    • There's no castles in Sheffield where Dominic West is from it's like a run down Wollongong without the sea

Best bit of sheff is the 2 dollar triple vodka and iron bru 50ml measures at that.. in the rock bars it's so far from Eton it's unreal.

      • With a name like Dominic Gerard Francis Eagleton West and with a father who owned a plastics factory, he certainly wouldn't have spent time on the shop floor

West's current wife is a Irish aristo with a family castle

  • Really great show. The ending is good, it just makes sense.

  • iTunes? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • A proposition for you!

  • Hi guys,
Haven't used iTunes before but love the wire!
I have a Sony (android TV) I'd want to watch it on.
    2 questions:
    1. Would I just download the iTunes app (does this exist?) for android and then login?
    2. What resolution is the quality? It says HD so I'm assuming it's 1080p

    Thanks!

    • @hotpants
I am sorry no one has bothered to come to your party to assist you… the following posts make this thread look like something out of FaceBook… off-topic and completely irrelevant as far as the o/p and your post are concerned.

Anyway, either a resident troll is going to jump in and burn me or a kind soul may fill in the gaps or correct my post in need.

Personally, I choose not to participate with Apple or related products for reasons I won't divulge here.

There has been an ongoing battle between Google, Apple and Amazon for a few years now when each others products and services that have been in direct competition with each others products have not been made available on the opposition's platform (e.g. try buying an Apple iPhone at Amazon.com.au). About 18 months ago Amazon and Google have settled some of their differences making things easier between them, but Apple is still out in the cold.

As for your Sony Android TV, the inbuilt Google Play store app, like the standard Google Play store, does not have apps for either iTunes or Apple TV.

As for the quality of the conversion of this TV show to HD this link:
      https://www.techhive.com/article/2854439/hbo-remastered-the-…

has been posted elsewhere in this thread and is worthwhile reading as it is ultimately a subjective decision whether it is a good conversion or not.

These HD conversion of old standard definition 4:3 aspect ratios TV shows (particularly if filmed on videotape and not film stock) have been controversial and the jury is still out as to whether the conversion has been beneficial or not considering that the oriiginal production team has constructed the film/tv show with only a 4:3 aspect ratio in mind.

I recently viewed Stanley Kubrick's "Full Metal Jacket" in a Remastered original aspect ratio (4:3) Theatrical release (the Director's preferred version) because the director had constructed the scenes to match what a news film cameraman would be viewing on the battlefield which would be later viewed on peoples' TV at home when they were watching the news. The later released "wide-screen" version looked bloody awful imho.

There are also plenty of videos on YouTube showing the faults of the HD digital conversion of "Seinfeld" and how much gets 'lost' during the process. I suspect you could also find as many videos about "The Wire".

The other options you could consider would be:

      1. AppleTV if you have no objections to the limitations of that device and that it locks you into Apple's 'walled garden' vertical product integration of products and services. At least you can attached it to your Sony TV.

      2. Purchase the DVD or Blu-ray box sets, which with a keen eye, may be picked up for the same or cheaper price as this deal. Remember this deal is only a "license to use" the digital content which dies when you do or Apple does, whichever comes first. You cannot transfer or resell this purchase in any shape or form. At least with the DVDs/Blu-Rays you could keep forever, re-sell on eBay etc. if you no longer wanted to keep them. If you die at least your estate would own them.

I have the DVD box set myself and look fine in natural 4:3 aspect ratio on an up-scaled Blu-Ray player (without zooming in). As a part of my library, my will's beneficiaries get to own them and do what they want with them. The $59.99 you would spend on this deal is once only and gone forever.

      • Thanks mate.
Not sure why you got downvoted but I appreciate the response and it answers my questions.
        Thank you!

I think I might grab it now because my partner's never seen it then look for the BluRay later :)

    • I use a small pc. It's also available on amazon fire stick, Roku…

  • Not the greatest deal ever, but it's The Wire.

As the Blu-Ray's aren't available locally as well, this is one of the few ways to watch it HD unless you import from Zavvi or the UK.

    • Yes, they were! Seems to be sold out!

  • Microsoft does not approve ಠʖಠ
    Google does not approve ʕಠ
    ಠʔ
    Amazon does not care (⌐■-■)

  • Awesome show, highly recommend!

  • Is this show excessively violent?

    • well it is 2020 so yes.

    • Wouldn’t say excessively. It’s very realistic and tries to represent the Baltimore drug scene, gangs, police force as best as possible.
