  • So you have to first purchase the prepaid card and then register. If the card is subject to Amex surchages then I might just stick to my 28 degrees card.

    • I dont think they have the same FX rates….

      • Might be worth looking at the fluctuating Aussie Dollar and then purchasing a US travel card.

  • $50 bonus for $1000 purchase = 5% cash rebate.

just quick check at austpost office website for A$ 1k we can get US$ 1035.50 (http://auspost.com.au/apps/currency-converter.html)
at this point of time, the interbank exchange rate for aud/usd = 1.0550 - mean every A$1k you should get USD$1055, so the different around $19.5

if we get this A$50 bonus, then for A$950 you get US$1035.5, which mean the exchange rate that you get is 1.09 which is well above the current interbank exchange rate. which is VERY GOOD for my standard, also mean you make instant profit 3.5 cent for every australian dollar that you convert to USD

    • What surchages does it have?

        Initial Load Fee
Payable on the initial purchase and load of
        the American Express GlobalTravel Card.
Up to AUD $15 (incl. of GST)

        Reload Fee
Payable each time funds are reloaded onto
        the American Express GlobalTravel Card.
For example if you load a foreign currency
in the amount equivalent of AUD $2,500
onto your Card, the reload fee will be the
lesser of 1% of the reload amount (AUD
$25) and AUD $10. Therefore, in this case,
the reload fee will be AUD $10 and the
Australian dollar equivalent of your net
        reload will be AUD $2,490.
Up to 1% of the reload amount
or AUD $10 (incl. of GST), whichever
        is the lower amount

        ATM Withdrawal Fee
Payable each time an ATM withdrawal
is made. Some ATM owners may charge
        an additional fee when the
        American Express GlobalTravel Card
is used. This fee is determined and charged
by the ATM owner and is not retained
        by us.
        USD $2.00 GBP £1.25 EUR €2.20

        • I went to Australia Post today and the Global Travel Card brochure said that if you load or reload at Australia Post there will be no fees.

        • the term and condition said only reload via bpay is eligible

  • Can the American Express GlobalTravel Card be used at Amazon online shopping?

    • Yes, I use mine for Amazon and Netflix. Just make up a US billing address if any site asks you for it. The AMEX call centre lady suggested using AMEX's headquarters address as billing. That worked when buying airline tickets. Also the 'name' on the card is actually 'American Express Traveler', so some sites (eg Amtrak, hotels) require that instead of your name.

  • Quick question for any recent travellers out there, I'm heading to India early next week for a holiday. With regards to these travel type cards, does anyone recommend any particular bank/company?

  • Also remember that you can be in the draw to win $20,000 as per Australia Post's current promotion.
