    • get the note20ultra and sell the s20plus.

Wouldn't this affect your credit rating? If not, amazing deal.

The Exynos commentary is a little misguided. Yeah it's not as good, and yeah it sucks they're charging the same - but the difference is about an hour less screen time and about 15% less gaming performance.

If you don't game, it really isn't an issue (if you can get around paying the same for an inferior chip)

Still a great phone. My biggest concern would be the image processing difference, but I've not seen any.

    • Any credit checks will affect your rating.

    • +5

Honestly, even if you did game you'd struggle to see any difference except maybe a little less battery life. Benchmark scores don't have a whole lot of meaning in every day use.

    • If you already have a telstra account I don't think there is a check. I signed up for the s20+ last week and I had a telstraccount. No credit check.

    • +1

      Heating issues?

  • Wow that is what I am looking for. Will try to get one from JB by end of today. Thank goodness I didn't pull the trigger on the S20+

  • +1

Called my local store in Melbourne, unable to get it.

  • Awesome deal! I have a note 10+ and am actually considering jumping on this

  • -1

only for port ins not new connections?

  • +3

It's about the right price for an Exynos.

Samsung is dodgey as hell giving the much better chipset to the main review countries.

    • -1

It's a little better, not "much". No need to be sensationalist about it.

      • +9

20% is more than a bit. But man would have shut my mouth and paid 949 for this everyday haha

        • -5

I haven't seen a difference of 20% confirmed anywhere. But even if there is a 20% difference in some benchmark score somewhere, there's no way you'd see a 20% difference in day to day use. You'd be lucky to even see a 5% difference in reality. As I said somewhere else, benchmark scores have very little relevance to every day use.

          • +3

@wombat81: Refresh rate in games and battery life is very noticeable day to day.

          • +1

@wombat81: I have the phone. The battery drain is atrocious. Drains quickly with minimal usage

            • @maverickjohn: Have you used the Snapdragon version to compare?

              • @wombat81: I have not. But I certainly hope it's better than this. Its one of the worst drainage of batteries in a phone and I've have the htc one x which was deemed really bad

      • +6

15% less performance, 20% less battery life, and takes worse photos.

        • That's why it is cheaper here.
I have purchased SD version of a Samsung phone before. It was more expensive than the Exynos version by quite a lot (because the sellers know people prefer SD version). Had to buy an original charger though (I don't believe in cheapo charger or converter).

Thing is, when Samsung AU offered the same phone at 40% off RRP, it was so enticing, I bought another one. Sure, the SD one is better, but I am actually happier with the Exynos one because it was actually half of what I paid for the SD version.

        • Where is the info about the bad photo's

          • @maverickjohn: I'd link you but you're better off goggling it because it's not just one result, there's heaps of articles and videos about it.

      • +1

It's not all about benchmarks anymore, Mrwhosetheboss goes through and shows the differences your average user would encounter:

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CUSe8kgIE8

In the beginning I was pretty excited about the Note 20 Ultra, but after I heard it had the same chip as S20 Ultra I knew it would be a pass for me. Will enjoy my Note 9 one more year at least :P

    • Samsung is dodgy in all aspects not just this area.

  • Is it easy to cancel the contract, can you do it online?

    • +1

Simply port out. Thats the easiest way to cancel.

  • Just called JB and they said it's wrong advertisement and they are not honouring it. It's supposed to be note only, not ultra :(

  • Confirmed with Jb Ballarat and Geelong, they don't have this promo on their system and $349 offer is for Note 20 5G.

  • +1

Just called my local JB, they said the note 20 ultra is 979 dollars outright and the standard note 20 is 349 dollars. They can’t do 349 for the ultra

    • +2

      It's not outright mate!!!

  • Different prices on their latest catalog JB catalog

  • +1

Looks like the ad online is gone.

  • +8

never hated living in victoria more, stage 4 was nothing in contrast to missing this deal.

      • -1

No, we've got a mismanaged quarantine program and a Government at fault

        • +2

You can tell yourself that as you contemplate breaking lockdown to get a deal on a new phone then blame someone else for numbers not coming down enough.

