I've been waiting for some good washing machine sales, but they seem to have dried up lately.

In particular I’ve been waiting for the Bosch WAW28460AU to come back on sale but with my machine on its last legs I had to purchase something today.

Looking around there weren’t many deals but then I came across this one at Bing Lee which also had decent reviews on Product Review (https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung-ww85k5410w…). I know that Product Review isn’t the gospel on this but its reassuring that it didn’t have heaps of negative reviews.

Don’t forget Cash Rewards 3% if purchasing via Bing Lee website.

As I needed immediate delivery (delivering on Monday) I went via Appliances Online and they price matched. https://www.appliancesonline.com.au/product/samsung-ww85k641…

They said Had and not Has, Had is past tense so they don't have it anymore but used to

        • Yeah I understand it was a past price, I'm just highlighting their current price but thank-you. I've also added a cheaper price into the listing for those in Sydney Metro. Cheers

  • Does this machine have a belt instead of direct drive?

    • According to specs it uses a Digital Inverter Motor.

      • Digital Inverter just means brushless motor, still uses a belt.

      • Yeah it will still have the tradirional belt drive and bearing.

My samsungs bearing is complaining loudly after 7 years hard use. It has been great for a sub $400 machine. But for more than double the price i want something that will last longer than that. My previous whirlpool also lasted 7 years before bearing failure.

The LG frontloaders claim to be direct drive. I might try one of those instead of the traditional design again.

        • Samsung used to follow LG in making direct drive washers and I bought one years ago and it is still going strong. I would definitely get a LG direct drive next time around. Direct drive washer is so quiet and washes well.

Unfortunately Samsung washers tend to be one of the most unreliable. I wish we'd see a Bosch deal.

Yeah, my Samsung blew up a few weeks ago (granted, 6 years old) so I was hesitant to buy another and shelled out for the Bosch.

Name reputation is worth so much in this space, Samsung should have invested more in reliability years ago and it would pay off now.

    • Unfortunately Samsung washers tend to be one of the most unreliable.

Currently using a Bosch washer (2 years old). My previous one was a Samsung which lasted only 8 years. In the 8 years, the motherboard failed three (3) times. First motherboard failure was exactly three years in and got replaced under Samsung warranty. 2nd time was a week shy of the 6th year and was covered under our extended warranty.
The third failure and Samsung refused to repair it (goodwill) so we opted to get a Bosch because a lot of people raved about them.

My point is this: Anyone planning to get a Samsung washer &/or dryer need to seriously consider purchasing an extended warranty from the vendor.

      Hope this helps.

    • Yep when I got a washer about 6 months ago salesperson was saying the amount of Samsung returns and warranty repairs is the most out of any brand they stock by far.

I find anything Samsung to be unreliable,
in the last 2 years I had a 2 year old Samsung fridge die (a week before Christmas)
A 4 year old Samsung LED TV, the top half went dark and was unwatchable
Samsung Phone has been in for repair 3 times (in the last 12 months) and is STILL faulty.

      • That's what happens when a company spends more on advertising and marketing than R&D and manufacturing for the actual products. They're known as Scamsung for a reason :)

Don't forget that from 2010 to 2015, some models of Samsung washing machines had a tendency to catch fire.

      Affected models are:

      • SW75V9WIP
      • SW65V9WIP
      • SW70SPWIP
      • SW80SPWIP
      • WA85GWGIP
      • WA85GWWIP

Samsung Top Loader Washing Machine Safety Recall
Fire hazard warning over Samsung washing machines
Urgent recall issued on 'dangerous' top-loading Samsung washing machines
Problems with replacement Samsung washing machines
According to CHOICE magazine, the replacement models (WA80F5G4DJW & WA85J6750SW) also had issues:
where the machines let off smoke and a burning plastic smell, resulting in the top plastic rim of the machine being melted

      • Apart from catching fire, and motherboards dying every 3 years these washers are great!

(Worst brand washers money could buy, stay well clear!)

  • I was thinking to buy that model but the mixed reviews about Samsung washing machines in general is putting me off.

For those in Sydney it is also available for $838 with free delivery for Sydney, Wollongong and Central Coast at Powerland (on their site and ebay store).

It comes up as well on the Samsung EPP for $849 - $50

  • Came across this, which will be 1160 delivered. (TGG 15% off tomorrow at Ebay https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/570487 and this is german made Bosch)
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Bosch-WAW28440AU-9kg-Front-L…

Have heard some great things about new Bosch models. This one has direct drive I believe (or some sort of silent drive).

Our 10yo old Bosch just refuses to die even after it's been through multiple moves. Will definitely replace with another Bosch(possibly this)

I'll never buy another samsung washer; It's the only washer I've ever had that always smells moldy.
We've tried many, many different things to resolve it to no avail. It was never a problem with the old F&P or whatever came before that…

I suppose I should be satisfied that it didn't burst into flames.

I suppose Samsung never had a washing machine "fire" sale.
