  • 4 Bay 2GB RAMĀ <——-is the ram upgradeable?

    • No it's not.

  • Much difference in the realtek quad core vs the intel machines?

Been keen on one of these boxes for a while now, think i might pull trigger on this deal.

    • What's your planned use of the NAS?

      • Media stream/server backup. I have a 24 bay 4U server, but want an offsite/backup of most important stuff. Have some spare 8TB HDDs i have yet to shuck so would put them in here.

        • Media playback is normally more suitable on the Intel models but this will do fine for backups.

The 10Gbe and Intel J3355 models will be going on sale too during Prime Day.

Also f4-210 1gb was cheaper just recently; https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/568418

    Will it transcode for Plex?

    • +1

      no

    • my big (and only) question too

  • +3

are any of these models suitable as Plex server and capable of transcoding? (not 4k)

    • +1

      would also like to know
edit: the other comment says no for transcoding

  • WIll these be suitable just for basic file and document storage that auto-backs up one drive to the next? Only a small office with moderate access and updating. WOuld be accessed by several networked Macs. I currently use QNAP, but while the user interface of this NAS is not important, reliability is.

    • +1

      yes

  • whats the discount? the 2 gb model is almost a deal…

    • 20% off when the deal starts.

      • the 4 bay 2gb is close to a good price, specially with amazon returns

  • Can anyone comment on the noise level of these?

    • Probably most dependant on the drives you put in it . I've never heard my Asustor over the drive noise .

  • Does anybody know anything about the compatibility of drives with these? On their website (https://www.terra-master.com/global/compatibility/) they have a list of compatible drives for NAS but neither of the WD drives in the deals here or here seem to be listed. Does this mean they definitely won't work or is there still some chance? I'd like to pick up 2 drives and a 2 bay NAS but this is giving me doubts.

    • Of course they're not going to list those drives because they're external hard drives! You'll have to do the tape mode once shucked for them to work.

      • Ah okay, I'm new to this. Thanks for the help!

  • 2GB 4 Bay model is coming up at $419.99 for me , other models are discounted.

Does this allow recording security camera footage like the synology surveillance station app?
