  • Can anyone tell me if its good for cat furr on wooden floors ? Or does it clog it up?

    • +1

They fill up, and brush roller needs untangling every one or two cleans, More so if you have a dog or long hair. There is maintenance and room preparation between every clean, but that effort is much less then cleaning the whole house with a regular vacuum. Does a good job in my opinion.

Does anyone know how the Dreame F9 compares to the Roborock S5 Max? The features seem to be the same. Or even the deebot 900?

      • Another different is that dreame f9 support 1 map at this moment, roborock s5 max support 3 maps.

        • which one is best suited for house with all rooms with medium carpet ?

        • That's the 1st Gen though, not the s50 max.

      • I found the Xiaomi 2nd Gen went over larger bits on teh floor not picking them up.

Is Xiaomi Dreame F9 muchbetter at picking up larger bits?

        • 2500pa suction would help, carpet section performance is good by Dreame f9.

          • @Gearbite: ordered 1st gen. its for bedroom & living room carpets - hope 1st gen would do the trick.

            • @tintin7: How is it? I only have floor boards so not concerned about carpet areas

  • I bought the S5 max recently. It's great but I think I made a mistake cause these are seem to be half the price and even have a bigger bin.

  • Tell us the Facebook page coupon son!

  • Ordered gen 1 let's see. Was thinking about f9 but not 100% sure about mopping capability

    • How is it? Im still considering ordering gen 1

Thanks OP - took a punt on the F9 as our first robot vac.

    • did you get it? do you like it?

      • Not yet… arriving today apparently.

        • Please leave your feedback once tested. Keen to order one soon. It may be after your feedback. :0

          • +3

@niroshbest: Happy with it so far, but this is our first robot vac so we didn't have any expectations.

Out of the box, it did about 26 min last night before the battery went flat. It charged overnight and we set it off this morning. It cleaned 82 m2 in 81min at full suction power (there are 4 levels of suction power to select) and it went back to charge. It vacuums the carpets and floors quite well. Once it's charged, it should go out and complete the rest of the house today. The smart mapping option says it needs to complete several cleanups before creating the smart map.

I haven't played with the mop function yet.

Here are some screenshots of the Mi Home app

Let me know if you want to know anything else.

            • +1

@ShortyX: Keen to hear your feedback on the mopping function. Can you set it to mop certain areas only? We have laminate floors And carpet so I’d like to Mop the laminate floor area only.

              • +2

@FrugalDealHunter: Similar to us - we have vinyl planks and carpet. I'm assuming we'll be able to set rooms and zones for mopping only once the smart map has finished building (apparently after several 'cleanups'). I haven't attached the mop module yet (tank and cloth) - it comes separately in the box.

            • @ShortyX: Thanks for the great feedback.

              just a few questions

Does it have a function to schedule cleaning for a particular space? eg: kitchen every day 7pm + dining every day at 9pm etc.

Of so with the full suction power, it only lasts 81 mins. I thought it's more than that assuming the total run time is closer to 2 and a half hrs, good to know.

Did you notice it slows down when there is an obstacle or doest it bangs its head and decides where to go?

              thanks :)

              • +1

@niroshbest: There is a 'Scheduled cleanup' option and it shows 'Starting time', 'Repeat', 'Cleanup mode' (option of silent, standard, strong, turbo), and 'Water level setting' (option of low, medium, high). On the main screen, if I tap 'Room' or 'Zone', it says 'After creating a smart map, you can use the selected rooms cleanup function'. I'm assuming once the smart map has finished building, schedules for particular rooms or zones can be created. You can also set DND (do not disturb) times.

At the front of it, it has a spring loaded arc (that looks like it has IR sensor bar around the centre of it) and it gets pushed in when it bumps into something. It is then able to navigate itself around and continue on.

Also, I had initially put the charging station under a couch but just realised we'll need to get to it to empty the bin (which was quite full after this morning). I've moved the charging station and it seems to have cleared the map in the app. I'll let it run through the week so the smart map can be built.

                • @ShortyX: great, thanks for this, please let us know if you have that function that cleans rooms as wanted once the smart map is created.

I am thinking to return Deedot 900 I bought from Aldi, this has a google and Alex voice command, but it only supports 'clean', 'stop', 'return' command only. I would like to see, 'clean room A' or similar function, so Voice command is not a huge thing at the moment.

