  • i paid $2286 for A7R with bonus grip back in 2014. Now the RRP for new models is doubled which is insane

      This is a7RIV.

Ye i know. my point is “RRP for flagship” is more than doubled , perhaps A7R VI will cost somewhere around $6600 in next few years :(

        • The Canon R5 is their mirrorless flagship and heading out for around $6500

        • that's been happening for a lot of tech now.

    • back in 2014, AUD was about .90USD
also, the A7R was the initial launch model for the A7R line, so Sony most likely took a hit on profits to get market-share, not to mention that the focus and native lens range available for the new FE mount was not much of a draw

      • retailers/manufacturers pocketed the high exchange rate anyway. As if it was going to be passed on to you.

check the historical prices for high end electronics goods such as this. They dropped significantly as the AUD went above parity with the USD. Since then, it's been a steady increase.

@sol95: I remember games costing $120 when the dollar was above parity.

If the dollar drops, prices will go up. If the dollar rises, they won't drop. They're just going to say 'rising costs'. It's a known fact that US (not Aussie) MSRPs keep going up for many flagship tech products. US MSRPs are irrespective of the AUD value. This will vary on how in demand the product is and how much competition they have.

This is a really good deal for this camera. I was searching for weeks around April - May for the best price I could get on this or the A7R3. Ended up buying the 4 for $4699. No regrets, incredible camera.
