Long time lurker, first time poster (be nice!). Was looking at one of these to replace my LP60. Much cheaper than anything in local stores, which also only have the silver model. Much prefer the look of this one. Looking forward to the audiophile discussions/rants below!

  • I remember about 15 years ago, was too cheap to buy a Technics 1200, so got a $500 one, couldnt even sell it to a bedroom DJ due to the rise of CD.
Wish I just spent the extra and kept it, wouldnt lost any money. But its a different climate now due to vinyl revival and hipster stuff.

You mean 25 years ago right? Either that or you meant to say MP3, not CD :) I'm at the other extreme of your Turntable situation though, I've got so many I'm not sure why or what to do with them. They're such a pain to safely store long-term so I think I'd better start offloading a few but I need to restore them first.

    • I know those feels. I bought American DJ cd decks… cost me a bomb.. worth nothing at all shortly after. Should have just bought SL1200s and spent a grand on Vinyl… would be no worse off :p

  • Not the cheapest price ever, but a good deal nonetheless for a pretty solid player.

Bear in mind there is no auto-return on this one, so if you're someone who could leave the house with a record playing, may not be a good buy for you. does have a pre-amp though, so good for a first-time player.

Never imagined PCCaseGear would stock turntables! This is the 120X model btw.

Bought this the other week and have been pretty impressed so far. One thing to note is that it only came with an EU and UK plug for the universal power supply which I wasn't expecting. Amazon sent me out a free Korjo international adapter to resolve that once I explained this to them.

The LP120X is very similar in design to the old LP120 but it seems they are catering more to critical listening by ditching some DJ-centric features.
Notable changes (both good and bad) include:

    • Improved included cartridge (AT-VM95E)
    • Preamp improved and complete preamp bypass is now possible without removing it
    • Power supply is now external so theoretically less noise
    • Much thinner body and a little bit lighter, I think because they removed the big steel plate
    • Lower torque motor which makes it a lot quieter but also means playback start/stop is slower and the reverse playback function is gone
    • Antiskate works properly (fixed in 2017 and beyond LP120 models)
    • No tonearm height adjustment

I was given a vinyl as a gift recently. What benefits typically happen as the price gets higher? (eg as price goes from 100 to 400)

Differences in costs of Turntables? It's all about spinning the LP as smoothly and accurately as possible without adding noise or vibration in the process then getting that tiny needle to vibrate as accurately as it can in the groove then convert those tiny vibrations into delicate electrical signals. Each of those aspects can be done to an 'acceptable' level in a unit costing a couple/few hundred dollars but for added/extra cost each or all of them can be improved. It's then up the individual whether they get value from those improvements.

  • To be honest? Just buy this one from a reputable brand and save your money. You don't need an expensive audiophile turntable unless you're addicted to vinyl.

yea for that money I'd rather go something like this

  • Anyone have any ideas if the Sony PS-LX310BT Turntable w/ Bluetooth is any good? Its going for about $389. To be honest so I have no idea about turntables but I am stuck between these two. -__-

The Sony looks to be made for simplicity & convenience. No adjustability available at all! This AT has all the traditional adjustability but of course no automatic 'anything' so you really need to stand in front of it to start & finish each LP. Very different beasts built for different purposes.

Good find… I was checking out the price for this model and the new, more expensive model Audio-Technica AT-LP120xBTUSB (which has both Bluetooth and USB connections, as well as analogue RCA plugs) a few days ago.

On offer here is the cheaper Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB Direct-Drive Turntable (Analogue (RCA plug) & USB connections). As this is the model sourced from Amazon UK, the price offered here @ AUD405.41 converts well from GBP238.95 after removal of 20% VAT, add back of 10% GST, customs & shipping, this is an excellent price, +/- a buck or two. Compared with the Amazon US price of USD249.00, adjusted for GST, customs and shipping it comes out around AUD391 (plus shipping). Don't forget this device will ship with UK & European ac plugs.

If you are not into serious audiophile purity etc, the Pro-ject links cited above in this thread MAY be overkill for your purposes. I do not know of your circumstances.

I have had over eight years of radio broadcasting and sound studio experience. Audio sound is a purely subjective and individual thing and would be best tested by your own listening experience. If you have the opportunity, 'try before buy', although that is difficult with online purchasing.

I still have my early 80's Dual and Denon T.T's working perfectly until they will eventually die (they may even outlive me). They still tick all the boxes. However, I have been thinking of moving some of my precious vinyl to preserve the records and instead listen in a digital format (FLAC) via my NAS server. This device might be an ideal candidate with the USB direct connection to my PC.

Since you are already familiar with the more basic LP60, this would make a nice upgrade without too much damage on your wallet. The more expensive BT model is hard to secure at the moment due to global demand.

  • Looking at one of the Audio-Technica turntables that has bluetooth for my speaker set up, are they any good? I am pretty limited in that regard that it needs bluetooth, but I am not limited to brands.

Its either something like this with BT, like the LP60, or I could get something like the mbeat Hi-Fi Bluetooth Turntable Player MB-PT-18M. Are mbeat reputable?

    FWIW It's now at $386.75 (https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B07MVY92KZ)

The cartridge and head is worth at least $109 (https://www.mannys.com.au/audio-technica-atvm95eh-dual-movin…), so pretty decent deal I reckon.

I was looking for my first record player and this deal came along at the perfect time. Thanks for the great find!
