    Thanks bby.

  • Can these be used as pc speaker

    • +2

      yep

    • +1

Sure, one of their main uses

    • +1

I purchased the 2000's a year or two ago for this exact reason. Initially I tried 3.5mm to RCA cables but the speakers would pick up too much noise. However the bluetooth and toslink work fine. And the bluetooth has no noticable lag.

The 2000's are probably a bit overpowered when sitting 0.5m away. Although that means they also work well when standing 2m+ away. So these would be great for a smallish 32-40" TV setup. Decent enough bass for listening to music, albeit not enough for EDM.

I use receivers for gaming and movies. But these Edifier active speakers are perfect for the office.

      • Hey Rinco, I've been thinking of getting some of these for a while (either the R1280 or a higer model like yours) but have wondered about the lag for gaming. Is this one of the reasons you have yours connected to your PC via a receiver?

        • I have console game'd once or twice with the Edifiers and there was no lag. But those times I was using toslink. I prefer receivers for PC gaming mostly for the surround sound.

  • Would any of these be good step up from the logitech z623s?

    • +1

The mids will be cleaner for sure, bass will feel weaker but not as boomy. But don't expect huge step up, these are budget active speakers after all

      • +1

        how about Creative Works T3?

  • What is the difference between the r1700bt brown and black?

    • +46

One is brown. The other one is black.

      Hopefully that helped.

      • +2

Oh because the picture looks different,

Edit, I got it now, the brown one is without the cover

        • +2

Brown ones still come with a grey or black cover. Its just removed in that photo so you can see the drivers

      • lmao

  • Any of these be good to run a Chromecast Audio through?

    • +1

These have Bluetooth, but if you want to run wifi, yes.

  • +1

This is a good upgrade from logitech pc speakers :)

    • THX logi's? or only normals?

      • usual 2.0 or 2.1 logitechs.

Anyone know the difference between the R1850DB and the R1855DB? Also the R1280DB and the R1250DB?

  • +1

Got these last deal for 145 and i can say these are perfect for bedroom speakers. Using them for music and my TV for movies and they work perfectly :)

  • +1

Great deal on the new S2000MKIII's ($419 Delivered). Previous deal was $428 Delivered.

  • +3

Using 1700 for bedroom "mini cinema" experience, great bass.

  • +3

Thanks! Ordered the S2000MKIIIs, very happy with that price.

  • Good deal. Bought a pair

  • Amazon seemed to stop stocking R1700BT in the wood finish.
I wonder if they are ending their manufacture. Or maybe they are waiting for a shipment but usually you would be able to pre purchase which would suggest they are not getting more.
They are very good value speaker (on sale price) that look nice, happy i got myself a pair already.

    • They've released the BTs models which has a few upgrades like bt 5.0, aptX, sub out and new remote, possibly clearance related.

  • +1

Are there any audio delays in using the Bluetooth wireless? Thinking of connecting to projector.

  • Just picked up the R200DB, cheers.

Great timing OP. My Mackie CR3 speakers are in their death throes (buyer beware lots of people plagued with issues) after only three years so this couldn't have come at a better time!

  • Using soundlink mini II as computer speaker, is this a step up?

    • +1

Technically, yes. However, it's not an apple to apple comparison. Use cases for soundlink mini II and R1700BT are different. The former is a truly portable BT speaker with great sound in a small package but the latter gives you room-filling stereo sound and more suited as a permanent pair of desktop speakers. I got both and they are simply awesome in their own way.

      • thanks

Best to worst value for money, in my opinion:

    R1280DB $115; 42W RMS; Bluetooth 4.0

    - L Speaker Out is "speaker wired" - not isolated wires for highs, mids, lows.

    All Edifier speakers ?
    - Fixed power cable, not modular (no coupler, not extensible)
And I pray that these have Australian standard power plugs…

Cheers just purchased the R1855DB for my dad. Even though he doesn't need all the features, would be good the have just in case.

  • Edifier R1280DB

Would these be suitable for a turntable setup, given they are powered? I'm looking to put together a minimalist setup, with just the table and speakers.

    • +1

They'd work well using rca in. My dad has the P17 passives for his turntable through an amp and they're good too.

    • +1

If you want to keep it as minimal as possible, you can buy powered speakers like these and a turntable with a built in pre-amp. Some turntables even have bluetooth output.

Stay away from any turntable under $200 (unless its Audio Technica, which sometimes falls below that threshold on sale).

  • Thanks OP. Upgrading to S2000MKIII. $407.57 delivered (got $11.43 from Shopback). Cheers.

    • I have lg 200w home theatre purchased 7 years ago for around 700$ do you think this will be considered an upgrade in terms on just music listening with thumping bass?

      • Hard to say without understanding exactly what you got, 2.0, 2.1, 5.1…etc. If you are after a high-res 2.0 speakers with Bluetooth 5.0 and aptX HD decoding, then this would be far superior to 7-year-old technology IMHO. (especially at this price point).

        Cheers

      • S3000 Pro would have been, but they stopped selling it. S2000 has a 5.5in sub, S3000 pro is 6.5in.

Comparably I have a Bose system with single dedicated 6.5in sub and it works very well. But movies wise, you'll need a dedicated sub to 'feel' the base; as was my lower end Z5500's. Wires where a mess but oh that bass. I think that was a 10in

  • +1

I purchased the 1850DB at $189 earlier this year. There wouldn't be many better 2.0 near field, computer speakers available in this country at twice the price. Bass goes down to 45Hz. The R2000DB may be the only better option as they have the 5" driver, but I have concerns with the inbuilt DSP that you can't turn off. Otherwise the specs are very good. It's a pity they don't have a retail store for real life comparison.

  • Bought these Edifier S2000MKIII to upgrade from my R1280db. The price is too good to pass on.

  • If they were white they would sell twice as many.

  • Which model do you recommend for just general youtube on PC, with the occasional bluetooth to mobile phone? I need to get some speakers for my dad.

    • For you Dad, if he just a general user, then the R1580MB would be fine. Save your money.

    • R1280DB is the most popular on ozbargain. Has bluetooth, analog & digital inputs for PC.

  • Why did Wireless 1 stop selling S3000Pro? :(

  • Anyone know how these compare with the likes of Logitech Z623? Need a decent set of speakers with a good amount of bass and good quality sound for my PC

    • I own both the r1280db and the z623.
      Both are great speakers.
z623 has deeper bass and a fuller sound due to the sub and speaker size. If you like loud music, might be better. I use them instead of a soundbar for my TV. They are great for sport and movies. But aesthetically, they are getting a bit old and dorky to be honest.

The r1280db is a far more refined sound. I use them next to my pc. The bass is good, but its the mid- and upper-ranges where it excels for the price. Put it this way, if you turn your music up to the highest quality downloads, you can actually notice the difference. Not sure you would notice as much difference on the z623s. It also has built-in blue-tooth, which is a big plus for me.

Today I bought the r1700bt for a bit more clarity. I was very tempted to buy another r1280db though. They are a great speaker.

      • How do you find R1700bt comparing with r1280db?

  • I have these same speakers . They are really good sounding but lacks bass. If you want to hear some decent bass consider the version with sub out.

  • +1

    Is this over?
Prices aren't what are listed in the deal.
Still discounted, but not as much?

    • +2

Seems it's over, I missed it, but prices are basically still as low on their catch.com.au listings!
Just got myself some R1855DB's & R1700BT's (1700's were $10 more than the special on their website).
      & still free postage! I'm happy :p