          • +1

            @[Deactivated]: I have a Note10+ and won't be upgrading this year.

            I adhere to DHHS directives.

As a healthcare professional I have a responsibility to encourage (but not admonish) others to adhere.

The only epidemic in Australia has been traced to this local quarantine program, and the numerous deficiencies are currently being investigated (https://www.quarantineinquiry.vic.gov.au/) with conclusions due in October.

What you believe matters. Unilaterally enforced civil restrictions have there place now, and need to be followed for the good of public health. The powers, the terms of their enforcement, and who has them and whether they can be debated in parliament, is continually being determined, and what you believe (what you support, and ultimately how you vote) is making a difference right now.

  • New telstra customers only, or porting in

  • Is there anyway to do this online? or over the phone?
    From Melbourne :(

  • +6

    Gone…. pricing error confirmed

  • +2

Looks like they removed that ads on their website for the Note 20 Ultra 4G and 5G, so this deal is unobtainable

  • What the!! No way!

  • -8

Deal has been pulled as above.

    • +10

      I don't think that's a reason to downvote, bro.

      • -7

Why not the deal is not an active or real deal?

        • -1

          You new here orr

          • +1

@Carrian: I really hope you're not expecting to go to JB and get this deal.

Hold back that inner Karen coz clearly this was an error and you've been informed it's an error prior to making the effort to go in.

  • Ad was pulled while I was asking the person at JB. They wouldn't honour the deal.

  • Unobtainalbe deal, online price error.

    • -1

      Are you new here

      • +2

        Why do you keep asking

    • If its content I can understand … some updated the content and published this accidentally.

For an ad banner to be published…
      1. the designer put the wrong price and sent it off
      2. the commerce author uploaded and added to the page and ask for approval.
      3. the manager approves and goes for a coffee.

      So neg should be acceptable.

      • -1

The number of negs I received is a joke haha keep spamming me.

  • +2

OK, price error with 91 upvotes.

    • +4

Reckon the majority of upvotes flooded in before it was confirmed as a price error. I know because I've been keeping a close eye on it as soon as it showed up.

      • +2

I know, but if it's too good to be true, it prob is, even before it's confirmed to be a price error.

    • +1

      People still up voting….

      Lol

  • Well that sucks. Damn this would of been a no brainier. Anyone got this deal, any JB going to honor this

    • +1

      You have to be:-

      1.) Really super quick
2.) Get on the sales person quick
      3.) No queues
4.) Telstra system 101% running fine

Then your chances would be high to obtain this deal.

      • +3

No I don’t think anyone can get this deal. it’s not on their system. It’s just a wrong advertisement

  • +17

If you are not based in Melbourne (under lockdown) anyone including those in regional VIC can walk into JB and get this deal.
Should you already be a Telstra customer (or using a MVNO like Belong, Boost) but you don't want to go through the whole hassle of porting in and out. Just request a new number (this won't affect your existing Telstra number) for this deal.

JB staff will then add this new mobile number to your existing Telstra account.
The reason why you will get the deal is because this is a new plan and JB staff are only adding this to your existing account (hence considered 'new customer').

If you planning on doing the Early Termination Charge (ETC) the amount will be
    * $99 x 12 months (plan length) / 2 = $594
    * This does not take into consideration the JB -$10 monthly credit (which is applied for new customers)

Total cost of phone "outright" :
    * $349 (upfront cost of phone) + $594 (ETC) = $943

Only a few weeks ago I got the new S20+ deal which was advertised at $199 and it was simple enough to sign up and payout the contract.

You will though need to download the Telstra App "My Telstra" (must be the latest version) not the previous 24x7 app and then message them through Chat to cancel your contract. I would advise that you give it 1x full day (from when you signed up) just to ensure the system has correctly provisioned the service and can then (when you decide to cancel) able to do this.

Process took not more than 30mins via the chat (depends on how quickly and amount of people in the queue). The Telstra agent will ask you about why do you want to terminate and just keep it simple and brief. If you already have an existing (primary) number make sure they CANCEL the right number! Be very specific about the mobile number and also the plan to ensure they don't make a mistake.