With deedot it has laser mapping so the map was created in the first go, but I prefer a bigger battery and bin with F9.

Thanks for your feedback on this here in OZB community.

                • @ShortyX: Hi, is there any update?
Did you manage to map the whole house? how about the zone cleaning? Is it available? Thanks

                  • +1

                    @niroshbest:

Did you manage to map the whole house?

Not yet. It seems like it needs more than 2 full cleanups to create the smart map (1 full cleanup marked the smart map as 45% complete). It completed one on Tuesday and it would have completed another full clean up yesterday but while I was out, it sucked up a shoelace and paused. My daughter took it out but instead of hitting the power button to resume the cleaning, she took it back to the charging station. It couldn't reposition itself so the cleanup didn't finish. It is running another full cleanup now (it is on level 2 suction and still running after 2 hours and 20 mins).

EDIT: And I stuffed it again, lol. When it returned for charging (after nearly completing the full cleanup), I emptied the bin and turned it upside down to remove the roller. When I returned it to the charging station, it marked the cleanup as complete for some reason (the smart map still shows 45%). I started another cleanup and it went for a little bit (battery was nearly dead anyway) before returning to the charging station. It now says it will resume once the battery has been charged to 80% (there is a setting called 'Resume cleanup' under Device settings for this - otherwise, it will wait until fully charged before resuming). Anyway, I've now learnt to wait until the cleanup is fully completed before emptying the bin AND cleaning the roller.

                    • +2

@ShortyX: I've managed to get it to complete a map FINALLY!
And boy it is glorious. I sent it out to clean a section of the floor before
I baby sat it yesterday for about 3 hours to make sure it didn't suck anything up because it'd already had a few goes and had always gotten stuck under a couch or sucked up something. Now I'm very happy I have the map.

By the way I removed the bin yesterday by pausing it, opening the flap, taking it out, then putting it back in and it resumed with no dramas

                      • @Alialh: Oh great. That's a good sign.
How did you play with the map. Are you able to create virtual boundaries eg. Boxes and rotate if needed, lets say you have a sofa on 30 degree angle (brideye view).

Also zone cleaning function, that's the main feature I would want. Keep us posted

Sorry for asking so many questions but you review really help us. :)

                        • +1

@niroshbest: I did a zone clean today of the front entrance (2m by 2m) and it went there! I was so pleased after struggling with it for a few days.
That being said whilst it did a decent job cleaning it it isn't a 1 pass game. It needs a few goes, but I think if you were to have it going every day then that'd be enough to keep a lid on 90% of vaccuming requirements

Virtual boundaries are supposedly possible but I haven't been game enough to try it yet. Just at work now so I'll tinker with it a bit later

                          • @Alialh:

                            It needs a few goes

Different for me… I find that even level 1 suction is quite good. What setting do you use?

                          • @Alialh: Since you have the map completed, do you think you can setup zone cleaning? Not just an area, I want to know whether app is capable of scheduling cleaning jobs based on zone/room.

                            • @niroshbest: The smart map has completed but I can’t find the option to schedule zone cleaning. Anyone know how the mopping works? Do I have to set the mopping area so it doesn’t mop carpet? Also, some rooms/zones have been joined when there is a wall clearly there so that is a bit disappointing.

Rep, do you know if the firmware will resolve these issues?

                      • @Alialh: Thanks. We cleared out everything from under couches, beds, etc. I've very impressed how it can navigate around (still a novelty for us) and the bin is full when it returns. It has helped us keep the house free of clutter so it can get around easily.

By the way I removed the bin yesterday by pausing it, opening the flap, taking it out, then putting it back in and it resumed with no dramas

Yep, will only do that in the future. I'll wait until it has completed the full cleanup before cleaning the roller.

                    • +1

@ShortyX: Just an update. A third complete cleanup finished today and the smart map shows 66% complete. After 1st it was 45% and after second it was 54%.

I'm assuming this is the slower mapping disadvantage for VSLAM compared to LASER. Not a deal breaker though.

                      • +2

@ShortyX: Will have a big Firmware update in Oct and performance will be even better.

                        • @Gearbite: 👍🏻 Thanks for the heads up.

