If you're in the market for Nvme drives, these are some pretty well reviewed ones. I think the 250GB is the lowest ever and the other two are pretty close (within a few dollars). The 1TB can be had for a tiny bit cheaper if you get it shipped from Amazon UK. Another option is the Kingston line of A2000's which are similar and a little bit cheaper.

250GB Out of stock
500GB price increased was $89.37
1TB price decreased to $155.78

(Note: Assumed to be not compatible with game consoles)

And for anyone wondering, these will most likely not work with the PS5. Looks like Sony will want pci-e 4 for that.

    • Yup agreed. OP should remove reference to next gen to avoid someone purchase something that won't work

      • +4

I'm the OP and I've already removed the reference. Can't be too careful I guess.

    • I’m going to reuse the USB nvme external on my PS4 for my ps5. I have a suspicion that for a period of time that they are either going to have a narrow supported list for the pci4s or retailers are going to charge a premium just because it’s ps5 compatible.

Sony just wants people to waste their money. Games run fine and have better graphics on PC and SATA SSDs are more than adequate.

        • Sata is fine, but there's not much reason to go sata over nvme on a new system design. That said, there's not really any good reason to enforce pcie4 nvme when pcie3 is already capable of 3GB/s

        • -1

Nope. Their vision for next gen is to get max use of the hardware capabilities which puts the next gen consoles at a very attractive point for anyone to consider. Pcmr will be hurt for couple of years as there won’t be matching system wide performance for a while.

For who need some comparison with satas and more expensive nvme.

No one owes you shit. Go read a book.

    • I’m wondering if the bottleneck is the ram/cpu in those tests.

      • Hmm good question.

        • Hi, some help would be appreciated. My motherboard Asus PRIME A320M-a says it supports 2242/2260/2280 M-key. Would this mean that this thing would fit?

This ssd says it's M.2 2280 (But no mention of M-key) so it should work ?

          • @paradoxez: Your motherboard just do SATA via m2 slot so there is no real gain by buying a Nvme ssd.

            • @Femelo: Thank for the help. But This Nvme ssd should still fits my M.2 and work (at typical slower SATA ~300-400MBps read/write) right? or would it just out right not be recognised at all? It if runs then I might as well grab one now for that 1TB and futureproof it if I ever replace my mobo. Nvme and the SATA one seems close in price eitherway

              • @paradoxez: Hard question I tried to find out about that and could find a final answer. There is this website with a explanation about the key types. https://www.atpinc.com/blog/what-is-m.2-M-B-BM-key-socket-3
But I couldn't find the info about the ssd. Sorry mate I don't know.

                • @Femelo: Thanks for the link. I'm doing more M.2 research in preparation for the upcoming prime day deal :D (Let's hope more NVMe and SSD deals pops up during that time too)

              • @paradoxez: It won't be recognised. You'd need to buy an M.2 SATA drive. Those aren't very common and you may we well just buy a sata 2.5" drive.

                • @macrocephalic: Yea, so if the mobo's M.2 only support SATA mode then NVMe won't work right?

But after digging around some more it seems my Mobo PRIME-A320M-A advertising page says its M.2 Support both SATA & PCIe mode

                  (Pic here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-A320M-A/ )

Would the M.2 that also PCIe mode means NVMe would work?

I also ran CrucialScan.exe and it also suggests I could purchase crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe
                  (https://www.crucial.com/scanview/A9895EBB31D926C3)

Man, SATA cables were more simple :P

                  • +1

@paradoxez: yeah pcie mode = nvme.

It's just confusing during this transition period. M.2 sata was a solution which was really only needed for SFF devices and is pretty much redundant since nvme is a comparable price now. In a few years it will be forgotten about.

  • Hoping to grab some cheap ssd and ram on prime day

  • +1

This morning I finally managed to grab on ARCTIC P12 PWM PST deal but needs buy other things to reach $50 total purchase for free international prime shipping. So I just panic-bought WD Blue M.2 1TB for $160 without being too sure whether it was a bargain or not. So seeing this post was very re-assuring XD ! Have an upvote as more deal upvote == less impulse buyer remorse for me

    • You can always order to get over $49, and then cancel part of the order.

      • u can do that? place order, part cancel, and still be eligible free ship?

        • +2

If this works the post should be deleted, they'll fix it if many do it

  • 500GB is back to $103.99.

Wait, why would anyone buy this if it sells from Amazon AU for $155?

    • It was from Amazon AU. They have just dropped the price.

      • The title made it seem like it was coming from Amazon US via Amazon AU.

        • Over the three listings there was one from US and two from AU. Limited space in the title and a fair bit of information to convey.

  • Do amazon prime day offer cheap NVMe ?

    • Yes, if I remember correctly. Last year there was the Crucial P1 1TB NVMe drive for $130. But remember not every single drive will go on sale. There will be sales on specific drives.

    • When is prime day? Thanks

      • Deals start from October 13th - from the AmazonAU homepage.

      • 13 and 14 October, coming soon!

    • Last year there was also hefty cashback, IIRC 20% for a few hours. I got a Pioneer APS-SE20G 1TB (reference Phison E12 SSD) for about $140 after cashback, haven't seen a deal as good as that since. The drive itself wasn't on sale (FBA, sold by someone else), just the cashback made it a deal. I could've had the P1 for something like $115 after cashback but I needed something better than that.

Strange. Never saw an item price go down after being featured in OZB before :) 155.78 now.

    • It’s even cheaper from a third party, 50c cheaper.

      • +1

        Avoid, bad ratings

    • Yeah, I made a note of it and adjusted the title. I bought it at $160 so Amazon gave me a $5.00 credit.

      • You will have to update title again, or just make a note in description saying price increased back to $160

    • Amazon adjusts its price based on other 3rd party sellers as well. OP posted before the price decreased (i.e. before a 3rd party seller reduced their price on Amazon). Amazon usually adjusts their price automatically to match them. Now that the 3rd party seller has increased the price again…the price has increased on the product sold and shipped by Amazon.

  • Is this really gonna get reposted twice a month?

  • Now it's $160

  • it has been around $160 for a while. I'm pretty surprised that nobody mentioned Kingston A2000 here. I always see if anyone suggests SN550 here someone else would reply that A2000 is better than SN550 and only $149 (lol)

    • Depends, where are you getting it for $149?

      • Here in ozbargain. Personally i prefer sn550/750 as they produced less heat than most of others at this price range (exclude samsung 970

    • I mentioned the a2000 in the description and stated that performance is comparable as well as price. To say its better is subjective. Amazon has the 1TB for $158. Figured most people are more familiar with WD though. I have had good experiences in recent years with WD products so can feel confident recommending the brand.

      • When it comes to memory (i.e. SSD's) then WD are the newcomer compared to Kingston.
