  • How does this compare to Arlo or Eufy cams?

    • Hi. This one is wifi camera (needs to be wired) with 5MP resolution instead of battery powered camera with 1080P resolution.

  • How far is the range of these things? I was going to get Eufy at one point but it has to be close to the home station which my house will make it difficult.

    • Hi. The WiFi range in open area is 260-295ft. However, the WiFi signal can be easily affected by the environment. The actual distance you can get relies on your camera working environment.

      • +2

        What's that in Australia?

        • Hi. The working environment is not different in your region, but meaning the walls and barriers between the camera and router. Basically, the signal will reduce more when there are more walls between. The 2T2R MIMO antennas enhance network signals, which would be stronger than other wifi cameras do.

            @dealbest: I think he meant in meters. 79 - 89m

            • +1

@jm01: Oh, I didn't aware of that. Thanks.

              • -4

@dealbest: Don't you have metres in China? Or all big-noses look like Meiguoren?

        • +1

The WiFi range is 80-90 meters in open area. :P

  • Apart from zoom (x3 vs x4) and PoE, any other difference between this one and https://www.amazon.com.au/Reolink-Security-Optical-Waterproo… if using cabled connection?

    • Apart from PoE, there is few difference. 511W has 2.7-12mm lens with 31-90° viewing angle, and max frame rate is 25fps, while 522 has 2.8-8mm lens with 48-94° viewing angle, 30fps max.

  • Hey rep, I 've already had a RLN8-410-PoE-NVR with 6 PoE cams and 2 of those RLC-511W cams and I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the system. Would I be able to add 1 more RLC-511W to my NVR and display it (no recording, the extra one will record straight to SD card)? Thanks

    • +1

Hi. The NVR has only 8 channels, so it cannot be added to your NVR if you have 8 cameras occupied already. But you can record straight to the SD card, though.

      • Thanks dealbest. I hate the 3x3 display mode with a black channel and wish to display something there :(

  • I have a Reolink Argus Eco outdoor camera and quite happy with the product. 7 day free cloud storage is great

Just a heads-up with this. I got it a few weeks ago, and one thing that wasn't clear when I bought it, was how the FTP works. I was under the impression (going by Reolink's site) that you could schedule an FTP upload, and it would pull the data off the SD card, and upload it to your server. You can't do this. Instead, it does a sort of live FTP upload. When triggered, either by movement or a time schedule, it starts live uploading/recording over the FTP to your server. E.g. If you schedule to upload at 13:00, it will start recording @ 13:00, and upload that recording to the FTP in real time. The only way to pull the SD card files is by using their client, or logging into the camera via a web browser.

  • Is it a sparkys job to help get power to these things outside and around the house?

    • +1

These cams receive power over Ethernet (POE).
As such “powering” these cams up is plug and play

      • Why would you PoE a WiFi camera? Sorta defeats the purpose of the WiFi doesn't it? I have RLC-410W and all I do is run a 12v DC plug line to the camera from a AC plugpack, or from a Lithium battery pack with a 10w Solar panel. To be honest, 10W solar panel is not enough, the Lithim battery eventually goes flat. And that's with the IR LED emitters TURNED OFF. The camera draws 8W, so probably a +20W solar panel is needed to keep a battery topped up when supplying this camera power from a battery.

        • Wiz, simple answer, subbed to multiple reolink posts, predominantly POE based systems.
Thought the question was for a POE cam, thus the response.
In the spirit of “tbh”, personally I wouldn’t bother with a wifi outdoor cam.

  • Are there any camera options that can also trigger a light?
