Gardenline Seaweed Concentrate 2L Bottle $9.99 @ ALDI Special Buys

1070

As part of Saturday's Special Buys, Aldi has 2 litre bottles of "Seaweed Concentrate" on sale for $9.99 each. While it's a safe assumption this is simply Seasol rebranded for Aldi, this is basically confirmed by the lids on these bottles, which are molded with Also… try our PowerFeed Fish Fertiliser on the top of them. PowerFeed is a trademark of Seasol International Pty Ltd… and is their fertiliser product which complements Seasol.

Given 600ml of Seasol at Woolworths on sale for $4.80 was considered a bargain, this stomps all over that given it works out to be 50c per 100ml, whereas the Woolworths deal was 80c per 100ml.

Compost, it's what plants +naturally+ use. The chemical based fertilizers eventually destroy the soil - ie. yes they feed plants but they damage the biomass leading to more disease and more insect pests, which also cost money to 'cure'.

      • True. Compost though is very smelly and smell stays there for few days.

Good compost isn't "smelly", it should have a pleasant smell like freshly turned, moist earth.

          • @CJ31: Where do we get good compost?

            • @EnALup: Steal it from Costas garden.

I like to dig in my home-made compost along with organic stuff like chicken manure pellets or blood & bone.

Eco Seaweed powder, better product, half the price per 9L solution.

    • Just wanted to see if i misunderstood this, so the 600G makes 1200L of usable liquid? Seems the same as seasol or more exp? Cant really speak of the quality with the little information I have.

      • See my link below. Good info and one fella has had a back of the envelope go at relative costs if that's important to you..

    • Thanks, will give it a try. Not sure about your arithmetic but OCP claims Eco-Seaweed is a better product. Worth a read but wouldn't be taking the claims as gospel.

      • Thanks. I found this while browsing. Looks interesting

        • Yes have some of that. It's a combo tonic and fertiliser .

          • @[Deactivated]: How does it compare with powerfeed/seasol combo?

I like how it’s in pallet form, I can let the rain wash it into the soil, rather than using tap water.

            • @delfredo: I use liquid seaweed primarily for new in-ground and potted plants, organic pellet fertiliser/tonic for general garden, grass, trees. As you say it's a simple job to scatter some everywhere you need to and let nature do the rest. Only thing wrong with some pellet organics is they smell for a few days, hence probably best to apply before rain. Don't use Powerfeed but can't see anything wrong with it.

Organic fertilisers, composts etc are better for the environment in general but most people don't have the time or interest to make their own so best advice is do a little reading about the specific plants in your garden, buy appropriate products, use as directed (don't over-fertilise, fertilise at the right time using plant-specific fertilisers as necessary etc). You really can't do much harm IF you do those things AND don't allow trees and plants to go into shock due to long-term lack of water if you live in a dry region. If you have natives then you need to be much more careful about fertiliser selection and use. During the drought when I watered the grass I was actually doing it primarily for the benefit of the large trees I have.

              • @[Deactivated]: Agree - this is what I do also except with roses and citrus for which I use fertilisers specifically formulated for them.

  • Still heaps (15 or so) in stock at Kingsway if anyone in Perth is looking for some

  • And that is how I met your mother

  • how to use this?
