Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 32GB (4G + Wi-Fi) $216 Shipped (with Minimum $15 x 12 Month SIM Plan) @ Optus Online

230

Be nice as my 2nd Ozbargain deal posting, please remove if duplicate though I did do a thorough search and let me know if changes or more info is needed

On offer from Optus online a Samsung 32gb TAB A 10.1 4G Cellular/Wifi version tablet
Cost of tablet $216,. i.e $282.96 off RRP of $498.96

For tablet with FREE delivery + REQUIRED SIGNUP too a NO CONTRACT month to month data plan and your required to stay minimum for 12mths of the set 24mths plan for the month to month data plan or youll be penalised and end up paying the full RRP price of $498.96 (minus $20.79 p/m you've stayed every month on the plan @ cancellation) for the tablet,.,.. list of plan costs below
So minimum cost paying outright the tablet at 12mths is $249.48 + discounted tab repayments I.e. $9 x 12mths + cost of plan @ 12mths you've chosen, the tablet actually works out cheaper if one stays on plan for 24mths i.e. whole cost of tablet cost would be $216 as Optus gives a monthly discount rebate @ $11.79 p/m but of course the data plan you choose willn costs every month more past 12mths
confirmed you can cancel @ 12mths as it shows in my Optus app, I went with the 24mths plan setup, not sure if same applies being allowed to cancel at 12mths if one sets at 36mths, ?it might benefit this deal?

If you prefer Telstra over Optus, Telstra has a very similar deal here,..
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/480775

More of a bargain if your already are on a month to month data plan with Optus (like me),. if you are,.. your actual cost technically is just the tablet @ $216 if you plan like me keeping the data plan
(Mine arrives today and ill be trying my luck selling this on eBay hopefully paying at least or more 12 months of my current data plan, I'm on the extra small data plan @ $15 p/m)

So factor in additional costs of a month to month data plan with Optus too obtain this deal (I reckon) heavily discounted Samsung 4G 10.1 inch tablet (note: 12 mths data plan not included in this deal)
$15 Plan (10gb data) 12mths=$180
$25 Plan (50gb data) 12mths = $300
$50 Plan (150gb data) 12mths = $600
@ 24mths plan, tablet cost = $9 per month
@ 36mths plan, tablet cost = $6 per month but this will increase your plan costs so for the sake of $3 p/m best go on the 24mths plan plus a shorter contract to deal with

Deal for new and recontracting services only. Deal Ends Monday 12/10/2020

I checked cashback for cashrewards
Details state for Optus cashback,..

Postpaid Mobile: Handset & SIM Plans $55
Postpaid Mobile: SIM Only Plans $30
(I couldnt use cashrewards as I basically updated an existing data plan and had too speak to an Optus agent and don't know if Optus considers a 4G tablet as a mobile device, though please anyone trying cashrewards do let us know if the cashback registers on your account as that could be another $55 discount)

Another bonus for those actually thinking of moving there mobile plan too Optus, Optus offers 25% discount on your 2nd mobile or data plan service
(Suggest confirm this with an Optus agent & document everthing)
https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/plans/shop?
Example there $59.00 month to month mobile plan with unlimited calls/SMS In/From Australia to 35 selected destinations, Free 5G Access, Optus Sport, 100gb data + other extras included
$59 × 25% = $14.75 which pretty much pays for your 1st service extra small data plan
And Optus offers data sharing so your total data will be 110gb over 2x 4G/5G simcards
Great if you need data @ home if you can't or don't want too pay for the NBN but of course depends on your data requirements,.. well you can move your 1st service data plan too the highest plan costing $35 more and giving you an extra 140gb of data,.. so 100gb (mobile sim) + 150gb (data sim) total 250gb of data for $119 p/m inc other extras calls/sms etc,.. no contract month to month plan so change your data plan at your will,..

