  • Can the noise cancelling be turned off?

    • Nah, not for AKG

      • -4

        No deal then…

      • If these are similar to the ones given as part of the note 10 order then yes you can.

    • -3

Yes you can. Through the app and a dedicated button on the ear cup.

Sorry stupid question, which button is it? Ive got this pair too. There's the button to pause for talking to people, is that it?

    • -1

yes you can via button. no app required.

  • How’s this compared to the Sony?

    • Better audio quality, weaker ANC and battery life. Very good for the price, though even better when you could grab a pair for $99.

If you want even better closed back audio than this, take a look at the AKG K371.

'The sound of AKG is superior to most of the headphone companies out there' - Nahhh mate.

Guess it would be wrong to buy this, must wait till it drops to $99 again.

Had these for a couple months.

Some thoughts: good sound signature (v close to Harman target), no aptx, multipoint supported, ANC is pretty weak sauce, can only be charged with USB-A to USB-C not USB-C to USB-C, and build quality is suspect at best (all plastic). I've noticed mine has developed a hairline crack on the left headband hinge. If you look online many others have the same issue. I got a free replacement however, so not a big deal.

At $99 these are a definite go, but pay any more for them and the value proposition isn't exactly there.

How did you go about getting a replacement? Were you able to mail it in?

      • Interested to know too. Mine has minor cracks from very light use. Prob just gonna plastic glue it though
        .

      • I bought it on ebay, and the seller was nice enough to send me a free replacement without me having to mail the old one in.

I have read reviews on the Samsung Australia website about people getting the run around regarding this issue, as apparently the warranty doesn't cover physical damage. But my advice would be to try and reach out to AKG/Samsung about it anyway and threaten term with ACL if they try and screw around.

        • Samsung was ok with me bringing it in to a service centre, but the closest one that was open those days was still an hour or so away. I'll contact them again to see if a closer one has opened up again or if I can possibly mail it in.

    • Major major major go

Be cautious, NC can't be turned off. You're either stuck with NC on, or Ambient mode on. I've got issues with mine where theres a weird static when switched to ambient mode and it makes them unusable.

    • There's a dude in above comments who reckons you can switch off. It's only a switch between on and ambient/talking mode yeah? No static for me though, that's bad bro. Got cracks though.

      • Yeah it's either ANC on, or ambient/talkthu mode where the outside sound is amplified. Also when ambient/talkthru mode is active I do notice a constant low roar that isn't present in normal mode. I stop noticing it after a while, but it is there.

      • Own a pair, pretty sure that there isn't a "normal" mode. Theres the NC mode and 2 types of Ambient modes, which can be configured through the app.The static for me is terrible, especially in a quiet environment. Drove me crazy and ended up getting a good deal on some XM3's.

  • Amazing sound quality - much better to my ears than the Sony XM3's. Noise cancelling is nearly as good (and doesn't have the same pressure feeling I got with the XM3's).

As with others, mine has started to develop hairline cracks on both the left and right hinges and on the outside left (at ~4 months old). I've been in contact with AKG who have stopped responding to my emails, and strongly suggested in their responses that it was "physical damage" and not covered under warranty. Quite disappointing as I absolutely love the sound/comfort of these :(.

    • are the cups as large and spacious as the XM3? I have big ears, and many of these make my ears hot because there's not much space inside the cups.

      • +1

Cups are small compared to xm3/4. Clamping is also tight.

        • thanks, i'll pass. Don't like tight clamping or small cups.

      • +2

Not quite as large, but the pads definitely feel more "premium". As odc said, clamping is reasonably tight but it doesn't bother me.

  • I got a pair with the note 10. Great headphones. Noise cancelling is excellent. Very comfortable.

  • I got a pair with my Note 10 and I use it every day for a few hours (audiobooks).
It is as comfortable as any (and the ears sweat as in any other).
I am not qualified to grade the sound quality - but for me is more than good enough.
I have purchased a USB-c cable with a detachable (magnetic) end so I do not have to insert/remove the power cable all the time.
I am not too sure what M2 suffix signifies…