                        • @Gearbite: F9 completed another cleanup today and smart map is now 85%. Hopefully only one more and it will be completed.

                        • @Gearbite: Do you know if the firmware will allow room/zone scheduled cleanups? And do you know if I install the mop module and fill it with water, will it mop carpet without specifying a zone/room?

                          • @ShortyX: Will check for that. You can set no mop zone in your app, my firmware have no mop zone.

                            • @Gearbite: Where is that setting?

                              • @ShortyX: Under map management/virtual wall/restricted area/Mopping No-Go Zone.Here

                                • @Gearbite: Hmm, I don’t have option. I only have virtual wall and restricted area. Maybe I need to connect the mop module to the vac? I’ll try that.

                                  • @ShortyX: You may need to wait Oct update. My version is test firmware version.

                                    • @Gearbite: Gotcha. Thanks for your help.

                                    • @Gearbite: Actually, if I put water in the mop module, will it wet the carpets without setting the no mop zone!?

Edit: never mind, looks like it does according to the manual.

                                      • +1

@ShortyX: My bad boy arrived today, it's still charging.
Hopefully, we will get the room/zone scheduled cleanups function in Oct. @Gearbite do you see that option in your beta version?

                            • @Gearbite: Do you see the room/zone scheduled cleanups option in your beta version?

                              • @niroshbest: No, will ask dreame team regarding this.

                                • @Gearbite: Also, I just ran the 1st cleanup cycle, but my smart map says 0%, when it's going get updated?

                                  • @niroshbest: Did a green dot show in the cleaning history to show it was a full cleanup?

                                    • @ShortyX: Yes, I can see the green dot, But it still shows 0% smart map. :)

                                      • @niroshbest: Strange. Maybe close the app completely and reopen it? If no luck, perhaps keep doing full cleanups and see what happens?

                                        • @ShortyX: Yeah, I'll run it tomorrow. Let's see. Thanks for the advice. :) Is there a special option to run the first clean up?

                                        • +1

@ShortyX: I ran another cleanup cycle, and here comes another problem, it says 'actual cleanup area doesn't match the map". So the recommendation is to reset the map and run a new cycle.

So, people who are thinking to buy this, I think you should wait a few more days for my review.

I think the biggest disadvantage compare to laser mapping is, vslam acts like a blind person trying to find the boundaries by hitting the edges, but I think laser mapping is very smart and they can map the whole area 3-4m ahead.

I'm about to dislike the vacuum. :( and I am starting to regret returning Deebot 900.

But I'll give another go or 2.

                                • @Gearbite: What's the best place to get support for Dream F9?

                                  • @niroshbest: Please contact us by facebook messenger.

                                    • @Gearbite: Do you know if the zone issue will be fixed? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9306965/redir

It seems to clump many different rooms together as one zone.

                                      • +1

@ShortyX: Yes, will fix. They will realease once finish testing. Will add manual assign room as well.

                                        • @Gearbite: Another issue. I haven't used the F9 since Friday (9th Oct). Today (13th Oct) I started a full cleanup by pressing the power button on the vac and it said "the robot is starting a full cleanup." I checked the app and noticed that the smart map wasn't showing and it is at 0%! Does pressing the power button on the vac wipe the smart map? I'm pretty sure it hasn't been an issue before when I pressed it.

Hopefully the next firmware update will resolve all these niggles.

                                  • @niroshbest: Thanks for your review. I was about to pull the trigger but now I’m second guessing Vslam. I want the mop function but the first gen xiaomi seems proven and a safer choice. Are you thinking of returning it?

                                    • +1

@FrugalDealHunter: Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed with my unit and it's acting bit wired.

                                      Few issues:
                                      - Mapping is not very accurate https://imgur.com/a/7OzQh8J
                                      - Couldn't assign my zoning and it thinks my whole floor as a single-zone - https://imgur.com/a/EcJ8u0G
zone mapping issue is not acceptable and this was one of the selling points.

Compared to the laser guide, this needs more light. It reminds my little one who waits without entering rooms until I turn on lights. This actually happened and I had to turn on some lights to clean the study area.