Also note: you don't need too take up this tablet deal you can just sign up your 1st service with just the data plan but if your going to go that far you might as well take the great tablet deal @ $216,.. $9 p/m more if you can afford it
Please important make sure your 1st service is the data plan and activated first or youll end up discounting the data plan @ 25% maybe wait till your first service is activated for few days then move forward signing up activating your second service

Notice to: in there details also for this tablet deal, which is incorrect as I checked with an Optus agent online, well it doesn't make sense anyway, it states,..
""Min. cost $491.10 plus your chosen plan fees""

Depends how you look at it its not a bad deal depending on your circumstances, data requirements and if you need a new data plan, mobile plan

EDIT: Thanks to Smokey010 just too note,..
only for 2’nd Mobile plan service (can only be a new service) not a Data plan and has to be within 30 days after you sign up a new number or recontract existing plan under the same account

Though contradicting Smokey010 statement above as in the past I have signed up too a 2nd Optus service way past 30 days from my 1st service

And also important,.. few days ago I spoke to an Optus agent online and she clearly stated there is no weblink too show details about the 25% discount,. So again PLEASE everyone VERY IMPORTANT you speak too an agent and ask the question about the 25% discount on 2nd service, best online chat and document everything with screenshots to cover your back side, I always do

Ok spoke too Optus again just to clarify few things

Firstly as shown in details in my Optus app for this deal
Cost to cancel
Termination charges $0.00
Device repayments left $498.96
Other charges $0.00
Total cost $498.96
As an Optus agent explained to me the device repayments left of $498.96 is the amount if I terminte early on the 1st day of deal,..
say use 24mth plan (as i have signed up too), if i terminated today that's the amount I need to pay as penalty for terminating early, now divide $498.96 by 24mths = $20.79 is the monthly amount my "device repayments left will deduct by monthly till it reaches $0 in 24 mths, i.e I've paid the tablet off 👍
At the same time Optus offers me a monthly rebate for staying on the plan during the 24nths plan, which is $11.79 monthly
$20.79 - $11.79 = $9 my total monthly cost for my tablet device
So $9 × 24 mths = $216 the total cost of the tablet for me over 24mths, done deal 👍😀

  • Sorry tried too keep my description above short as possible

note: my 2nd mobile plan is a $50 plan with a lot more data and extras and its discounted too $35 which pays off my 1st extra small data service at $15

Do the maths at 25% for 2nd service,. Optus made a mistake somewhere which there great at making 👍😀

  • Great find OP.

From the Critical Information Summary, it says that the minimum term is only one month. So it does look like you can cancel the plan, and continue to pay $9 a month for 24 months, and possibly just cancel the plan to pay it off early.

I would be all over this if it was the 128GB/3GB Memory model. I feel that 2GB of memory would be too little.

    Edit: I'm wrong, sorry.

Interest free device payments if you remain on any month-to-month Data SIM Plan for 24 months. Min. cost $487.17 plus your chosen plan fees.

    • Overall well I think generally tablets at the $300 price point seem/feel too be sluggish, got too consider like me my brain is use too a fast high end Note 9 mobile which doesn't help the matter, but saying that there are overall good reviews for this tablet, not sure if the 3gb ram would help i think its more too do with the proccessor, anyway the RRP price is close too $500 cause this is the 4G + wifi version,. anyway im not home but mine just arrived home today,, not bad took 4 days from creating the order, like I said mines going on eBay first hopefully pay if my 1st data plan a little as I find tablets annoying I rather use my zippy Note 9 👍😀🤑🤪

      • I did the same thing with a Galaxy S4 on an optus plan. My advice is to not open it - sell it as unopened. Include the receipt.

  • Optus offers 25% discount on your 2nd mobile or data plan service.

It’s only for 2’nd Mobile plan (only new service) not a Data plan and has to be within 30 days after you sign up a new number or recontract existing plan under the same account.
Also it’s comes to $216 for that tablet when you stay in contract for 36 months (Save $282.96 off RRP $498.96). However if you cancel early like OP suggestion, minimum costs will still be $498.
Correct me if I am wrong.

    • yes for you too claim it your mobile service as a 2nd service after the mentioned above in description 1st data plan service,.. of course youll need too start a new mobile service as 2nd service to claim the 25% discount on 2nd service, like i said in description would suit those planninh moving from another telco provider

edit: and ill add the your extra info in description, so thanks though Optus agent online told 2nd service can be either a mobile or data service, you wouldn't have a direct link by chance?

