  • Going to take the gamble and try these.

Will be comparing them against other disposable face masks and N95 mask.

    • +1

This vs n95 mask? Will choose n 95

      • +1

Even better get a Xiaomi purely air and have the fan blow filtered air into your mask.

    • +1

Light a candle and attempt to blow it out by blowing through the mask. Could not blow out the candle. This means that the filter in the mask is effective!

      • +2

I used glad wrap and also couldn't blow out the candle, must be effective too.

  • +2

    Non-medical…. pass

  • +1

better to use fiber cloth to cover your face than this mask?

  • -4

these are non medical dust masks
You may use it for the sole purpose of complying the law of wearing masks in public places
but it has 0 protective function

    • +4

really, that's interesting, could you link me the article?

    • +3

Surely its better than wearing nothing?

    • +1

it will protect others from you

      • Marginally better than nothing. Fine if you live in an area with no community transmission, otherwise please choose something FAR better.

    • +2

0 protective function is not true. It'll be as effective as any other cotton/reusable mask like the ones they sell at Bonds, etc. Those too aren't medical but they still provide some physical barrier.

      • -3

        like burkha's then

        • They were ahead of us this whole time! Is it how they prevented MERS???

          • @ATangk: they are designed to protect the user …but banned?

            • @petry: Must be an inside government job to spread flu to all of us.

              • @ATangk: or just those in non-COALition states? the ones where only nasty politicians live…

Lots of reviews saying that the product they received wasn't William Klein but a generic Chinese brand called Longtu that was already past its period of validity. I'd avoid these unless you just want a mask for the sake of wearing one.

      • +2

Those standards are set for the purpose of emergency use of surgical masks for use in healthcare settings, and these masks aren't advertised as such either. I'd be surprised if any disposable masks on Amazon are.

    • +2

Would it matter if it was William Klein ? That is also not a known brand

      • +1

Is it Calvin's younger lesser known brother?

    • +1

People are misreading the dates on the provided certification slip, getting the date that the certification standard was set mixed up with production date.

    • a generic Chinese brand called Longtu

I think LongTu is not even the manufacturer. According to it's website, it states "LongTu is a professional import and export trading company."

Certification on the page only lists a "non-contact infrared thermometer", "KN95 face mask", a particle respirator (all issued by China) and a "civil mask" issue by Poland.

      • +2

Brand is Longtu, manufacturer listed as Dongguan Longcheng Garment Co., LTD on the included certification slip that comes with it.

But really, not like reusable cloth face masks come with certification either. If they fit properly and pass the inability to blow out a candle test, then they're just as fit for the same purpose, right?

        • then they're just as fit for the same purpose

There are some countries that are well known for "dodgy" products. This brand/manufacturer may be OK for some but I am not risking my life nor my family's for something with a questionable "certification".

          No offense to anyone.

  • +3

Would definitely buy if these are Calvin rather than William Klein.

    • Im sure theres one of those 5 min crafts where they turn a pair of undies into a mask.

    • +1

No difference, both made in China.

  • +1

I'm buying these just for the fact that they claim to effectively block 'The Smell'.

    • Anti morning breath protection

  • Open one up and pour water into it, if it doesn't leak through, least you know its somewhat effective.
