Great price, though folk need to be aware a new model is coming:

    Price in title please…

    • Sorry about that jv.

      Fixed now.

      • is there a shipping cost ?

    • +2

'please'? 'please?, what has thou done with the real JV?

  • 195-25=170 oh OK now i dont have to click on link to see the price

    • I assume there is a shipping cost too, or is shipping free ???

      • Shipping will be based on state.

        VIC: $16.95
        NSW: $16.95
        SA: $16.95
        TAS: $22.95
        QLD: $22.95
        WA: $29.95
        NT: $29.95

Per unit and then half as much again, per subsequent unit.

        • I have one of these units - really well made and reliable software, but I can't recommend them at this price. This is the regular price these days, and considering a new model is coming out, I am almost going to give this a negative at this price. Not a bargain warcom, sorry.

fyi, mwave will be having a "One Hour Only" sale on the 15th Nov, 2pm-3pm aedt for these. Indications are they will be under $175 + postage (comes up free when I checked earlier for 1-3day delivery)

    • +6

you can buy them now at that price….

      http://www.mwave.com.au/sku-30060234-NETGEAR_ReadyNAS_Duo_RN…

      $175 delivered

      • Actually you're right, and with free postage it's cheaper than this warcom deal ($170 + $15 postage).

      • You would expect people on OzBargain would be rational enough to spend $11 to avoid the headaches with mwave.

    • Yeah I know about that as well, I have a feeling with w/e delivery charges (if any) will be probably around $160.

    • +1

i refuse to ever purchase anything ever again from mwave… purchase at your own risk if you ever need to return anything…

      • +1

I've purchased from Mwave on a number of occasions, never had a problem. Tell me your story please

ACCC gave em' a slap on the wrist for breaching the Trade Practices Act (now called the Australian Consumer Law)
          http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/918525?pag…

Since then they've changed their policies, but even right now when it comes to warranty and returns, if they find that the item that you've sent back is not faulty, they will charge you a $50 "restocking" fee. Regardless of how much the item costs.

          To quote their service-bot:

A service fee of UP TO $50 is charged ONLY when a product is found not to be faulty ie. the fault cannot be replicated by either our test bench or the supplier/manufacturer. Therefore the service would vary depending on the value of the product as well as time spent on testing the faulty product.

        • :/ eek..

        • Good ACCC link. Now I know my rights when buying from an online.

        • The ACL (Australian Consumer Law) came into effect in January this year. If you want to read more about it (and know about your rights as a consumer) head on to:

          http://www.consumerlaw.gov.au/content/Content.aspx?doc=the_a…

This document also provides additional information on consumer guarantees (AKA refunds).

        • Thanks. This is a good reference. May come handy one day.

You know Apple also charges a $50 fee on restocking as well, so please don't put your statements in a way to make sound uncommon.

        • so please don't put your statements in a way to make sound uncommon.

Lots of stores charge restocking fees, I'm not saying Mwave is the only one that does it.

What is different though is that Mwave may not test the product thoroughly enough. I was charged a $50 restocking fee on a GT430 GPU that was intermittently causing my machine to BSOD. In the end I went directly to the manufacuter to process the RMA and all was well.

        • Could it be driver problems or software problems rather than hardware problems? I find it hard to believe a graphics card could come faulty unless it just doesn't work at all. Now, what I am against is Mwave charges the user for return postage, they could be even overcharging postage and earning a profit from sending faulty goods.

      • Yeah, I heard about the horror service stories. It's keeping me away from mwave.

        • I have no problems so far from mwave.

        • There's always a first.

      • ah yeah I see where you're coming from…
They seem to have really mixed reviews… :/

    • Oops, all fixed.

Was it a slip up on the "a" by any chance aka Broden???

        (joking)

  • Reading reviews, seems to average 25MB/sec read, and 16MB/sec write. Sloooowwww in my opinion.

    • I usually get better than that with AFP on my mac. Its not as slow as you might think. Especially for a network time machine backup drive.

And unless you have a very fast dual band N wireless network, you are unlikely to get much faster speeds over wireless N.

