Luck with Refund from JB Hi-Fi?

Hello Members

I bought a Samsung S20 FE 5G on a Telstra Plan of $99 Just this Morning and paid like $149 upfront for 5G Model. . Later in the evening i found this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/573382 seems the price of the phone reduced by $150. I am entitle for money back as it happened same day? I was at work and by the time i decided to contact them they were closed for business so not sure tomorrow they will refused or what?

Anyone ever had a luck in similar sutuation?

Thanks

Edit: I spoken with Store Manager who was happy to refund me the difference back today.

    • I think it would have been more appropriate if they quoted a line from The Castle.

Transaction is done, and at the time you were happy to pay the quoted price, so buyer's regret/remorse (due to seeing a lower advertised price after your transaction was done) won't help you with JB.

Did you happen to pay via a credit card that has purchase protection?

    • I paid via my Visa debit card.

You are not entitled to anything.

    • -4

In this country, you’re not entitled to much, that’s for sure.

      • What a ridiculous comment.

      • Well you're entitled to alot of welfare, but not many rights.

        • And unsurprisingly the welfare has conditions that impede on rights.

  • +4

The entitlement is disgusting. I hope the shop tells OP to F off.

  • +4

So in your opinion, up to what point should the shop stop refunding the difference to you if the price keeps dropping?

  • -1

Too bad mate that's life supply and demand

  • +1

Lots of credit cards has in built price changes into it for cases just like this. They will refund you the difference if there is a price drop within 1-3months

  • +2

Unopened have 30 days 100% refund.

  • -3

Don't get why everyone is coming down on OP like that. 30 days for full refunds, no questions asked is the norm with eBay plus, amazon and Officeworks. JB Hi Fi should be the same, if not, they will eventually if they want to stay competitive. It's unopened and less than a week. Bring it back and let us know how it goes.

Then we have that scam issue with JB that was posted months ago. It's disappointing to find after you purchased something and find it cheaper at same store or elsewhere. Buyer regret. Move on. Or see if you can get a store credit or refund. Up to store. OP needs a credit card with price protection.

      It is?

You return the item within 30 days of purchase
You produce a satisfactory proof of purchase (being your original register receipt or online proof of purchase, such as a tax invoice)
The item is in re-saleable condition, including its original packaging (if any), is unused and as sold

          might have missed this bit
          UNUSED!

the OP clearly used their phone for the month

            @SBOB:

I bought a Samsung S20 FE 5G on a Telstra Plan of $99 Just this Morning

          • @SBOB: The FE has only been on sale since last Wednesday! 🤦‍♂️

I bought it on Tuesday from JB.

            • @Techie4066: Yep , my bad on the time period as I was thinking of the other poster on the thread complianing about a month later.

Doesn't change the fact that none of these stores have full refunds within 30 days , full refund, no questions asked opened/used products as their policy.

    • Agreed, disappointing from JB. Their excuse is that the free Galaxy Buds are no longer bundled, but we had no choice to accept that promotion or not.

Appears my iPhone 8 I bought at launch is now cheaper!
I’m going to Apple store to demand a credit

Is it unopened and less than 30 days?

      • +1

Nah it’s trashed, however I was assured it would be a high yield investment

  • +8

OP, if the price increased by $150 after you bought it, and you received a phone call from JB demanding that you pay them that $150, would you do that?

    • +7

This. This is the absolute acid test for this question. We all know what OP's quite rightful response would be.

Interestingly, so many questions posed on these forums recently should just be looked at from the reverse perspective to see how ridiculous they are. The forums seem to be littered with people who have some sort of life event and are then looking for a way to shirk their responsibilities.

      • -2

How is it an acid test when it's a completely different scenario? The customer-store relationship is far more important than how the store sees its customers. The store never buys things off the customer, so your point is completely invalid.

    • If OP is the type of person with such upstanding principles, do you think they would post this thread in the first place? 😂

  • Happens all the time with Samsung phones. el tanko lol.

I bought t-bone steak from coles last week for $35/kg, this week it's $27/kg.

Do you think they'll refund me the difference?

You were happy with the price at the time you purchased, you can ask politely but they also have the right to refuse.

    • Can't compare a steak and a phone. The Good Guys, Officeworks and Harvey Norman all have a price guarantee because the products they sell are in a completely different price range and generally aren't one-time uses.

      • The Good Guys, Officeworks and Harvey Norman

Tough luck to the OP as they bought their phone from JB Hi-Fi.
I don't think they offer price protection guarantees.

        • No they don't, ridiculously.

  • Lots of… controversial comments in this post. Kinda funny

    • People should get salty about Petrol prices too :D

      • Petrol prices vs a $1000 phone that you buy every 2-3 years?

        • OP bought into a bundled plan and a phone. Feels “ripped off” (after 12hrs owning the phone) when a price drop took place for an outright phone.

Petrol prices fluctuates a lot, from what I’ve seen in Sydney. Recently 40c per litre difference.
Say someone fills 40L per week, buys 26 weeks at upper end price and 26 weeks low end, over 2 years.

          40L x 40c x 26wks x 2years = $832 extra and without any resale value.

Phone prices drop over time, so when you are “unlucky” enough to buy just before the “cliff” drop, feels really bad, because your crystal ball powers failed you. Who knows why it drops, maybe the manufacturer decided to drop, phone company giving a better subsidy.

If people are going get salty, with larger sum then share prices changes would be more significant… Anyway, thanks for your opinion, this entire post’s conversations is starting to get circular.

  • Weren't you unlucky

  • -2

Phoned and they wouldn't refund the difference because the Buds bundle promotion has now ended. Then they discounted the phone! So much for a promotion. No loss though - Buds are worth more than the $150 difference. Just have to get them sold now.

Downvoted by people who aren't in the same situation as me. Love you all.

      • I didn't neg you, but it's only 1 downvote…no need to be so triggered…

  • $149 + $600 ETC = $749

    $999 Outright

Do you owe JB the $250 they missed out on from the outright purchase?

  • I spoken with Store Manager who was happy to refund me the difference back today.
