been holding out for a cheap breville precision brewer. this is VERY tempting though.

Same here. I haven't been able to find one, and they seem to be discontinued. Would be nice if this had a schedule function on it, but I guess that can be accomplished by a smart plug, or a slave

      achew
      'scuse me

      • Schedule function is nice but you still should stir it abit as the water hits the bed for best results

    • Me too. Kicking myself that I didn’t buy one at Amazon’s $200 introductory price!

Thanks OP, grabbed one. I'd been looking at the glass carafe version for a while now but felt ~$450 was just a bit too much. $300 for the thermal carafe version is a good deal. Now just need to find a decent grinder to go with it.

I have one. Was a present from my coffee roasting brother. Love it! Mine is the silver Thermos jug model.

Perfect for morning coffees, lunch coffees and any time of day coffees.

I picked one of these up brand new off a bloke on Gumtree who got it as a wedding gift for $250 about 10 months ago.
Brilliant, Will never go back to another drip coffee maker - and from the build quality will probably never need to do so.

    Also postage?

      Amazon prime free postage

    • I believe if the item cost is over a certain amount, you are entitled to free postage. This appears to qualify for both amazon, and amazon prime members

The carafe version is way better than the glass for keeping it hot

    • Sometimes I forget about the coffee and come back 2hrs later. Orange light still on. Oh yeah I made coffee!
      STILL HOT!

I bought one for ~$400 locally in Melbourne (Proud Mary cafe, who threw in 1kg of coffee beans and a lovely welcome pack) at the beginning of COVID lockdown.

Absolutely love it. It's paid for itself already (incl. machine, beans, filters, etc). It's been hard to find Harris coffee filters so I bought the 100x Technovorm filters from Amazon US.

For those debating glass carafe or thermos, when I did my research I found the thermos to be the superior choice. It holds the heat very well, allows you to safely sit on counters or travel with.

It's also better economically than a heat pad and the glass carafe is very expensive & unique to replace - both of which mean a thermos will be better if you've a cat or children.

*EDIT Since we've got some Moccamaster owners in here I'd love your OZB thoughts on filters and grind settings (Breville Smart Grinder Pro here - usually set to 'Filter' size of 50).

    • I have the same grinder, and would probably have used the same setting, too. What do you set your quantity to generally?

      • I’ve found that 4 cups is perfect for two of us as early morning start. If it’s a long day and delicious fresh beans, I’ll go to 6.

I’ve also found that 4 cups is consistently better tasting than a 6-8 cup. The reason is in 4 you’ll get all the grounds saturated and blooming nicely without having to let the water be closed or half for too long.

If you do larger brews, I would recommend you initially assist the water to drip to the outer edges by using a tool (I use my leftover Aeropress ladle which looks like a big flat dull knife).

I add two extra cups of water to start so that I can apply hot water to my paper filters. Eg a 4 cup coffee starts at the 6 line. Water from paper filter clean is poured into a seperate cup rather than the thermos.

I usually start my brews closed for half cup, then either open to half if it’s small or one cup then full if it’s large brew.

I stir once after it’s fully bloomed out, which is usually one half cups down. Stir with a non-metal spoon (metal does effect taste), gently on the surface about six times in one round.

        • Great advice in regards to mixing the beans once the water starts to drop. Never really thought of this but never thought it was an issue

        • The agitation with the spoon is important! Coarse to medium grind for this one

    • I've got a lelit with built in grinder. Seriously considering getting the Moccamaster KM4 coffee grinder to go with my new mocca. If anyone has one and can review it that would be awesome :)

      • Reviews are bad, might go a Baratza Encore instead

    • Yes! What's with the Harris filters being out of stock everywhere?!?

Setting 50 as well on Filter, I go 4 cups on the grinder setting to water level at about 5 for 2 cups of coffee to drink.

I will be following the comments as well. I have the same machine and love it!

Usually buy the aldi Brazil beans but ready for a change. Same grinder too but usually keep it on 43, 7 cups and on 6 for the water

    • Nice! I’ve been experimenting with finer numbers, down to 46 at the moment depending on the bean.

      What filters are you using?

      • I'm fairly new to making coffee so still learning, does the type of filter make much of a difference? I'm using on of those reusable gold tone filters.

  • tempted, but UK plug which is massive

  • Prices updated in line with recent expiry of previous 308/311 prices

Mine rocked up and just did a brew. My first impression was it's quite light and not as sturdy as I expected. Does a good coffee though

I'm still waiting on mine. "Delayed by weather" twice..
