Lacie 1TB External Hard Drive Designed by Neil Poulton

Lacie 1TB External Hard Drive Designed by Neil Poulton
The user-friendly LaCie Hard Drive, Design by Neil Poulton adds sophisticated style to your desktop yet its presence is quiet and unobtrusive. It has a unique distinguishing feature - a cool, blue LED strip on its underside that creates an ambient glow. Its subtle, all-black design blends perfectly into dark home entertainment setups and workstations. Very small for its vast capacity, this lightweight, compact drive has a fashionable, mirror-polished finish. The smartly engineered design allows for heat dissipation and near-silent, fanless operation. Setup is nearly effortless; it’s plug and play and offers customizable formatting. LaCie '1-Click' Backup Software for PC and Mac is included for quickly saving files in one click.

  • Which brand of HDD do they use in this one?

  • Is it just me or does this external disk look more like a simple black brick than a case with "The Most beautiful case design". How hard can it be to design a black brick?
That said, I think its still a good price for an external 1TB disk.

    • Yeah but have you seen the Lacie FA Porsche design? Very minimalist.

    • Simple is beautiful :)

Lacie design is minimalistic and elegant, which the way I prefer it :)

    • No, it's not just you. I too see a black box dressed up with a marketing strategy.

    • It's French… So of course they believe it's better than anything else!

  • Warranty speaks 1000 words. 2 years means they don't trust their own product. WD=4yrs SG=5years

    • Is the warranty for the case and the hard drive together or are they treated separately? If they do indeed have a Seagate drive in them it would be surprising to only have 2 years warranty.

In the case of the Mwave Western Digital 1TB Green Power + E-SATA/USB2 Astone external case deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/5669 afaik they get treated separately.

      • The downside buying this DIY case + internal drive (either built by shop or DIY), most enclosure only carries 1 year warranty. While the proper external storage by WD, Seagate, etc, the warranty is for the whole component (case+drive).

    • WD only 3 years for their external storage range and
Seagate is 5 years, replacement drive for the first 3, and only 25% credit on 4th year and 10% credit on 5th year. So technically you still get 3 years from Seagate.

Since I work in the industry, I don't use storage product for longer than 1 year anyway :) ..
