Staub Cast Iron Round Cocotte 24cm 3.8L $199.99 (in Store) or $208.99 (Delivered) @ Costco (Membership Required)

110

This Staub cast iron round cocotte has a 3.8 litre capacity and comes with a heavy, tight fitting, flat lid that features self-basting spikes for continuous, even distribution of juices throughout cooking. It intensifies flavours and retains the aromas and vitamins within the food, so it's moist and flavourful, and the interior black matte enamel finish requires little seasoning over time, and is more resistant to scratches and chips. Enamel cast iron is a traditionally strong material that's ideal for low heat cooking, and retains heat better than any other material.

  • I got the 20 cm last time on special just picked up that 24 cm now I need the 26 cm and 28cm to come to costco.

These things are not cheap even at this price but I'm finding them much better than my Bessemer pots just loving them.

  • Does this qualify as a OzB?

I stand to be corrected but I think Ops deal is a OzB deal if it's the same one as below David Jones's listing. This pricing is way out of my price range :)

    • It's exactly the same just a different colour

      • Fair enough. Up vote.

  • When they sell For Close to $600 normally most places still sell them for at least $300- $400. On special

And Costco today said they sell really quickly, and I've been trying to buy the set for a while and Costco is always the cheapest.

Constantly searching Oz bargain to see if someone's listed them on special.

  • They only had Red at North Lakes a fortnight or so ago.

  • What do you cook in this that makes it different from cooking in normal similarly sized stock pot?

    • +1

      Stewed meat without adding water.

I like to do slow braised roasts any slow cooking or even great just for cooking for an hour when you do chicken thighs they come out a lot more tender it's about the heat control there's no hotspots.

      Great for bread making.

Over time these pots become naturally non stick and become seasoned and provider a deeper flavour it's hard to explain.

If they're probably looked after they should last a lifetime and be handed down to your children. beautiful to cook in and serve, if you don't do a lot of cooking these may not be the pots for you.

It's a bit like why would you buy KitchenAid, when you can buy a cheap mixer. There good pots and you could buy cheaper pots but over a lifetime you buy a lot more cheap pots then a few good pot.

  • I saw there are stocks in Costco Docklands on Monday(5 Oct), but not sure about now.

  • thing to note about stab, they have little dimples on the underside of the lid, idea is condensation runs runs down the dimples rather than to the edge and down the side of the pot so that water droplets cover all over the meat ….. a feature my aldi one has (staub copy ) but not chasseur or creuset.

Personally I think these from Amazon UK are better in term of price comes with a steamer insert.

    • Thanks will have a good look at that actually because it's the next size up that would end up being my most-used pot.
