    Are these safe for cooking?

    • Sure are jv. Use them quite regularly with my Weber kettle.

I usually buy the samba or coconut shell charcoal which are chemical free but rarely on special.

      • I bought some Samba ones when they were on sale a few months back however I found that when using the snake method in my Weber they didn't seem to last as long as these or heat beads. Fantastic for quick direct cooking though

It's usually not safe to cook these and they will taste pretty bad. Best to use them to grill some meat.

  • Can't see them when logged in :(

    • That's odd, definitely there for me as I ordered some for pick up

  • Better than Heat Beads? Any idea what they're made from?

These are made in South Africa. Heat Beads are made in Aus. #buylocal.

    • That being said, the Saffers definitely know what they are doing when it comes to grilling.

I'd say about on par with heat beads. The heat beads ones are good becuase you can get them in 7.5kg and 10kg bags and are of course manufactured locally in Australia.
But at $4.50 a bag you can't go wrong with these.
In regards to what they're made of it just says natural wood on their website which doesn't provide much information.

Used to use these but the odor/chemical-ly smell from the smoke was a bit off putting

Now use this charcoal and haven't looked back

I use to do these deals. Now I have a charcoal supplier and he does 20kg bags of gidgee or Mallee root for $30.

Heaps better value as one piece of charcoal can burn for 4-6hours. It's extremely chunky!

Hi Como64 where do you buy chunky charcoal?
      Thanks in advance