      • I'm sure those rates are fast enough for some … isn't fast enough for me though. Not everyone does their transfers over Wireless. This is a wired unit with Gigabit Ethernet, but the CPU is too slow to take advantage of it. Even my portable USB 2.0 drive can read and write faster than that.
I think anything 40Mb/sec+ is worth a look at.
My HP Microserver which I have set up as a NAS with Ubuntu Linux gets 80Mb/sec on average (fluctuates between about 70 to 90). And that is with the parity calculations required for 5 drives running in RAID-6.
Having said that, 25 MB/sec isn't the worst speed I've seen. Most of the el-cheapo no-name NAS's transfer much much slower!

I recommend the Buffalo Quad NAS for around $250
Expandable to up to 4 disks + esata + USB
    Utorrent style client built in
    USB server
    Itunes/DLNA/Time Capsule
    Works with 3Tb Drives
    I get 42Megabytes/Sec Write (in raid 5)
    Iphone/Ipad Client
    http://www.ht.com.au/part/Y9054-Buffalo-LinkStation-Quad-NAS…

    • I've got one of the Buffalo ones and it doesn't have e-sata, unless there's a new model.

      • my mistake your right..

    • We can source buffalo also.

Happy to do a deal on them if there is enough interest.

      Thanks,
      Adam.

      • A fast (40MB/s+) NAS, with mac & pc support, with 2+ drive bays, for a good price. There will be plenty of interest. Qnap, buffalo, readynas, synology, Thecus any of those are reputable enough.

        • I had a qnap 209 and nothing but dramas with it, it lost it contents on more than one occasion.
bang for your buck its hard to beat the Buffalo

      • Any chance you can source hard drives at a decent price Warcom?

    • That's pretty good. My brother has the Synology DS211J and he gets around 40Mb/sec read. Not sure about write speed.

  • +1

    Why about Qnaps?

    • that's what i have… couldn't be happier… it's been up for over 6 months now and the only reason in rebooted back then was to upgrade firmware….

      • Which model do you have?

    • had a TS-409 and only just sold it to get a larger unit, never skipped a beat..id buy again. One issue if anything with them is the cost…they do updates to firmware constantly to give more support/stability which is what I look for in products.

  • Looked at these - superceded by a much better model i think from memory.

Regarding mwave - they are shonky company at best.

In regard to the ACL - the Accc don't support it, the States fair trading departments don't support it.

The only way to get the ACL enforced is to take it to Court yourself. Nothings changed - only the number of people who can 'see' the emperor's new clothes.

Never bought from Warcom that I remember so can't comment on them. Good luck online.

  • Whats the difference between this and this other deal- D-Link DNS-320 ShareCenter Pulse 2-Bay Network Storage $119.95?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55321

    • Dlink is poorly made and slower, and have heard many horror stories.

      • I have the original D-Link DNS-323 dual-bay NAS and I wouldn't call it poorly made. I get about the same speeds as this NetGear too (around 20MB/sec). It's been online for years, only time it's rebooted is when there is a power outage. But I cannot comment about the newer DNS-320 however.

  • can this be used as a external storage without raid? eg 2 external hdd?
and cant this be connected to a computer directly without being on the network?

    • can this be used as a external storage without raid? eg 2 external hdd?

It can be set up either with RAID, or as "JBOD" (Just a Bunch Of Disks). There is little point in halving storage capacity and reducing speed to do raid in a 2-bay device. It's actually easier and safer to just set up a cron job (auto backup) from one drive to another. Or not worry about it, and use a remove device for your backups.

This particular model has a configurable front button that can be set to "one touch backup"

cant this be connected to a computer directly without being on the network?

There's not much point paying for a Network Attached Storage device, and then not networking it. I suppose there is a way to connect via USB, although the USB ports (2 read, 1 front) are intended for printer, additional USB hard drive and backup drive. Not sure, you may need to hack the firmware to do that kind of thing.

      • thanks for the reply
im just looking for a way to reduce my external hdd cluster
and im running out of usb ports

  • Price match at OW?
