Chuwi Lapbook Pro - Any Good for Work Laptop

Hi there,

In Melbourne, so currently WFH. Work was kind enough to let me bring my work PC home to use, but with the possibility of returing to the office in a couple of weeks (and the hope I can still remain WFH 1-2 days), I'm looking at my options and wanted to ask the collective brains trust.

I don't really want to spend much more than $500 if I have to, and have come across this nice looking piece of kit - the Chuwi LapBook Pro.

Reviews suggest it has a very solid body, has a full HD screen which is great, my only concern is processor/RAM (I haven't really looked much into hardware the last few years to know whats good, etc).

My biggest concern is my browser use. My go to browser is Chrome and I tend to have quite a few tabs open. I'm wondering if I can modify my broswer use (try to bookmark more instead of leaving tabs open to return to later, I hear Edge is becomming a good alternative), if this would suffice.

Other than that, we work in the Office 365 environment, so I use:

  • Microsoft Office programs (primarily Word/Excel)
  • Microsoft Teams for communicating/video calls
  • I'm also looking to possibly do short screen grab videos - basically visual workflows where I record my screen and talk to complement written instructions.

If I'm able to modify my broswer use, does anyone think the processor/8GB ram would be sufficient for the work listed above? At home I would also look to have it plugged into my monitor to extend the screen.

Thanks in advance for your advice! If anyone has any alternative suggestions, I'd appreciate that too.

Last one had Amazon link. Repost.

    N4100 CPU passmark is 2500

    Latest Ryzen 5 4500U passmark is 11000

You can get Ryzen 5 for $1k.

Chuwi would probably be okay if you don't use a lot of tabs. At that price point I am not sure if it is a real SSD or a eMMC (slower) hard drive.

    • From what I've read, it's eMMC. There are comments about an expansion port for an additional M2 drive, but I need to look a bit further into that to see if it will allow to be set as primary or not.

Thank you for your other comments. Will take note of the passmarks and look at some other options.

Personally I would spend a little bit more on a more established brand. Local warranty? Though I haven't had hands on experience with these Chinese brands like Chuwi… I wouldn't expect much performance for $450 or hardware (esp that laminated screen) but if budget is top priority I guess it'll do the job. That processor is fairly old and is reflected in the price. And other corners will have to be cut as well but overall it seems to suit your needs.

If I'm able to modify my browser use, does anyone think the processor/8GB ram would be sufficient for the work listed above? At home I would also look to have it plugged into my monitor to extend the screen.

Yes for your usage 8gb RAM will suffice. However, that Intel Celeron processor will get bogged down with a large number of tabs in Chrome, so modifying you web browser usage would prob be a good idea. Overall, It'll suffice for basic office work nothing more. I would do a bit more homework on it n that particular model and then decide if it gets the job done.

You could get a decent Lenovo ThinkPad for a couple hundred more and will be a couple hundred times better with decent after sales support also.

    • Cheers. I hate to be lazy, but would you happen to have any specific recommendations/best place to buy? Just on the Lenovo website? Or better going with a reseller?
