  • Why do XPSs all now come with Windows Home rather than Pro?

    • Do you feel a big difference? The only difference I have noticed (based on my tasks) is the remote desktop feature. Other than that they both feel similar to me.

      • I've never used Home. I just noticed that they changed from Pro to Home at some point for the top-of-the-line laptop.

        • I guess probably to save money( better profit margin :) ). My XPS13 also came with Win10 Home

      • +1

The only difference I have noticed (based on my tasks) is the remote desktop feature.

The Remote Desktop client has existed in both Windows Home and Pro editions since Windows 2000; both the built-in Microsoft Terminal Services component (and the RDP client) and the newer Windows 10 store app.

    • You don't need Windows Pro editions unless you're using your PC/laptop in a Windows Server environment and connecting to a Windows domain.

  • How does this compare to the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon and T-series in terms of Linux support and full-stack development?

    • I have a year old XPS13 and an X1 Carbon 6th gen for development purposes. Both are very well supported, although with the latest Ubuntu (20.04) the atheros wifi driver keeps crashing, seems to be a common problem since 18.04.

If you install on the Dell, read this first:

  • That’s a great deal, thanks for sharing.

Only $250 more than the identical model in Outlet!

Was about to grab it from Outlet but now I’m torn!

  • WELL that didn’t last long, back to $2959 😂

By the way the new dell XPS is already releasing, with next gen intel chip .. integrated graphics performance more than twice the speed of this one and processor performance significantly better https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/cty/pdp/spd/xps-13-9310-lapt…

Note it has i7-1165G7 not 1067G7 .. and big difference in cpu speed which goes to 4.7 Ghz not 3.9 Ghz

I personally wouldn't spend that much on a laptop that is not cutting edge .. and that's aside from the poor dell quality control with so many different issues, and xps 13 common coil whine.

  • for once, 11th gen is more than a 5% incremental speed increase.

    • well given how nuts the 4000 ryzen series was, they had to step up and bring it.
