I might ask the same question in forums but I'm looking for a good value 82-85 inch TV and there doesn't seem to be much buzz about TVs at all on the internet and finding reviews is really difficult. Where does this TV sit in the scheme of things? I know it's 'budget' but if I run with an AppleTV 4k and this, what would be the verdict? The room it will go into has windows all down one end but heavily shaded with a pergola.

If I could NEG this I would. Under no circumstances should anyone in ANZ be promoting TCL televisions. They are by far the work operating systems known to man and their support is horrific. STAY AWAY FROM TCL ALL MODELS.
Guessing you've owned all their products, and they all failed within a week?
My experience with TCL is trash too, but it was am early plasma from… 2004 I think.
From what I've read they've improved a lot with TVs - BUT I still see lots of talk about American TCL being good, and us getting trash.
I'm willing to give them a go.
bought couple TCL 65 inch about 23 years ago. They outperformed Samsung etc in clarity and colour sharpness and have been great performers so far. Cant knock them for the price

That's alot of screen….. Makes my 55" look tiny….
how are the black levels?
Since no worthy dimming technology is mentioned in marketing, I'd wager this panel is edge lit, which is pretty common for this size, thickness, and price.
As such, I wouldn't expect blacks to be overly good or consistent.
