Keep in mind that if you actually have the money for something better you shouldn't get this.

These work very poorly in comparison to a split system aircon.

yeah they suck. take up too much space and are ineffective and actually they heat up at the back too. I used one last summer in my room but it was still useless, was better off with a fan. if the weather heats up I will look into getting a proper A/C installed if there are good deals

$299 at aldi for similar unit

    60 refund policy
    heats as well
    aldi = better deal

  • We had one before we had a split system installed and it worked well. However, we have roof and wall insulation and we were able to close the lounge room off so that probably helped as well.

They work, but only for very small rooms. It also helps to wrap the exhaust tube with layers of cloth (cling wrap also works too) to prevent the heat radiating back into the room.

  • not a crazy sale if you can get a similar price from local shops. Bunnings selling them for $299
also you would prably end up spending more money on ur elect bill as these are not efficient.

Wouldn't have done without my portable AC in one place I rented a few years back. But they really suck compared to a split system.

    Pros
    - Cheap.
    - Relocatable.
    - Provide better relief than a fan on a hot day.

    Cons
    - Noisy.
    - Least efficient type of air con.
    - Very mixed results with their room cooling ability.
    - Takes up significant floor space, more than just the footprint of the unit as allowance must be made for positioning the duct.
    - Can be a pain to adapt the duct to various types of windows or other openings.
    - Water receptacle must be emptied regularly.
    - No reverse cycle.
    - Low resale value.
    - Short warranty.

There was a better alternative for people considering a portable air con, but I don't know if you can still get them:
