  • This or a Ryzen 7 3700x?

    • +1

Wait till end of october. 3700x might drop in price, or zen 3 might blow it out the water. The rumours are good.

    • +2

Get this. I believe the only real Ryzen 7 cpu that is comparable (especially for gaming purposes and single core applications) is the 3700XT. This is a seriously good cpu, rated 5/5 on guru3d. Obviously the 3700x is extremely good too, so it's not a loss on your part at all either way. big downside: need a new z490 motherboard which will cost a minimum of 300.

OzBeez, Just checked eBay. If you guys have eBay Plus using the PIP10 code you can get the 10700K for $539.10
Be quick - can only see 2 available.

    • Gaming? This easily

  • +7

So tempting, holding out to see what zen 3 is all about in a few weeks

    • the new ryzen 7 may outperform the i7 10700K/F due to the new tech from the XT series that boosted single core performance.

      • yea. never have in the past. not about to start lol

  • is this better than the 3700x? does it comes with a stock cooler

    • +1

Depends on what you want to use it for, This likely better for gaming but the 3700x is better overall (EDIT) and you wont be looked into he old mother boards with the 3700x

I don't believe there is a stock cooler with this. but don't let that sway you as you would likely buy an after market cooler for either chip.

      • +1

Unlikely that you will buy an aftermarket cooler with the 3700x. The 3700x, stock Wraith Prism cooler is good quality and comparable to a Cooler Master Hyper 212. If you do wish to buy an aftermarket cooler, you could sell the Prism on Ebay use that money towards a better cooler. They seem to go on Ebay between $30 to $50 unused. I have sold mine for $40 on Ebay when I switched to a custom loop.

      • you can get a good air cooler for like 50-60 bux on amazon, dont worry about the cooler.

    • +2

Retail box does not include fan, heatsink or thermal paste.

      • thanks, yea i wasnt sure.

      • just stating the obvious that the i7 doesn't include the above so need to folk these out. for thermal paste id go with kryonaut for performance and ease of application.

    • I switched to AMD this year and I won't be going back to intel anytime soon. Such better value for money and performance is great too. Can't wait for the new AMD chips to come out next month so I can upgrade from my 3600.

this is a great price. i bought my KF for 590. with water cooling, runs easily 5.3Ghz all cores and 50*C; just a crazy good chip.

    • What cooler u recommend?

      • +1

i'm using a large one (3 fans blowing on a long radiator) nzxt kraken x73 and used a corsair h150i pro - both are excellent that keep it at 28-30*C at idle (at any Ghz). if not overclocking then honestly i'd just go with a real basic air fan one (probably double sided) like one of those cooler master ones for like 50 bux that blows air on both sides or a cheap all-in-one (AIO) water cooler one (1 fan blowing on a short radiator) for like 100 or so.

For those purely gaming, i'd urge you to buy the 10600K/KF instead. You will see the smallest of performance gains when comparing the 10600K and 10700K paired with a 2000/3000 series GPU. If you are gaming above 1080p you will see almost nothing in performance to justify the cost. As for AMD vs Intel, Intel single core has always been better, I doubt Zen 3 will change that and single core performance is what games need. You will not be dissapointed with the 10600K for the price for many years to come.

Better to buy the i5-10600K and pair it with a highly rated Noctua @ $150 or so than buy the i7-10700K and stick your old stock intel fan on it.

For those who are looking for a new chip for productivity, 3D render, video editing, CAD, etc this is a great price but i'd wait for Zen 3.

    • yeah 6c/12t works fine for gaming.

also wait for 8th Oct when AMD announces Zen 3

    • yeah, i second this. i wouldn't hesitate with the 10600K, it's insanely good when overclocked, so close to the i7 and i9. for cpu-oriented gaming titles where gpu isn't as important like rainbow 6 / csgo / doom or when playing on low settings then id go with i7 or i9 as it will give more frames. for 2k/4k gaming, 10600k for sure.

      • Is it worth overclocking? doesnt the power consumption go through the roof?

        • +1

I think with the 10900k yes and less so with i7. If I calculate the wattage of power used then I can let u know. Average temps I get at 5.3ghz is 55*C which is great. I’m not sure if there’s a way to convert from *C to heat output wattage plus other variables to power wattage.

          • @yoke2018: Thanks for that. I'm more keen on Intel as I play games. I've heard amd can be a bit picky with ram etc and I'd like to avoid that. 10600k getting better on price. I'd just prefer 8 cores if I build now which I why the 10850k was looking good @ $650

            • @PlagueistheCheap: The 10850k was 599, it may come down to 550 or even 500 when zen 3 comes out. I’ll be switching to i9 even though i7 is excellent. Contrary to popular belief, all 8 cores get used in games especially CPU bound titles. Albeit, the rate of increase decreases towards a plateau after about 10 cores or so. And hyper threading is not superior for fps output compared to using just the 8-10 core cpus.

    • Yeah I got the 10600 for gaming rig. It's great and overclocks easily, but still this is a good price for the i7.

  • Damn i purchased this for 559 recently. Still unopened. Wonder if its worth returning under their 30 days policy and saving $50

    • What's the return postage cost with insurance? I got burned by AusPost with a lost parcel and no Extra Cover - never sending something expensive without insurance again lol.

      • Only $100 gets covered which is crap for something expensive