      • +1

However Data plan service be Data only Sim or when bought with Tablet/iPad plan never allows you for 25% multi service discount.

    • I signed up for 24 months and it states in black and white,

""Interest free device payments if you remain on any month-to-month Data SIM Plan for 24 months""

      https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/tablets/samsung/galaxy-tab-a…

there is an option/tab too hit for 24 months plan you might of missed

edit: before I signed up for this tablet deal,..

My 2x Optus plans from from May 2018 have been

1st service $15 extra small data plan
2nd service $50 mobile plan discounted too $35
Total cost too me every month has been $50 per month every month
I also went too the trouble few days back of speaking too an Optus agent confirming the 25% discount for a 2nd service and she stated this can be applied too a data or mobile plan as 2nd service (funny the Optus agent clearly stated there is no weblink too show this,. So again everyone VERY IMPORTANT to speak too an agent and ask the question about the 25% discount on 2nd service, best online and document everything with screenshots

Like I said in my description best confirm this with Optus before going ahead activating any service, well especially 2x services

Anyway also like I said in my description its more beneficial for one too discount there more expensive mobiile service @ 25% then there lower priced data plan @ 25% as 2nd service

    • I think if you cancel early youll loose the discount and yes costs might be $498,..I'm only assuming that cause if you hit the 12 months option plan the disckunts are removed/disappear, though too be sure one must test Optus out and I'm certainly happy to try testing this say in a few days as my tablet arrived today, .. mate love milky deals as much as possible 🤑

  • +1

waiting for your cancellation quote from the app

    • +1

I dont think the apps gonna show cancellation fees on the plan as the plan is month to month plan, so actually there is no cancellation fees for the plan as its a no contract plan

In my spp: under Cost to cancel heading
      Termination charges: still $0

There is a tab Device repayments left:: currently $0
Do note my tablet got delivered today, though funny my sim is already activated (already had my data plan it just added the tablet deal too it), does an activation trigger this 24 month plan? And Tablet repayments? As I'm hoping Optus messes up 🤪🤑

Another tab Other charges: $0 also

OK see what happens say couple days from now and will keep yous updated,..

edit: anyone like me already had/got a extra small data plan? dont you think worth adding the tablet deal too the data plan for $216 and profiting it by selling tablet on eBay? Of course depends if there is a 24ths requirement too stay on the plan for tablet discount

      • +2

I had a chat with Optus team and they told that if i cancel the plan i need to pay $491 which is the device fee. The device is discounted only if you stay on plan

        • Yeah had a feeling as honesty can't expect Optus to honour $282.96 off RRP $498.96 (even though ive seen these on eBay sell for $300ish as high as clse too $500ish of corse 4G version

Really appreciate you contacting Optus, ill edit my description and note you too, I'll even do the same and chat with them since I've order the tablet and its arrived

By chance did you ask them about the 2nd service being 25% off and required too active the 2nd service after the 1st activation service by 30 days and can the 2nd service also be a data plan, well like I've posted ive already checked and applied this in the past and this deal but a second opinion from someone else would be much appreciated

          Again thanks 👍

            @Italkdigital: Told ya 😂

            • @Smokey010: I stated that initially in my description lolz,. starting with "note: I doubt very much its possible canceling plan early", I mentioned it cause I knew people would ask as Telstra deals cancelling early,..

Now we need too sort out your theory about,…
""However Data plan service be Data only Sim or when bought with Tablet/iPad plan never allows you for 25% multi service discount":

Saying all sbove I'm here too please 😀👍

edit: what an effort on my 2nd post lolz but im learning so bring on the questions 👍

  • +1

How does it compare to this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/565212

    • 😀😀😀😀😀

    • My calculator says $41.61 difference minus a long plan, oh and less the Samsung badge, 2 years warranty, Samsung UI, Samsung quality screens etc, though if price is important its certainly a bargain 😀👍

edit: im yapping to Optus supposedly I couldnt went on a 12 mth plan but ive checked on there websiteand the discount isn't available at 12mths,.. at the end of the long convo she was certainly wrong

  • If one prefers Telstra over Optus, Telstra has a very similar deal here,..
