Do these come with the LTE module?

    • +1

Also very interested depending on this. Using a G1 X1 Yoga and bloody love it.

      • +1

Using a g3 x1 yoga with hdr screen. Loving it. Had to spend extra money to get the wwan card and antenna. Why lenovo did not include the antenna on these knowing you will have to dismantle the screen and motherboard to run the antenna cable is beyond me.

    • Also keen if it comes with the LTE modem

      • Might be able to install it yourself after.

        • Sounds like effort haha

          • @janoski: not as bad as the x1 yoga gen 3.

You practically need to dismantle the gen 3. Both screen and motherboard.

The gen 4 one just the bottom cover.

            See video below

            https://youtu.be/VNAfMdT1cTU

            • @xoom: So would this model being sold have the antenna wires already there? I just need to slot in a card?

              • @fd9: unlikely. The upside is in gen 4 installing wwan and its respective antenna dont involved dismantling the whole laptop.

You only have to pop off the bottom cover.

                • @xoom: Thanks @xoom :)

    • No LTE on this model #20QFS00K00

      • Sadness…

highly tempting but soldered 8gb ram is a deal breaker. so close!

    • +3

yeah soldered ram means you have to get 16GB ram from the get go.

      • The Thinkpad E14 has 8GB soldered + an expansion slot.

        • That would have been the ideal solution but the x1 yoga there is no additional ram slots.

  • +4

Nice price, yesteryear's specs - Intel 8th gen and soldered 8GB RAM.

  • +1

    Too less RAM, cannot upgrade!

  • The biggest catch on this laptop is the RAM. You can upgrade the NVME SSD to 1TB easy. You can even get the opal2 enabled nvme ssd from ebay.

The WWAN though a pita to do is still doable.

  • Seems like predominantly negative comments so far, even though this looks like a damn good discount.
What alternatives would people go for at the same price point??

    • +4

Cannot list alternatives off the top of my head but your looking at paying 1.5k for a 2 gen old (u series) cpu, 8gb soldered ram and a 256gb ssd. Its a terrible 'deal' unless you really want a x1 for the build quality. A quick poke on jbhi has this but im sure others can list better alternatives.

      Dell inspo (14inch)
      4700u cpu (8c/8t)
      16gb ram
      512mb ssd

      • Now I see the problems. Thanks!

Its a terrible 'deal' unless you really want a x1 for the build quality.

The main reasons why anyone would consider a ThinkPad is the build quality and driver quality and support. That's why it's a good deal.
If you don't need that, then there's no need to consider ThinkPads at all - there are cheaper laptops with better specs around.

It's like saying a half-price Bosch Blue drill is a 'terrible deal' because you can buy an Ozito for 1/3rd of the price. Deals have to be based on market segments.

        • Thinkpads are business grade laptops. Not really fair to compare them to consumer grade laptops just on spec alone.

      • +3

Specs aren't everything. 8GB Ram is a downer but,

A quick poke on jbhi has this but im sure others can list better alternatives

You can't really compare this to anything JB sells since they don't sell any commercial/business laptops.

        1.5k for a 2 gen old (u series) cpu

Intel didn't release 9th Gen U series CPUs, so it's only a generation behind in U Series CPUs.

        Dell inspo (14inch)

Dell Inspiron models are low/medium end consumer laptops and Thinkpad X1 models are premium business laptops.

        • lol must be some owners here. Read the comment and question, the chap didn't mention anything about needing a business grade laptop, they mentioned it looked like a good discount and what alternatives for the same price point which i provided.

          • +2

@ashoz85: You said the ThinkPad is a terrible deal, then proceeded to compare it to a consumer-grade laptop. We are just pointing out to you that it is silly to call it a terrible deal because the two laptops are aimed at different markets.

            • @eug: Yes different markets but just because they asked about alternatives doesn't mean they even know this laptop is a business grade machine. Not everyone is a laptop expert, so I interpreted the question as I don't really know so what else can I get for the money. Horses for courses, I won't post opinion next time as apparently it's wrong

You should post your opinion, but you should also be able to take feedback about it.

  • I'm looking at this for my daughter for Year 10 next year. She wants a 2-in-1 with a pen and as long as it can handle the Google suite of apps and Adobe suite of products ok, will 8GB RAM be ok? I would have preferred 16.

Also, does this come with the ThinkPad Pen Pro (Garaged) ?

    • I would not send a kid to school with a machine worth this much unless you can get zero excess replacement insurance for it.

      • And yet some parents send their kids to school with ipad pro which is less resilient than this lappy.

    • I'm pretty certain this will be ok. My kids are using X1 Carbon gen 3 (i5, 8Gb RAM) and it can handle the school stuff ok.

    • Plenty of 2-in-1's under A$1000. And prettier too! XD

Waiting for hp envy 15 deal.

  • no 1660ti :(

  • Is this gen 4 or gen 3?
Under overview, it is showing "ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen 20LD001YAU"
while under Brand & Model, it is "Brand New Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 20QFS00K00"

    • This is gen 4 as the CPU is gen 4 as is the WLAN card and Bluetooth version. Only Intel 8265 11ac, 2x2 + BT4.2 for gen 3.

The i7 CPU for gen 3 is either 8650u and 8550u.

And the wwan module for gen 3 is l850-gl. For gen 4 it is l860-gl.

Oh and the pic in the website is gen4. The cpu exhaust/vent is on the right. Gen3 has it in the back.

You also can't have ir camera and wwan together in gen 3 while you can on gen 4.
