I wasn't signed in when I did this quick check if that matters.

  • +1

My GST disappeared when I went to the checkout (hence price in title)

    • I was in the checkout when I copy and pasted that.

      • bought one the other day. Didn't get charge GST as well

        • same to me, no GST
this has been in Newegg for weeks, great price!

      • I think you were in the cart, not checkout

        • +1

Well I just bought one of the AM4 version and I got charged gst…

          Happy to pay it though.

          • @Joost: Seems like it's only the regular edition that removes GST

  • +1

Luckily could cancel my order with Amazon US as they were taking ages to ship, and ordered this instead.

Used PayPal and didn't have to pay gst.

What's the difference between normal and special AM4 edition? Thought the normal one also has AM4 support?

    • +1

The AM4 edition doesn't support any other socket without purchasing more parts.

      • +1

Granted noctua usual sends mounts for free when you request them.

        • They do, but be aware it does take a while. I ordered an AM4 adaptor one for my old U9B which is going to my brother's 3600 build, took around a month to arrive.

Equivilent 6 Heatpipe Snowman for $40 if you are looking for a cheaper option. Very happy with my 4 heatpipe version for my Ryzen 3600, very cool and quiet.

This $31 version is the one I have https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001048943147.html

    and 5% cashback @ Ali.

    • shipping times though….

      • +1

2 weeks to 2 months, gotta roll the dice!

        • notice a lot of evilbay sellers are doing the extended shipping date range now - up to Mid January! May as well say possibly in your lifetime

    • took your advice and ordered a T6 snowman dual fan
EDIT - re shipping - just paid for the EMS with tracking - i've been relatively ok with the <3-4 weeks shipping time frame so far

  • Even if you don’t care about temps. It can be worth replacing your stock cooler with something like this to lower the fan noise of your pc under load.

  • Is there any word yet about the 5xxx zen3 regarding cooling?

I'd love to get this but itd be a waste if its not strong enough.
Maybe I'll just wait for reviews of them first

    • +3

Should be same as 3xxx, they pointed out specifically that they kept power consumption the same while improving performance.

  • Note: the other noctua coolers are also available. just grabbed the U14S for $98.26

shame to let my Lucifer v2 go.

  • Are you able to install a 2nd fan on this cooler?

    • +1

      Yes

  • I have this cooler on a significantly overclocked i5 6600k (from 3.9 Ghz —> 4.5 Ghz). It keeps the CPU below 72C under max load and if you set a sensible fan curve (e.g. make the fan speed ramp up only when your CPU is getting quite warm) it is very quiet.

    • I have the same cpu running at stock, what motherboard are you using and what voltage?

I'm interested in overclocking mine and would love some tips.

      • +1

Motherboard is an Asus Maximus VIII Hero which was pretty high end at the time. I can run 4.5 GHz perfectly stable at 1.344v peak (this is the measured reading not what I set in bios). General wisdom is that as long as you stay below 1.35v that's completely fine for everyday usage.

As long as you have a Z-series motherboard overclocking Skylake (6600k, 6700k etc) is very easy. The only settings you need to change are CPU core ratio (e.g. from 39x to 45x if you want 4.5 GHz), CPU voltage and maybe load line calibration (LLC) which helps avoid dips in voltage under heavy load.

        My exact settings are:
        - CPU core ratio: 45x all-cores
        - Vcore: 1.295v
        - Voltage offset: +0.01
        - LLC level 6

When I first overclocked I found this guide very helpful because it explained the different BIOS settings which aren't always named the same way between manufacturers: https://www.tweaktown.com/guides/7481/tweaktowns-ultimate-in…

You should obviously start with a more modest overclock e.g. 4.3 GHz which every 6600k should be able to do at a sensible voltage.

        • Thanks, I'll try it out. My challenge is navigating the bios with a usb keyboard, doesn't seem to work. I got a cheapy asrock z170 board too… so it may not happen.
