great price for gen 1, using for past 12 months and love it.

May not be great fit if you have carpet in full house

    • +1

did you buy it from gearbite?

      • I got from ebay but around similar price

    • Yup, broke my first-generation recently (Faulty Left Wheel) after years of use and replaced with a S5 during one of the eBay sales… Was pleasantly surprised that it didn't mind dark carpets without the sensors hack, which was the only way to get the 1st gen to work!

Add to that, got a replacement wheel off eBay which was a cheap knock off but works like a charm, so now I have 2.

      • +18

        so now I have 2.

Time to arm them and make them fight. Battlebot style.

      • What did you to cover sensor? It’s not those 3D printed covers?

        • +1

Nah, plain white printer paper and clear sellotape! The trick is to leave a little gap between the paper and the sensor else it would throw a sensor error when the paper and sensor was too close! Worked flawlessly.

          • @babayega: How does the machine work with its sensor blocked?

            • +2

@Fobsessive: The Gen1 works absolutely fine with the sensors blocked the "right" way, was using it that way for about 3 years, no sweat… But you obviously don't want to block those sensors if your floor plan has drops or falls and you don't have a way of blocking that area using magnetic tape.

Which is incidentally one of the other reasons I like my new S5, you can define/draw no-go zones via the app so no more magnetic tapes.

              • +1

@babayega: I just imagined the vacuum falling down the stairs, so sad.
I have an S5 and it is fantastic! No need for any other.

                • +1

@Fobsessive: It's all good, another entry in the Battebot round, or we can perhaps use it for spare parts depending on how realistic your imagination was:)

              • @babayega: What do you think the s5 has over the v9? Trying to compare the 2.

                • +3

@kulprit: I guessing you mean the F9, if so and just comparing specs (As I've only ever owned a Gen1 and S5 but never an F9).

The S5 has better/smarter navigation because it uses LDS as compared to camera + gyroscope on the F9.

The S5 can cover a larger cleaning area on a single run without needing to go back and recharge but to be honest, I don't really care as my cleaning schedules are for when I'm away.

The S5 also has carpet recognition and suction boost, believe me that makes a big difference!

The S5 can also be connected to smart home stuff like google and alexa, if you're into that kinda stuff and It can also store multiple maps.

The F9 though has higher suction power, bigger dustbin, bigger water tank with electric water flow control.

But overall and IMHO the S5 is a better vacuum, which obviously makes it more expensive so really a question of what you can afford/deals/sales… Like everything, boils down to $$$.

                  • @babayega: Dude any chance you can upload a pic With the paper + tape ? Got the s6 pure and e20 which have the same sensors as s5 I believe

                    • @BL1TZKRE1G: Mate, if it's the same sensor as the S5, you don't need the sensor hack… The hack was only for dark carpets and as I've mentioned above my new S5 works great on the same dark carpets right out of the box!

I used the hack on my Gen1 which had trouble with those black carpets but that's been cleaned up as I initially wanted to sell it… However, seeing the second-hand prices decided against it. Kept it for spare parts and some IOT tinkering (https://media.ccc.de/v/34c3-9147-unleash_your_smart-home_dev…).

                      Sorry, no pictures unfortunately…

                  • +1

@babayega: I did mean the f9 thanks. Great write up.

  • Hi OP you promised a special on Xiaomi Mi Robot SDJQR02RR. Will code work on that? Thanks

Edit: Or is this that model - i thought this was SDJQR01RR?

    • I believe that model is the $329 one here :)

Seems to be exactly the same from my searching unless I'm mistaken..

      • thanks ill give it a go - how long to ship?

      • Thanks can confirm it is that model from the box.

Very impressed with how it performs. I’ve previously had one of the top Samsung robotic vacuums and this is almost as good but much cheaper.

Do you guys sell parts for it?

  • Can someone just post the FB codes please? Gearbite marketing need to git gud

Doesn't looks like a good bargain for Dreame F9, Aliexpress selling for AUD 305,
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001104950975.html
Dreame official website sells lower than this price without any discount, https://www.dreame-technology.com/products/dreame-f9
Previously had a better price on Tobydeals for this
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/556078

    • +4

doesn't ship to Australia though :(

  • How long is the promo valid for?

  • +1

Is the F9 one of those ones where it has mopping but it's not that good at it so don't bother?

Been waiting for the 1st gen to come up again, but been waiting so long maybe the mopping is actually decent on robo vacs now? :P

    • S5 has mopping and rather comparable to a damp cloth wiping, not very great. I have the S5

  • Any deals on replacement filter kits for Gen1?

    • I found that it's easier to clean by clipping a facemask between the filter and dust bin

      • I cut up toilet paper and use that.

    • +1

I got 10 for around $20 delivered via Aliexpress. They work well if you’re not in a rush to get them.

  • How good is the Gen 1 robot vacuum? Do you still need to do a hard vacuum?

    • +1

It's obviously upto the individual but I would strongly suggest using the robot vacuum as a secondary vacuum.
Best combo would be to have a cordless stick vacuum plus robot vacuum.

    • +1

It depends on your floors. If all hard floors then this and a stick would be fine for when you spill your salt. Having said that, I have carpets in the bedroom and the Gen 1 works great but one pass isn’t enough. I send it around and around until it does a pass and doesn’t pick up anything. Can take 6 times or more depending on how often you run it (if you have kids you need to pick up all the toys first so I don’t vacuum as often as I’d like).

  • Is the v9 robot the newest middle version? I can see what I get over the v1. What do I lose compared to going to the s50 Max or similar?

    • F9 is new product.

      • Can I see the user manual?

I already bought the Deebot 900 from Aldi and the battery life is very small and the bin is too small, I'm thinking to return it and go for the F9.

