You may not need to go in-store to price beat at Officeworks, they've been doing it over the phone for click and collect order recently.

Isn't Apple Watch SE a better value?

    • Agree

Not in my opinion. You get a second-rate heart rate monitor and no always-on display. The always-on display in the 5 is absolutely worth it.

      • Don’t know why people need always on display. You have to raise your wrist anyway to glance at your watch, and when you raise your wrist the display turns on whether you have always on display or not. So for me its more of a nice to have feature but not worth paying extra for it. Thats my opinion.

eg. while driving, you can glance at the time, and not having to take your hands away from the wheel.
i'm sure there are many other use cases. it's an individual preference.

@slowmo: Don’t you use you car clock? That’s what I have always done, much safer.

@fozzie: I think you missed the bit I said “e.g” and “many other use cases”

You can’t use the ECG in Australia. Apple Watch has almost everything you need except the always on compared to series 5

      • 2nd rate heart monitor? please explain?

    • Series 5 has always on screen and ECG (though not available in AUS yet) over the SE. So fairly comparable.

    • Quick comparison here
If you don't need ECG(which is not available in Australia anyway :/ ), cellular connection, always on display and varied case material options, SE is better value in this case

      • Cellular is available on the SE if you want it.

From my understanding watch se is a series 5 without always on display and ecg (which is not available in Australia anyway)

    • and $429 for the SE of the same config here (GPS only)

so you are essentially paying the difference for the always on display, and probably less watchos lifespan (maybe?)

    • So basically a Series 4 sans ECG?

      • In addition, SE has a digital compass and 32GB storage instead of 16GB in S4.

  • Yea definitely recommend getting the SE over this for much better value

    • no always on, no buy

As a series 2 owner, there’s plenty of times where I can see the watch face without deliberately raising my watch to trigger the display to turn on. By apples own admission the gestures a very deliberate one. I see a solid black LCD quite frequently where I could otherwise see a watch face.

I’ve lived without it, but the same way as people might like to use FaceID on an iPhone without being face on, an always on display allows the time in a watch to be glanced without position the watch to be front on to the user.

  • At this price you can get the SE version with cellular, the comparison price should be about $450 for the 5 without cellular and $550 at most with cellular. The clearance price is not cheap enough yet.

as SE doesnt have always on display, it actually last longer on battery. so for someone who doesnt actually value the always on display, the SE is actually a plus for longer battery hour.

    • Has that been shown yet? They could have a smaller battery in the SE. I don’t think that’s likely, but it could happen.
