  • Not the cheapest but ok I suppose

    • Yeah, I paid $51 ea for a couple a month ago. So this is a good price, maybe not a buy before thinking if you need them price though. Now I just need to get them setup so I never need a light switch again :o

People are just posting whatever they see on the prime deals list. So annoying when many are not really anything to get excited about.

    • +3

I've only posted things I've actually thought were good enough that I purchased them. This is a good deal. Maybe not 'prime day exciting' but a deal on any other day. (Cheapest price in 11 months and I've been hanging out for them).

    • So we should be using your definition of "excitement" as a barometer for Prime deals worth posting? Interesting…

Cheapest looks like was $29 Nov last year. Still a decent price if after one.

Also good to pickup the dimmer switch if have a few globes. I ran into problem of them not detecting after almost a year in storage and in new place. Had to factory reset them, having the dimmer switch makes this so easy to do.

    • They were around $23 from bunnings late last year.

      • Man wish Id seen Id of put one in every room for that.

  • OP do you have any reliability issues with your Hue/LIFX/Homekit setup?

    • I've had a couple, but I think that's down to the very old iPad 2 mini I'm using as the hub, when I restart that they go away. LIFX itself has been rock solid for a few years though, with Google Assistant. It's just Homekit that seems to be the issue. I need to really setup Home bridge / home assistant for some of my older LIFX lights though as they're not directly home kit compatible and I've not got around to that yet.

When everything is talking properly it's like magic, walk into a room and the lights turn on (and the other rooms turn off if setup that way).

      • Yeah maybe Homekit is the bottleneck.

I had a mix of LIFX and Hue bulbs (with bridge), using Apple TV 4K as hub - very inconsistent performance when using the Hue dimmers to control the LIFX bulbs.

I've since replaced the LIFX bulbs with Hue, and now have near-perfect consistency.

It's just a pity that the Hue bulb brightness is so much lower than LIFX.

Edit: are you in the market for more LIFX bulbs? ;)

The Outdoor sensor is $71 (down from $99)

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Lights-Accessories-Outdoor…

Just grabbed a Hue Colour Starter kit for $145 and was looking at one of them too

  • IKEA had a box full of ZigBee motion sensors for 10 dollars a pop at clearance section last week.

    Pair fine with my ZigBee2mqtt.

Personally aqua or IKEA is good enough and half the price. No clue why you want to get this unless you want lux reading per room.

But do they work in the Hue app? I've got a number of Hue motion sensors and using the Hue sensor couple from Hue labs, so if one sensor in a pair detects motion the lights will go on and wont go off until both sensors no longer detect motion. I have them coupled at the top/bottom of the stairs, each end of the hallway, each end of the kitchen, each end of the bathroom etc.

Also the Hue sensor takes 2 AAA's and after 2 years im on the same batteries, all my cheap Zigbee sensors in SmartThings are only lasting 6 months on average and at around $4 for CR2450's it adds up.

      • My Aqua motions as been running for 2 years now and no battery change yet apart from temperature sensor which has constant update roughly 2 years.

IKEA has two CR battery, so not sure how long they will last as I just install them.

I mean bulk cr battery can be make unit cost lower then 4$. I was gonna buy bulk and replace all sensor when a couple start to fail anyways.

Home assistant, so that automation isn't hard to achieve.

        • I guess you answered your own question when you said no clue why people would want these. Hue labs provides a lot of formulas like sensor couple, you can tell Alexa to snooze a sensor, have sensors do different things on weekends etc, without having to buy another device and setup Home Assistant.

They also have thermometers built in, so you can get temp readings throughout the house without having to buy separate thermometers and you can have lights turn on if for example the pantry sensor gets too hot which is doing double duty turning the pantry light on when the door is opened.

And they have lux sensors, i wouldn't get a motion sensor to control lights that didnt have one time is a poor trigger for activation.

Dont get me wrong i'm no Hue fanboy, and i think a lot of their stuff is overpriced but i have a whole house full of Hue lights and sensors and the stuff just works flawlessly for me and these sensors for $39 are good at that price point. But RRP is too much for them.

Just checked a couple of items listed here from Bunnings website, seem to be standard prices:

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-hue-home-automate-indoor…
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-hue-bridge_p4320764

    • +1

They're actually not, Bunnings have matched the prices. I was looking earlier today and the prices were higher on Bunnings website.

  • Where is it for $39? All I get is "New (4) from $50.00 + $15.08 Delivery" and only from third-party sellers. Is the link wrong?
