  So $171 total price or fiver extra to get it from Amazon with their customer support. Or save $20 getting the Elements version.

  Either case, double check if this WD drive has the custom soldered board and avoid if it does. What this means is if the circuit board dies (more likely than the drive itself dying), you can't shuck it and put into another enclosure or use a SATA cable directly.

      3-year limited warranty isn't going to help you if the drive dies and you lose the contents. Sure you might get a replacement one but you've lost your data which can be more valuable.

      Other drives (including previous WD ones), you can open it up and use a SATA cable directly to retrieve your files. With some of these, you cannot. Seems silly to buy them.

        The seller aint gonna tell you this. They're interested in shifting product.

        No one covers loss of data (outside of some enterprise examples).

        If you're a Ford dealer and you know your car has automatic box problems (Powershift) why would you tell prospective customers? Buy our shit cars!

        These are fine for say Xbox PS4 Steam use since the data isnt valuable but outside of that….

      What cable snapped? Do you mean the port?

      You can generally open those cases up and get another cable or enclosure to continue using the drive normally.

          @[Deactivated]: You can get replacement power adapters fairly easily but yes you can open the case and plug it into a computer with the right SATA and power cables too.
