Never got an Amrketing email before

I don't mean to be sceptical but any website which has 251 reviews and every one of them is 5 stars and they are all from verified customers does raise some red flags for me.

    https://www.yaqishaving.com.au/pages/reviews

    Either they are the best products and have the best customer service or;
    1. They are deleting negative reviews
    2. Posting fake reviews

    • +3

That's a possibility with any site. It also says 251 5-star reviews, it doesn't specify how many 4-star or lower reviews it has.

That being said, having personally used a handful of their brushes and several of their razors, they really do offer bang for buck shaving gear that is very popular both in Australia and overseas. Head over to the feedback section of the Yaqi Alixpress store and check out the feedback there if you have concerns about the products. Do note though that Yaqi Australia is seperate from the Chinese factory, as is an authorised reseller that has local stock that ships immediately and also sells non Yaqi branded products.

Agree but I feel this approach harms them more than benefits, I'd rather see a website have a number of bad reviews and customer's complaining and their response to that bad feedback as at least it helps build my trust in them.

      • Also I just looked at your posts…. You really like shaving discounts, have you subscribed to every shaving website's mailing address?

        • Is that a problem? I only post deals for stores I genuinely use and like their products. I'm not going to share deals to products I think are shit, have no experience with or have shit service.

Also, if we're taking a dig at profiles, you could at least post a deal before commenting on someone else's activity.

          • @Wilkshire13: Geez don't get defensive, I wasn't taking a stab at you was more stating the opposite that you must love shaving.

            • +3

@TThomas: Sorry man, been a few dicks on here recently taking a stab for just that, my apologies.

I'll admit I do really enjoy wet shaving, it's a great way to unwind and take care of myself.

              • +2

@Wilkshire13: I agree with you there. Got my shaving cream, silver tip brush and my safety razor. It's therapeutic, especially when I don't need to shave for work any more (working from home) and I can take my time and relax and shave

                • +1

@TThomas: I'm slowly moving into the straight razor side of it and it's given a real appreciation for the whole process all over again. Definitely one of the more enjoyable aspects of life

I scrolled to the bottom of the first page and there's a 1 star there, there are also unverified customer reviews and some 3-4 star reviews scattered around.
I also just bought a Sagrada Familia at this sale price from them last week and it shipped out (physically at post office) same day a few hours later and is a great brush that was packaged better than it needed to be with packing peanuts. For that reason I would lean towards the products and service just being good.

      • Can't fault them for service and the sale prices make them some of the best value brushes.

  • +2

I've bought from them and left a review.

Not saying there's no possibility of fake reviews but they are excellent.

I've had a couple of synthetic brushes and a few different razor / head combinations. All really good quality.

    • +2

Agreed, I've got two Yaqi synthetic brushes, a Silvertip Badger knot, and a Boar knot from them, as well as a few razors, all of which have been fantastic quality. Having dealt with the owner a few times, he is a genuine guy trying to sell quality products and works with the wet shaving community to bring some new and great products here.

I bought one of their "defect" brushes from their aliexpress store. I watch PaulHFilms on Youtube and he seems to use a few Yaqi brushes so I thought I'd buy one. Hopefully its good

        • Which brush did you go with? Each knot will perform slightly differently, but the 4 Yaqi's (Silvertip, Boar, Tuxedo & Plisson) I have tried have all been excellent performers, even outperforming a custom synthetic brush 5 times their price

          • @Wilkshire13: Yaqi Sagrada 24MM tuxedo

            • @WinstonWithAY: Update: Just received the brush today. Honestly have no idea what the "defect" in the handle is. There's a little bit less of the pattern on one side of the brush near the base of the knot, maybe that's it? Looks completely fine to me and seems to function just fine. Brush is incredibly soft as well. Will probably buy another one from them at some point in the future.

  • I'm using a Frank Shave silvertip badger brush that's been fine with creams but recently got some Sterling soaps and think something with a bit more backbone might work better. Any recommendations?

    • +1

I've used synthetic brushes for the last six months, mainly a Yaqi tuxedo 24mm and it was fine for stirling soaps in my opinion. However, my silvertip is stiffer than the tux due to less loft.

A 2-band best badger would be stiffer than the silvertip otherwise a boar brush would give you even more again, with the downside of being scratchy until it really breaks in.

You could always soak the soap with warm water to soften it before use, I found this helps with some really hard soaps/shave sticks.

      • +1

Thanks, have ordered a two band badger to try. I'm guessing as the weather warms the soap will soften but always looking for an excuse to buy more stuff I don't really need.

        • Nice choice! Still give the soaking a go.
I soaked a tub of Face Fat Minted Lime earlier today as its a fairly hard, brittle soap when it's cold and dry. 30 seconds underwater and it was soft and malleable, with an easy to load layer over the top. It really does work wonders, but you have to let the soap air dry afterwards.
