Wow, a game designed by a Chinese company, i have to say it looks bloody good. It used to be Japanese companies dominating everything in visual arts related products like comics, games or animations. Chinese companies have really stepped up their efforts and posed some really good contenders lately.

I was really amazed by the Chinese comic scene, it is huge and roaring like an unstoppable train. There are hundreds of them being continuously published, many of them top notch quality with 2 to 3 hundred of chapters already. Not like Japanese manga series that are published once a week and in black and white. Chinese comics, like American ones, often put out 2-3 chapters a week, and every page coloured. I used to think Japanese mangas like one piece or Naruto were the best ones in the world (they probably still are) and scoffed at the idea of Chinese comics. But after binging on some of the good Chinese ones with beautiful colour and good engaging stories, i couldn't be so wrong, i now find it hard to go back to the black and white Japanese manga anymore.

        There's crap amongst everything, though.

Their "Anime" has gotten better too, these last few years. From the King's Avatar series in 2D, to the recently released Ne Zha Movie in 3D.

my jaw dropped when I saw 'Fog Hill of Five Elements' by accident, done by a small studio, the art style and animation are gorgeous and totally original and truly a breath of fresh air.

    • The korean manhwas are pretty great too, like solo-leveling, second coming of gluttony, sweet home, to name a few. The item available from leviathan scans are great and I enjoy 90% of the manga/manhwas there.I personally think now is the age of the Korean manhwas due to their story and production values.

Japanese mangas and chinese manhwas are currently on par, with mangas being pretty standard for me (save a few exceptional ones) and chinese manhwas with their recycled storylines of MC bullying, revenge and karmic retribution.

I prefer a good storyline for mangas, which has in the past few years led to me to light novels, which some are the story source of the mangas/manhwas we now read.

      • Solo leveling is good! I think the light novel has finished. But I like reading the Manhwa. I liked the old Chinese manhwas done by Tony Wong like Dragon Tiger Gate but i haven't found new chinese manhwas done by other authors which has yet to capture my interest. In fact, I found myself reading more and more Korean Manhwa more than the Chinese manhwa. I'm sure one day i'll find one to my liking.

I remember 'reading' some of them as they were in Chinese and I can't read that, but the art was pretty good. The best art among all the comics I've read. My personal favourite was a localised version of 'Blood Scorpion 13', quite akin to the Jap masked riders.

A Chinese manhwas few which I think stand out:
          - Tales of Demons and Gods [Light novel is quite alright]
          - Apotheosis
          - Martial Peak
          - Star Martial God Technique

Unfortunately lots of Chinese manhwas follow a certain direction and it gets boring/predictable too quickly. The Korean manhwas are really good, especially some of the martial arts genres, which I think substitutes well for the Chinese counterpart like 'Peerless Dad' or 'Legend of The Northern Blade' + a few of the newer ones.

    • Thanks for sharing, any recommended titles and sites we might be able to read from?