        Few questions:
1: can I assign different rooms to clean? For eg: Every Monday 9am: living room, Everyday:10pm dining room? (deebot doest have that option)
2: Greabite: Are you a local company? Where do you locate?
3: How do i get the $10 off?
        4: what's the return policy?

        • Replied by PS, please check.

  • @Gearbite Is this deal the one implied by your previous comment?

    • +2

      Yes.

      • Thanks looking to get it :)

  • +2

    F9 or Aldi one?

  • +1

Dreame F9 vs Roborock ? Which is better?

  • 1st gen isn't literally their 1st gen, right? didn't those come out like 5 years ago? why would they call it that?

    • +3

Its still good if u dont want to spend more than $300

    • The price hold up really well. I was hoping the price would come down after 4 years, but the newer generation just got more and more expensive while the 1st gen stays the same.

  • @Rep any chance of a deal on the Mijia 1C?

    • What's the different between Mijia 1c and Dreame f9??

      • Similar design , F9 have Double the battery, better mapping function and more features.

  • Hi, is this covered under Australian manufacturer warranty?

    • 12 months warranty.

    • +4

I've gone through warranty with them before and had no issues, really easy going, smooth process.

  • Th/mania, I almost settled for the 1c and am so glad I waited. This will be my second 1st gen, I gave my original to my parents when I got the s50.

Can’t believe i paid <300 over 3 years ago for my original gen 1 and paid only $359 for the s50… if only I’d known..

Oh well, best price I’ve seen for the gen 1 in ages so thank you!

  • +2

I paid $299 for the gen1 almost 4 years ago. Still works fine but amazing how it hasn't budged in price

    • same here. it is fantastic apart from the app which sometimes takes good 3-4 minutes to load the map. other then that it's great. i am so happy with it

    • +1

Yeah, hard to improve on what's already a really good design, so they went with a more expensive route for the better ones, and cheaper prices for ones without the laser guidance, so this is pretty much mid range now.

      • which xiaomi or actually other branded vacuums models are high range or top class?

        • +1

xiaomi roborock s5 Max and s6 is where is at. Not too familiar with the other brands, as honestly the xiaomi ones have always been cheaper in all ranges. I mean you pay in other ways with possible privacy issues with their apps, but that's life.

          • +1

@la838: I don't even use the app. Just press the button lol

            • @sktzr: Is yours connected to the wifi? Or can you just switch on and run it without wifi?

              • @pramki: i think initially it was on wifi but long since changed my wifi settings and now just hit the power button to clean.

  • @gearbite, I just bought your Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1st Gen but I forgot to sign up to the facebook page first. Sorry to bother but could I cancel or amend my order?

    • +1

Message them on fb, my friend made the same mistake, and he was able to cancel.

    • +2

send me message with your order no, will happy to help.

  • +2

What do people think of the dream F9?
I have been waiting for the gen 1. Is the F9 worth the extra money? What are the reviews like?

  • -4

    Does this mop?

    • One does and one doesn’t

  • OP, i applied the code with F9 and the price is $439

    • +2

Have to sign up to their fb page to get the extra $10 off

  • Hi, would the roborock S50 go on sale anytime soon? Wondering if I should wait for that or just go for it….

  • Is Dreame F9 a Xiaomi brand? Are they two different brands?

  • No-go zone using vitrual wall is also available on the 1st gen, also I believe with firmware updates, you can also access selected room cleaning.

    • is there a link for this?
I've done extensive search but didn't see anything that suggests no go zone is possible on gen 1?

  • +1

how come we don't see gen 2 s50/s51.

  • +1

Anyone know a smarter one that can avoid sucking the electrical cords/charging cords or can avoid getting stuck on obstacles/tricky situations? Maybe the latest version with AI (that I heard somewhere before)???
I have had several well-known brands/models (Not the No name ones) but they all got caught in these situations and often don’t finish and need my help to unstuck them.

    • the Roborock S6max has these features but at twice the price.

  • Thank you, I have been waiting for gen1 to get to around $320.

  • dreame f9 or the deebot 900?

  • So is gen 2 better than f9?

  • Is there a way to get it to work with google home?

  • My new house is ready in December and I've been thinking about a robot vacuum to do the bottom floor which is literally just 40m2 open plan living dining. The flooring is vinyl and it won't have any furniture to obstruct it ( getting tall legs on lounge ).

Are these suitable if I have two small dogs that shed hair if I use it in a combination with a Dyson V6 animal Dyson ? The robot will solely be used whilst I'm at work doing the open area, no bedrooms.

    Cheers

  • Owned both Gen's. Sold my 1st gen to get the 2nd, but regret changing for little gain. If you are in the market and deciding between the two, just go 1st gen and buy two 1st gens instead. Having two you will get a clean double as fast if you zone OR deeper clean.

    • Are you actually referring to the Dreame F9 when you said you own the 2nd gen? Interested to know as I'm looking at getting the Dreame F9 and the Gearbite associate said F9 is a new model not the 2nd Gen.

      • Referring to Xiaomi Roborock S50. Not familiar with Dreame F9.

        • Thanks for clarifying! Cheers.

  • +1

Hi @gearbite are you likely to do the deal on the S5 max and S6 pure that is mentioned in the facebook group? I'm interested in comparing to the dreame to purchase

  • How good is it’s mopping? Does it drip water?

    • F9 have e-tank, you can control Water flow by APP.

      • Hi how long is delivery?

        • What is your location?

          • @Gearbite: Sydney

            • @Captain Hindsight: Normally 2-4 business days, please allow extra 2-4 days due to lock down.

              • @Gearbite: What about accessories for Xiaomi Dreame F9? Easily available ?
Or all Xiaomi robo vacuum use same accessories?