I already had Deebot 900(laser) from Aldi and I returned it to buy this. But now I can see that the laser guide actually helps more accurate and smarter mapping, and took less time to finish the job. But this has more advantages as F9 has a bigger battery and better suction power. The main problem with my Deebot 900 was the height, and the laser guide needs that extra height to shoot laser and it gets stuck under my sofas + battery life.

One thing we need to understand is we're not buying the top-end model so we have to give up some of the fancy options.

I will still keep this as it can clean the whole house in one go, whereas Deebot couldn't do it before the battery ran out and this will also go under most of my furniture.

I will wait until the next firmware update and if this doesn't fix, I will definitely return this. we get 3 months to return.

Gearbite team is a great team and I'm sure that they will help me too fix these issues or help me return this without any issues.

                                          https://imgur.com/a/RfXW9DT

Couldn't assign my zoning and it thinks my whole floor as a single-zone
Agree with this. Mine is the same. - do you have a solution for this zoning issue?

Thanks. I have issues where the map has joined two rooms together in some parts when a wall should be there.

do you have a solution for this zoning issue?

                                            I've asked the rep. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/9309295/redir

                                            • @ShortyX: Will add manual assign room later.

                                              • @Gearbite: Do you have any date for the official release of the new firmware? We really need it. :)

                                                • @niroshbest: I do not have a exactly date, i will push them as this is a big update. I will update here once have any information.

                                                  • @Gearbite: @Gearbrite, does the Dreame F9 support multi-floored homes? Or does the map reset whenever the vacuum is moved between floors (the charging station will not be unplugged).

If not, do you know if future software updates will provide the option for multiple maps to be saved at once?

            • @ShortyX: have you been able to figure out how to create a smart map?
I've been running it multiple times a day, but haven't been able to get a full run of the entire house successfully because it gets tangled/stuck.
I've done like 13 times and almost 10 hours of run time…

there are a few maps that have almost the entire house, so I'm not sure why it can't just stitch the maps that its collected.

Let me know if someone can figure out a way to create the map so that I can start using some of the other features, i.e. virtual walls, rooms etc.

              • +2

@SeVeN11: It needs to complete several full cleanups (shown as green dots in the history) before it can finish the smart map. Where does it get tangled or stuck? If it needs to charge during the full clean up, enable the ‘resume cleanup’ under device settings and it will charge to 80% before finishing.

                • @ShortyX: Thanks. I think my house is too big to complete a full clean successfully.

It's done at least 3 X 150-180min cleans but 'breaks' on those or had to recharge which subsequently 'breaks'.

I wonder if I can section off part of the house so that it can complete a cycle and start mapping… I guess I'll try that next.

                  • +2

@SeVeN11: Mine doesn't complete the full clean up in one go either. It goes for about 2.5 hours on suction level 2 before going back to charge. Once it hits 80%, it goes out again and does about another hour to finish it. It then goes back to charge once it's done and reports that a full cleanup has been completed.

You could try putting it on suction level 1 to save power and see if it completes in one pass, but if it needs two passes, just leave it when it goes back to charge mid clean up.

                    • @ShortyX: @ShortyX and @niroshbest - I've been keeping a track on these comments for nearly two weeks now on whether or not to pull the trigger. Based on your experience so far, would you recommend purchasing the unit or are you looking to ultimately return the unit? I currently live in a relatively small 3BR one-story home with hardwood/tiled flooring and I think it could be okay but $400+ is quite an investment. Would appreciate your thoughts on this!

                      • +1

@hullohullo: Overall, I would recommend buying and we won't be returning it. The slower mapping is a little frustrating but it has advantages such as a slightly lower height profile (vs a laser module on top), larger bin size, good battery life, good suction power, upcoming firmware updates, and relatively good pricing.

We can't rely on the mopping function alone though. It is more of a wipe over and the floors will still need a good manual mop every couple of weeks.

                        • @ShortyX: You've sold me on it! Thanks @Shortyx, really appreciate the response!

                        • @ShortyX: @ShortyX, do you have any idea how the vacuum works in a multi-storey home? Do you know if the map will get reset if the vacuum is moved between floors?

                          • +1

@WillIForgetThis: support 1 map at this moment, no sure if they will support multi-map. will update once find out.

                            • @Gearbite: Thanks! I think being able to save at least two maps would be great. Hopefully this could happen with some software updates.

