Have been buying these as an after workout snack for a long time, first time seeing them on sale. Would highly recommend for its simple, natural ingredients and is tasty. Doesn't make for bad farts like the other 'protein bars'.

Have been buying these as an after workout snack for a long time

    I just have an apple.

    thanks op

    10.6g sugars

    216mg sodium

    • -2

      19% fat too…

      • +1

Fat is excellent, that's what sets these apart from the other protein bars.

It's also coconut oil based fat which is… I've forgotten the term but much easier metabolize fat for energy. Is Don. Is good fat.

    • +4

Sugars are great as a replenishment after intense exercise. Insulin increases the uptake of glucose into cells which reduces any chance of the muscle eating itself as well as providing energy to the muscle to keep on working.

Sodium is also important after a work because well, you work hard right? which means you sweat? Gotta maintain that potassium/sodium balance within your cells.

Don't fall for the 'fat is bad''sugar is bad' 'salt is bad' memes

      • Pretty sure it’s better to keep the fat consumption low for an after workout meal as fat makes absorbing other nutrients harder.

That is if you care about what ‘might’ be ‘optimal’ for recovery. Unless you are a competitive athlete probs not important.

Bsc protein bars are half price at Woolies now and they have low sugar and low carbs as well. A lot better than the ones posted here.

    • +4

      Good find, only 4% carbs.

The ones posted in this deal are 23% carbs

      • Yep! I always buy them when they're half price at Woolies or Coles.

    • -1

Nah bro, a good post-work out bar replenishes your glucose stores as well. These are much better than the BSC bars you've linked

      • +4

How are they better? The ones you've posted have 25gm or protein and higher sugar and sodium, whereas the BSC ones have more protein and less sugar/sodium.

        • +3

Fair enough, maybe there's a bit of subjective "better" here. I will re-iterate then that I have tried numerous protein bars and in my own opinion these are the best :)

          • +1

            @zediah: Fair enough. :D

And by the way, I didn't neg you above.

          • +1

@zediah: @zediah: I'll have to agree with OP here, bsc bars have a long ingredients list containing stevia and "natural flavours" which companies are not required to fully disclose, if your main goal in mind is to have high protein per $, then bsc make for an easy choice. Otherwise, I'd be sticking with these protein bars.

    • These BSC are great. Workout consistently and these bars are good. Not sure about the one OP posted im sure they good but the stats speak for themselves

    • +1

the Bsc 5 pack at Woolies works out to be $1.50 each

      • That is hella cheap for protein gram per $. Would recommend creating a separate deal for that!

    • +1

They're god damn delicious. $2 for ~18gm of protein isn't cheap though.
I did buy $160 worth of them on Friday though.

    • These bars are completely different. All natural ingredients vs a whole bunch of artificial fillers/sweeteners which - pending more research seems like these cause havoc with your gut microbiome.

Beef collagen (protien) and MCT oil (fats) are both pretty expensive raw ingredients. Whey/soy protien is a very inexpensive protien source and so are all the other ingredients the BSC bars use.

I will try this bar thanks OP.

      • My gut biome is 💯, I'm also very ripped.
You're talking shit. Stop watching YouTube and listening to 'health' podcasts and get your ass in the gym.

P45 on Amazon in 1-2 flavours for $30 a box

I basically go for protein value in protein bars, not taste.

  • +5

I think I depends on your goals as to "speak for themselves". As a post (or pre?) workout bar, I believe these are the best. A fair amount of sugar, a fair mount of sodium, a fair amount of protein. They replenish the things you want replished and tasty pretty good doing so.

For those who care, they also have none of the fake sugars to make it taste alright and don't have the (subjectively) chalky taste of other non-fat non-sugar protein bars.

Best deals are when Woolies / Chemist Warehouse have the Musashi 90g Protein bars (45g of Protein per serve) for $2.50. Loaded up on a few of these from Woolies a couple of weeks ago.

12 bars for $35.88 is an everyday price. No bargain whatsoever!

Salted Caramel P45 are $30 for a box of 12 on Amazon atm: https://www.amazon.com.au/Musashi-High-Protein-Salted-Carame…

P45 is my go to, 90 gram bar, 45 grams of protein.

I usually wait for them to go 40% off or so at Woolies or Chemist Warehouse and then buy in bulk.

The new peanut butter flavour is really goo btw

    • EXACTLY. Buy protein bars for PROTEIN.
Btw, Chemist warehouse has 50% off the high protein bars rn.
