After owning the EKO QLED TV I've been converted, QLED is great technology.

I wish these Android TV's would start mentioning the processing chips used.

    • does it matter?

      please explain

      • +6

different chips offer different performance of android tv. Some tv's are slow others are fast and snappy

        • I mean does it improve picture quality.

eg Cpu A 4k quality vs Cpu B 4k quality

      • It's particularly important for running various streaming services.

      • +1

I think I also read somewhere it matters if you watch non 4k content (Full HD blu ray, free to air), as the processor also manages how good the upscale to 4K is.

isn't it better to buy a Vodafone TV For $70 or a new chromecast (Google TV for $99) As these will get updates for years, especially google

      • The EKO TV from Big W is super snappy and has Android TV 9.0 + 4K Chrome Cast I hope it gets 10.

        • Judging by the picture, and interface, I'd say it is the same firmware as the EKO

        • android tv has casting built-in not additional

      • Does anyone have a link for this? Because Vodafones website is strangely giving me no results.

        • Seems like it has been removed

          • @catbarf: Just saw elsewhere, taken down, reps at Vodafone stores are saying "once its gone, its gone."

Some stores have stock, some don't.

      • You can't watch 4k with a chromecast if you don't have 4k TV plus chromecast is included in pretty much every TV now anyway

      • VFT does not have native support for Amazon Prime (unfortunately)

        • Correct, though side loading the app is pretty easy and works great. Not for everyone though.

          • @Mitch889: Prime Video was updated recently and now supports profiles. Is there a new apk of this, and can someone provide a link?

            • +1

              @scupper: I’ll take a look when I get home.

I don’t use AP much on my VTV but my mother in law does all the time.

            • +1

@scupper: Install Aptoide TV on your TV and update it from there. Its like an appstore

    • QLED isn't a technology, it's a marketing gimmick Samsung came up with in an attempt to compete with LG's OLED technology.

      • +2

So OLED is a technology but QLED which is an imitation of OLED isn't a technology? Could you explain that one.

        • +7

OLED is a fundamentally different technology.

The “QLED” TVs aren’t substantially different from a regular LED backlit TV, but obviously create confusion for the consumer since the two look similar in print (but not in practice).

        • LCD is the technology. LED is the backlighting method. The comments speak for themselves:

        • +2

OLED = Each pixel emits its own LED light and colour.
QLED = SAME as every other LCD TV and PC Monitor with an LCD panel and LED Backlight but with an added layer on the LCD to improve colours and brightness.

LG Nano Cell is another layer added to LCD to improve colours and contrast of their IPS LCD panels

Next year Samsung, TLC and a bunch of other companies are bringing Q-OLED TV's to market

QOLED = Each pixel emits its own LED light and colour with more brightness then standard OLED

How does this compare to similarly priced TVs like Hisense S8 or TCL P715?

    • +1

I would put all 60Hz VA panel TV's in the same basket. :) 120Hz VA are a little better but not much.

I have a 2015 - LG 65UF850T 120Hz IPS TV and motion looks 100 times better then my friends 2020 Samsung QLED 4K Q80T TV … i don't care what people say… motion on ALL VA panels both TV and PC has noticeable ghosting.

I can see it with my own eyes… the ghosting is there on all VA panels VS IPS, TN or OLED

For people who have never compared IPS and OLED TV's side by side with VA TV's they would never know the difference and think 120Hz high end VA TV's are fine but i see it right away.

      • The only problem with your LG is DSE. Especially in darker scenes. But an awesome TV for it's time.

    • I'd sooner go with a hisense or tcl as they both manufacture their own panels (as do Sony, lg and Samsung) .

Most other brands Hitachi, JVC, Blaupunkt are primarily branding companies….. Licencing their name to generic TV manufacturers.

  • Is this TV any good?

I have a Samsung TV which is 7 years old. I now use it with an Apple TV 4K stb. Images are Cristal clear after I started using this Apple TV with that. Wanting to go for a 4K TV. But there is not enough content.

  • Here's everything you need to know on buying a new Hitachi TV

If you can remember anything about the TV industry in 2012, one thing that probably doesn't stick out is the news that Japanese tech manufacturer Hitachi would stop producing TVs. No-one is expected to remember that, particularly because Hitachi has long been one of the industry's less popular manufacturers. The firm had just one manufacturing plant left in Japan before it closed in September 2012, and even then, this was a rather small-scale factory, churning out around 100,000 sets a month.

As this is the case, you might be asking how it's still possible to buy Hitachi TV sets today, and why we are writing this article about them. Well, despite being a small player in the market, after the closure of the factory in 2012, Hitachi outsourced all of its TV production to third-party manufacturers.

    • Yep. Just another once famous reputable brand name slapped on a generic TV.

  • reviews are hit and miss

  • goodguys video preview

  • Yesterday kids smashed my old 55" "ambilight" Philips so I bought Hitachi as cheap "temporally" TV.
It is good and fast TV but I already missed ambilight (((

  • Is there somewhere I can compare how “snappy” a tv is, I hate hate hate my Hisense tv and want to make sure I buy something that can turn on in a reasonable timeframe

Who ended up buying this TV? Any good?
