is back on.

    • It never went away. It's just that it doesn't seem to be available anywhere, either in-store, for Click & Collect, or delivered.

      Where is it available?

      • +1

ah sorry didn't realise it says out of stock when you try to pay.

    • could i ask what you use to scrape? :)

  • The deal is back on. Only for delivery, though.

  • can you run your scraper again? last run on 26 of Aug

    • Yeah sure, I'll run it now. Give it ~10 mins.

EDIT: My Wifi Driver died :( Give me a sec to fix.

      • no worries, mate, much appreciated! so it's not an automated application, you have to run it manually?

        • +1

I did setup Github actions to automate it everyday, but for some reason it was super flakey. Not sure what's in the default container. Need to setup a custom docker container to ensure reliability.

P.S - Wifi Driver corrected. Just running it now. Should be done in ~5 mins.

    Hi OP,

This price scraper is phenomenal! Can you please explain a bit about how it works and what it was programmed in?

    • +1

      thank you! 😊

I built it with Puppeteer and NodeJS.

      • +1

Cheers - I've been thinking i should learn how to program for ages but without really having a goal or something, it's quite hard to get motivated!

        • +1

Just build something aligned with your hobby or something that you're interested in. You will learn a lot faster. Good luck! :)
