[PC/Mac] Ableton Live Lite Free @ Splice

500

As I was searching for the price of Ableton Live, the first page of results showed it's available for free, as posted on Engadget: https://www.engadget.com/ableton-live-10-lite-free-splice-18…

Ableton Live Lite is a music creation software. It generally only comes with music devices. Via Splice, it is free until December 31, 2020 to everyone with a Splice account. Accounts on splice.com are free, so just sign up and then download Ableton Live Lite here:
https://splice.com/daws/38929163-live-10-lite-vst-by-ableton and you get the digital license key.

Splice is a good site, in my opinion. It offers free and paid plugins and music files, as well as ways for you to share your tracks with others (for free or you can charge). They are always looking for you to buy something, so opt out of mailing list if you're not interested, but they also offer free services like backing up your audio tracks and competitions (for example there was a Moby remix competition a while ago, with all the separate stems, or song parts, provided from two songs for remixing).

Steps to redeem:
Sign up for a free account with Splice.com
Use the link above or search for Ableton Lite on splice.com (it's in the DAW section)
Click to get the product
Copy the license key from the next page
Use the download link to install it
Put in the license key
Enjoy

I thought this was something to do with a Splice ice cream :(

I enjoyed my time with Live Lite but it feels really limited after a while, and the cost of the other editions is far too high even with the education discount… Using Logic now and enjoying it, I loved Live but the cost kinda soured me on it. Worth trying Lite if you have never used a DAW before or want to try a new DAW.

    • How much was logic when you bought it?

I've been a Pro Tools user and that's an expensive habit to break.

    • if you're a student, I have a licence you can get for cheap … :D

  • Moby sucks, but this is good

  • Is this an alternative to audacity?

    • +1

Audacity is more about editing one or 2 audio files together and matching

Ableton can be used to create beats and production, sync up midi keyboards and controllers and beat match between tracks.

Its a mixing software or music creation software with millions of plugins or pitch shifting with controllers and dials.

I would not look at Ableton for the simple stuff that Audacity does. If you can get it done in Audacity then stay in Audacity, there can be a big learning curve to ableton.

Ableton is an incredible piece of music creation software. Even if you know nothing about music. Just mixing and matching beats and samples is hours of entertainment.
If Kevin Parker's all over it, you can't go wrong…

  • How it compares to Audacity?

  • +3

Hehe. No comparison. Seriously. Like windows paint compared to Photoshop.

    • What about paint.net?

  • Im sticking with fruity loops

  • Pro Tools and Ableton… Bah.. Reaper all the way.

    • Rightio Skrillex.

  • magix music software is the best for me but its not cheap

  • I have a student licence I am looking to transfer if anyone's interested. Need to supply proof to Ableton of your eligiblity but it's a legit licence transfer. Also have a Serum licence PM me if you keen. I paid $629 AUD for Ableton, about 180 for serum, and I have the Ableton music book which I got for 45, can chuck that in too if someone wants a deal :D

    • oh and a kontrol 32 midi keyboard

      • I'd like to message you but I don't think you have PMs enabled.

        • Thanks for pointing that out. Fixed now and I PMd you :)

  • Thanks OP

  • A Live lite license can often get you a discount on the other editions of live, so this is worth checking out.

  • Can anyone tell me how to redeem? The Splice website seems to state available "till Dec 23" but it still showing as "free". From the OP's instructions above, I can't see where to "click to get the product". Thanks in advance.

    • Pretty sure OP has it wrong, cut off looks like it was indeed the 23rd. Sad times.
