If you have Ebay Plus you can get Lenovo Ideapad Gaming Ryzen 4600H laptop for $1219 using "Party21" voucher code vs the store deal posted earlier of $1259.

I see where you're coming from but they are very different laptops. This is more akin to the Flex 5.

I think you misunderstood my post. I know they are very different laptops. The Ideapad gaming is around 2kg. I was just stating that the Ideapad gaming is also a good deal and cheaper then the previous post earlier today on Ozbargain, which was the Lenovo site directly.

  • Damn it. Just bought it 2 days ago for $974 from their website.

    • Cancel and rebuy?

      • Shipped already :/

        • Did you use your credit card? Check if you have price protection?

          • +1

@SillySorjai: Yea, I forgot to use 28degrees and just used my AMEX which doesn't have price protection. All good.

  • How does this compare to the E15 Gen 2? Only differences I can spot are smaller screen but bigger SSD

    • Slimmer, brighter screen I believe

    • +2

This has no SODIMM slot so you have to get all the soldered RAM you need from the start. Makes it a hard no for me, went for the Flex 5 14 instead. Other than that, it's not a ThinkPad so you lose the trackpoint and that style keyboard. Screen is better than other Lenovo budget offerings but mostly only in brightness. E14/15 have 45Wh battery compared to 57. List not exhaustive, but those are probably the major differences.

  • Why don't they come with LTE dammit!

modems are like 30 bucks each

    • Any reason not to tether a phone instead?

  • What's the weight on this bad boy

    • This is all I could find: Weight starting at 1.39kg

  • +4

Spare slot? 8 GB is abit anemic

    • Soldered ram? 16gb would be better

      • look like 4 + 4 with one of them being soldered. Reported on reddit that the max is 12 GB. So take out the 4 GB ram and add in a single 8 GB.

        • +2

Should work with a 16GB stick as well for 20GB RAM.

Edit: says it doesn't have a DIMM slot here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-5-14ARE05-in-re…

        • You sure it isn't 8gb soldered and a free slot? That's how Lenovo's own site usually reads for these things. 4gb soldered and another 4gb sodimm would suck a bit

Edit: found a review of a slightly higher model with it opened up with pics - it is 4+4 hard soldered no slots, spewin!

          https://www.ultrabookreview.com/39834-lenovo-ideapad-5-14are…

on the plus side it has a second M2 slot for more SSD space if you're into that.

I only want it for my kid for school and to be able to play Minecraft and Fortnite so still might get it anyway even with the munted RAM

How does this compare to the IdeaPad Slim 5? Specs look the same? :/

    • +1

I think it's a typo. The description says 5 and the model number 81YM000MAU is a 5 on the Lenovo website

      • Correct. I just cut and paste from eBay and didn’t notice the typo. I’ve updated the title. Thanks @happydude

  • For basic office tasks - how much difference will I notice between this and the Yoga Slim 7 4800U processor?

    • +2

Zilch. Basic office tasks can be done on most laptops, definitely don't need a 4800u for that!

      • +1

        Thank you!

  • This or the Flex 5 14"?

    • Flex 5 is foldable, comes with a pen and 16gb ram.

I'd avoid, the keys are very flimsy and Lenovo are very money grubbing when things go wrong. My key got stuck and the little butterfly plastic part of one key broke off.

2 month old laptop so I tried chase up warranty but they say because the key fell off as the plastic part broke, I would need to pay for them to fix. And get this, they need to replace the whole keyboard! Its a tiny flimsy plastic piece that looks like it was made to break..

Just have nothing go wrong and you'll be fine..

    • +2

I had a similar experience with HP
Said I had to get a whole new keyboard
Except they couldn’t even provide the keyboard. They do not even provide a replacement keyboard for my laptop let alone a single key

        Sticking with Apple.

        • +1

It would've been hilarious if you said this last year when Apple were still using their crappy switches.

          • @Void: But now it’s not I guess.

            • @Icecold5000: I was about to criticize you for it but then I realized Apple went back to the old ones.

  • Where's the Yoga Slim 7 4700U/4800U? Would love to get one in Australia

    • The 4800u version seems to be a Harvey Norman exclusive at the moment:

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/lenovo-yoga-slim-7-14-inch-r…

I spoke to the online Lenovo sales rep, mid last month, regarding the 4700u version and they said it was supposed to arrive at the end of August. Will need to see if they list anything online this week, if what they said was true.

        • Yes! Considering that the 4500u version can be bought for $1209 from the Lenvo Education store.

Supposedly the S540 13" AMD version is making it's way to Australia too.

          • @shellshocked: How can I convince Gerry to sell it to me at the original $2200
            ?

This or the Flex 5 deal from Amazon? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/541372

    • +1

      I went with this one.

      Lost 8GB ram, touchscreen 2-in-1.

Gained screen brightness, DisplayPort, shipping time, 40 bucks, local warranty.

      • Thanks - I decided to go with the Flex 5. I'll be hooking it up to an external monitor anyway so not as fussed with the screen brightness and the 16GB is more important to me.

  • +4

    Memory: 8GB Soldered DDR4-3200

But why! Can't they just let it be a slot so owners can self upgrade or swap in case of bad ram.

    • +3

      Dealbreaker!!

  • +1

It's a shame that the display panel is not very colour accurate and contrast ratio is pretty poor. Does get 300 nits brightness ish, but at this price point i'll give it a pass.

  • +1

If only it was the 16GB/256GB model on sale

  • I wouldn't spend this sort of money on a laptop that is limited to 8GB RAM. There are better choices for around the same sort of money.

Is there a 14" Laptop with a Ryzen 4500U and 16GB of ram for less?

Genuinely I want to know about it if there is.

  • Is it worth to pay $188 for 3 yrs onsite warranty? For children school usage. Thanks

    Move to forum instead. Thanks

This doesn't seem to be available anymore?

    • Thanks. Marked as expired.
