How are you not using 60 bags in a year? And if you are, why would you use regular plastic over this?

      • Im surprised by this too.
Do you not go through 60 bags? That’s like half the year for me I reckon.

        • mine does it 90% of the time at home which i then put it in the compost bin :s

        • +1

How often do you walk your dog? With our two dogs we go through 60 in about 3 to 4 weeks…

          • @FlamedTofu: have one dog and walk him to the park at least once a day.
he normally does it at home before or straight after walk.

        • +4

We have 2 dogs and walk them every day. I go thru 2 - 5 bags a day.

    • These bags degrade over time with just water/moisture alone, and 1 year seems about right. Our LCA uses them for green bin waste.

You could probably get shelf life >12 months if you store them in an airtight container away from sunlight.

    • Bit harsh on the negs.
Its worth checking if these do have an expiry date, cant think of much worse than having them fall apart as you're picking up your dogs business.

  • Dog poop can be compost?

    • +3

it can be but please make sure not to compost it when they just have their worming tablet

      • +1

And don't use this compost on anything edible.

        • Always wondered the difference between chook poo vs dog as a compost?
Put the dogs gifts on the roses (absolute bloom) to be safe.

          • @tunzafun001: There's different bacterial depending on what the animal ears. An animal that eats grain and grass is the safe sort for general compost use. Not meat, etc like dogs and us.

            • @bmerigan: But chickens are omnivores..like us and the dogs. People love putting chook poo on their veggie gardens?

              • @tunzafun001: Hmm, well there's clearly some difference in bacteria. Chook poo doesn't smell anywhere near as bad as human and dog.

    cheaper than the plastic ones.

This is the kind of pricing needed to invoke real outcomes to reduce climate change.

    • I’m guessing the person who negged this comment votes Lib?

      • +5

Knowing the Liberal government, they'll probably start subsidising plastic bags

    • More people need to buy this stuff so the prices drop and more businesses start using it. As mentioned below, they have a whole range of bags. The supermarket range is terrible, with the slightly better but still not very good ethanol based plastic bags.

  • So I can just throw these in the compost bin (when not deworming as mentioned above)?

    • +6

Don't put it in standard compost. Do some googling to find out what works for you, but you can get our easily make worm towers that are just tubes or buckets with holes in them buried in the ground that Earth worms can move in and out of, or you can get bacterial starter kits.

Whether you compost the poo or not it's better to use compostable bags over plastic just to reduce plastics. Best to compost, but if you can't compost it's still better to have compostible bags in the landfill than plastic bags that will create microplastics.

      • +2

I'll just throw them in the normal garbage then.

  • -3

I've been looking for something I can throw in the creek on my dog walks. Thanks OP.

    • really hope you're joking

      • +4

Yes. Just find it "funny" at the number of dog shit bags thrown into bushes and behind fences. Why not just leave the turd there and not bother at all.

        • +1

There’s a lovely rainforest path near where I live that is just leaf litter, not concreted or anything. The amount of plastic bags with dog poop that people just throw into the bush is disgusting. Just leave the poop there to break down naturally instead of the plastic bag that will never degrade >:-(

  • +1

Big fan if this brand, Use it for garbage bags and compost bin bags as well (they only sell these via their site)

  • +4

Thanks OP my hands were getting smelly

    • +3

You don't use a knife and fork? You savage!

  • Can't get these delivered online to my area, but good bargain for those who can get it! Kmart also sells these for $5 if you ever want to get them when they're not on sale.

    • -1

      lingk

    • Mine said not available for delivery in my postcode, but click and collect was available at my closest sure 6. Have no idea why…

  • +1

Good find, Don't forget the 3.5% cashback with cash rewards :)

  • "Out of stock for your delivery area"

  • +1

Don’t most dog parks have free poo bags?

    • I wish my three nearest dog parks did! I'm already lucky that they have bins to put my dog poo in, haha.

    • You're assuming everyone walks their dog at parks.

      • Or he meant grab a bunch of free poo bags from the park

        • Why would that be appropriate?

    • 33 cents to save walking over to the thing. Also what if your dog poops on the way to the park, just cradle the poop in your hands until you get to the park?

  • Are these suitable for cat poo?

    • +5

No, the chemical reaction between cat poo and these bags is explosive and violent, will blow your hand clean off if you try.

  • Damn this is a great price. Just bought significantly more exxy…

Very good bags, good for the environment. Nice!

  • Will these work with human shit?

    • +5

If you can get your dog to follow you and pick up your poop and put it in a bag…can't see why not.

  • +1

Don't put in your compost bin if you use it on your garden, just put it in the green bin(garden waste).
These would probably be good in my kitchen for the food scraps, then I could just throw the whole bag in my compost bin.

    • +1

They do sell them, that's what i do. They sell compost sized bags on their website (I swear I'm just a customer).

      • Cheers. Prob not this cheap though.

        • Nope but still reasonable. $13 for 75 bags.

I've been actively removing as much plastic out of my life as possible, so the price, imo, isn't restrictively expensive.

    • +1

Make sure you check your local council's website for what is allowed. Mine does not allow pet poo.

I'm guessing most other councils would also not allow it.

      • +1

        Our local council allows it.(SA)

"Animal waste can be placed in the green organics bin if left loose, wrapped in newspaper or bagged in compostable bag supplied by your council. Please only use compostable bags if placing pet waste in the green organics bin."

  • Btw cheers OP, just ordered 3 packs c&c.

  • no stock in Vic for pick up

    • Some showing near me, regional.

    • +1

Fountain Gate has… If ur near the SE…

      • thanks
        Too far for me

  • I wonder how long Pet Barn will hold a click and collect ….

There's stock nearish to me but it's 10km away…. I dunno if I can justify going outside my Bubble for poo bags… :/

  • Don't need to get up between warzone games now.. sweet

  • Thanks OP. Plenty available for C&C in South Brisbane.

  • I usually just use this:
    https://www.rejectshop.com.au/p/tesco-nappy-bags-300pk
    At $3.00 for 300, I couldn’t find anything else that is cheaper…

    • +4

The whole point of these bags is that they break down easily….

The Tesco ones would be plastic and thus don't breakdown..

  • Picked up 5 packets at 1.99

  • Got my email saying ready to collect :) ordered 3x

  • thanks OP, perfect for my mother in law

  • picked up my qty 4 with click and collect today. For a product focussed on being environmentally friendly, there's a lot of packaging! Each 60 bags comes on 4 tiny separate rolls.
Can't complain about the price but it's hard to understand how the design came about.

    • My guess is that they're designed to fit on a dispenser with a cardboard core.
What I don't understand is the plastic packaging that comes with it.

      • Might be Petbarn doing or requiring that. I've ordered from them directly in the past and they post in a satchel made of the same material, and the labelling has just been paper.