                        • @ShortyX: New firmware Update will push early Oct and should be able to download around Mid-Oct.

                          • @Gearbite: Rep - one issue that I have been having is when I need to pause it. Sometimes it picks up something like a bobby pin (I can hear it in the roller and needs to be removed) but when I return it to where I paused it, it says "The cleanup will resume… positioning, please wait" and it moves in a triangle. It then says "Positioning failed… the map is not working correctly. The robot will start a new clean up" and it begins a new cleanup. The app doesn't show the map and it shows the movement like it's starting a cleanup without any map. From here, if I tell it to go back to the dock, it tries a few movements then says "Please move the robot to the dock to charge."

I've had it position itself successfully once after a pause, but the other few times I have needed to pause it, it has failed to continue the cleanup. Any ideas?

                            • @ShortyX: Firmware Update will improve the successful rate, if it fail, it will continue to clean without map first, once machine find the position, map will active again.

                          • @Gearbite:

New firmware Update will push early Oct and should be able to download around Mid-Oct.

Hi, any news on when the firmware update will be available?

                            • +1

@Akya: It is a quite big update and it Was been delay, they schedule to Nov, will update here once have any information

                              • @Gearbite: Hi rep, any update on the firmware?

                                • @clartan2015: Dreame told me they will submit update today to mi home and will available to update around later Nov. Sorry for any delay.

                      • +1

@hullohullo: Sorry went a little off the track.

I would return this if the room selection function is not there with the new firmware update which will be coming in OCT.

I am facing a few issues at the moment.

                        — Few times, App didn't load the map, due to some time zone syncing issue.
                        — The whole area is picked as one zone. Because of that, I cannot select any particular area as it only allows rectangle/square selections, so — If you have an 'L' shape kitchen, you cannot select that area without overlapping to another area.

Few options I would like to see/missing with the current version

                        — Schedule zone cleaning - to clean the kitchen every day at 9 pm + theater room every 2 days + study room every day at 5 pm, etc.
                        — Scheduling cleaning with deferent succession levels based on the zone/floor
                        — Enables and disable Moppin based on the area. If you have a carpet area in the middle of the floor plan I should have an option to ignore mopping in that area. (I haven't seen this option)

                        • @niroshbest: Thanks for the response @niroshbest! I'm a bit hesitant on my order now, but I'll be on the lookout with the new firmware update and hopefully it resolves the issues you mentioned - my kitchen is definitely is quite uniquely shaped so it's a bit worrying. I think the options you mentioned would be a good add-on! Hopefully we see that in the updated firmware.

                        • +1

@niroshbest: I think manual zone/room assignment & no mop zones is coming in the next update. Hopefully the scheduled zone cleaning comes later.

@ShortyX: Yeah, really need the firmware update.
My vacuum app getting a few issues. Map doesn't load sometimes and this happened a few times too.

@niroshbest: I've had that angle issue once. I think the issue is that it slightly moves on an angle when it returns to the dock and when it starts again, it thinks it is square on but actually isn't. I've ensured the dock is secure and doesn't move when it returns. That said, it should be smart enough to detect the angle it is on when it starts? Anyway, I'm still content with it overall.

                              • @ShortyX: Any feedback from F9, I'm still struggling with the map alignment. I'll be returning this soon.

                                • +1

@niroshbest: I haven't had the map alignment issue recur, but I've had the smart map delete completely on me and need to rebuild it. Rep said firmware would resolve it along with the other issues, and I've just sent a PM to the rep to ask when it will be released.

I'm a bit torn - the D9 (laser version) would be an extra $150 but it wouldn't fit under some of our beds.

                                  • @ShortyX: Same here, I just give another 1-2 weeks and it will go back to Gearbite. Anyway, how did you contact the sales team?

                                    • @niroshbest: I just message the OzB rep (Gearbite) or reply in threads. His reply to my PM:

"sorry for the delay, just talk with dreame, they will file update at 8th Nov, customer will receive update around later Nov, as this is very big update, fix some bugs and add many functions."

I wonder if they'll give us a 90 day guarantee to try out the new firmware?

                                      • +1

@ShortyX: I got this msg from their FB page.

Hi, Firmware update will solve your problem, firmware update will be ready in Nov.
