  • Fender's earphones are not bad.

I'm a novice at in-ear monitors but are they really that expensive? RRP $789 is "not bad" for earphones like these?

    • Yes, they can go up to ridiculous pricing. Some people spend 2 to 3k for an IEM….remember some of these are made for people to sing on stage also. Hence, you need good noise isolation, clarity, and also stage presence?(when you can tell where a sound comes from)

I only ever bought 2 IEMs - Shure SE846 and Sony IER Z1R

      • Which do you prefer? I thought the Sony m9 were amazing, Shure were a bit heavy and not particularly detailed for the price.

Went with the Westone w60 for half price after listening to those 3 and the Sennheiser 800.

I prefer my Sony IER-Z1R more for its clarity and sound stage. Shure is good too but I think it has a little bit more bass than Sony. One thing I don't like is Sony's cable. It is so flimsy so I used my old ALO Reference 8 cable. Now, IER Z1R + ALO Reference 8 Cable is my go to for listening.

My DAP is Sony NW-WM1A so I am using 4.4mm. I do think Shure SE846 on 4.4mm is actually pretty good too. It has more bass than Sony.

If you think Shure SE846 is heavy. Sony IER-Z1R is heavier.

@Jetkuma: Agree re clarity and soundstage for the Sony vs shures that I tried.

Re weight: Oh really? Ok will keep in mind when I trial the z1r one day. No real intention to purchase but the folks at a2a have lots of my money and know my face by now, and they don't seem to mind me trialing stuff just for interests sake.

Does that Sony DAP have eq? I use an earstudio es100 to boost bass on earphones that need it. Some people hate eq but for bass I think it's entirely excusable, as long as the bass isn't lacking in quality, just quantity.

@ozbjunkie: Sony DAP has equaliser. I just love direct though :)

          • @Jetkuma: Have you tried the IER-M7? The bass seems more pronounced in this model. I got one during one of their Easter sale (I think it was better than 50% discount back then). Am really happy with them that I sold my Campfire Audio Atlas (has fitting issues with it). The M7 despite being BA has the bass signature/characteristics of a DD.

    • If you're looking for something very good and more affordable, the Westone w20 were on addictedtoaudio sale page at around $220.

  • I just need the cables for my UM miracles. Where are people buying these cables from these days?

  • I think Chifi offers better value for money.
For around $60 more, you can get Moondrop Blessing 2.

Not many brands are a available

      • +1

You still can buy them easily from online stores like Shenzhen Audio or Linsoul.

My moondrop blessing 2 took less than a week to arrive because it was posted via DHL.

Wouldn’t trust any Chinese dealer sorry…

          • @Kawaii: You can't complain that we don't have any chi-fi brands available if you refuse to buy from the manufacturer's distributors. By definition chi-fi is going to come from China. That's the whole point.

    • And if you're in it for the listening pleasure, for $230 less you can get the Moondrop Starfield.