Once completed by the Telstra agent on chat they will send you an email confirming the service cancellation. A few days later you will receive a few more emails indicating what the final charges will be.

    Final Note:
    * JB staff get a commision from each sign up they do so don't go into the store telling them that you plan to do such as breaking out of the contract ASAP because they may refuse to let you sign up. Do the usual polite talk but your not obligated to tell them why you want a new service or what you plan to do with the service.

    Credit Checks:
    * JB Staff as part of Telstra's requirements will be to do a credit check on you (this is unavoidable)
    * So if you frequently do this sign up to new JB deals and then decide to ETC regularly your credit rating will take huge hits. The more credit check that are done your score gets hit.
    * Paying out the ETC does not negatively affect your credit rating score unless you decide to not pay the ETC charge (no different from defaulting on any debt).

    • +1

      It was a price error.

    • +12

I guess while you were writing this the deal was removed. Thanks for the effort.

    • Was going to delete the comment but you replied.
Guess it was too good to be true :)

      • +2

Still keep the comment handy , can be used with other jb deals

      • Maybe this could be stickied in the forums for future JB deals?

    • Thanks … pasting it in my Evernote now.

    • This is super helpful, thank you.

  • Ok, so the note20 would be $199 + $549 termination fee. That's still a good deal right?

    • The early termination fee is $594, not $549. But still a good deal. Considering that spec of Note 20 4G is similar to s20+. But the Note 20 has 256GB but S20+ has 128GB.

  • Hahahaha…. The question is did anyone manage to snag one?
I am not paying them to keep my money as working capital for few days before they refund while adding the complications of a plan and credit checks.

    • Thinking no one would have gotten one because the mistake was online only and it was taken offline quite quickly. Reckon the phone calls must have been flowing in fast.

  • Online deal has been updated. It is note 20 5g and not the Ultra.

  • +3

Refused at Broadway. He said if I was in store when it was online they'd have to honour it but not anymore..

    False adversiting

    • +4

I doubt it. I was instore while the ad was up and they would not honour it. They kept referring to their pricing guide which has the correct price.

  • +1

$1099 upfront + 12 months $99 contract as confirmed in Westfield Sydney JB.

  • I really need to get off Boost and transfer back in on a deal like this.

    • why?

    • Id be interested to know too??

      • Boost counts as a pre-existing Telstra Customer :(

        • but it is very cheap though , right ?

          • @megaalc: …but it's a Telstra service and there is no way of slipping into a Telstra deal as a new customer.

        • +1

Yes, but Im wondering why you would want to go from Boost to Telstra?
Arent they exact same service, only cheaper?

          • @chalks1971: Because you don't get deals on new phones like this.

            • @gasman70: If you do the math, paying out the whole price of the Telstra contract is not as good as a deal.

I'm on the 12 month Boost 80gb+40gb bonus data for $135 deal.

I signed up for the S20+ for $199 upfront +$594 ETC, got a new Telstra number and never used it. Using my old Boost SIM in the phone as JB only sell unlocked phones.

So, $928 for an S20+ and 1 years network access.

Miles better than $1387 ($199 + $1188) for "transferring" to Telstra and getting the same phone.

              • @So lo: that's how it should be ) thanks

  • Make me thinking this is actually their marketing tactic, changed back right in time.

    • +1

Exactly right. They tried to get me to pay 1099 upfront.

      Bait and switch….

  • What does "instore only" mean for Victorians? When the stores are closed!! Can you "click and collect"?
BTW cracker of a deal if you're on another network, and you're not on a contract and you just happen to want a Samsung Note20 Ultra 5G 256GB.
Finally, 150GB with unlimited capped speed, this would be ideal for people living alone or in a share house without internet as you could use your phone data through hotspot and therefore not need a home phone and home internet.

  • Went in just after 12pm and pricing error was fixed it seems

  • JBHIFI Albury don't see it and won't do this deal…

  • +3

Why is this still on the front page?

    • a slow day

  • +5

Just got this honoured in a store in Sydney. They realised they had messed up after doing the paperwork and porting the number.
