  • I applied it to my account but it's not coming through

  • I got one thanks!

  • +33

Just wanna mention one thing to everyone who planned to grab one of this.
I have had this for more than one year and it works fine if it's away from your working area.
If you want to put this near your working space where you don't want to hear a constant low white noise while it is charging your laptop or iPad, then you should buy something other than this.

    • +5

Thanks for the heads up dude

    • Thanks, this is kinda common for fast chargers, but some are quieter than others

    • Using mine for 5months, haven't notice this sound yet

      • +2

It is a very high-frequency noise that might not be heard by everyone. Kinda sensitive to that for me.

        • Yep, everyone’s hearing is different and especially with the younger ears they can hear higher frequency sounds than older people. I have one of these on order and I hope I won’t hear that charging noise.

        • +1

Have you tried it on multiple units before speculated on my hearing ability.

        • -1

I get that high-frequency noise from wifi routers/laptop use and more than one mobile phone near me whilst using laptop

After I had a few days of trying in ear bluetooth earbuds. I even get a higher frquency sound getting louder then going

from one ear to the other and sometimes even an ear pooping sound ( similar to equalising when gaing altitude or

diving. The sound is one thing, but are people not in the least a little concerned about EMF effects on the body/brain?

Hmmm…"The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase."

    • I had to contact Amazon about this, they said they would manually apply it afterwards.

  • Does it work with Switch dock?

    • +2

If you're charging the Switch alone then it's not an issue, but I would be careful using any charger aside from the official Nintendo Switch power adapter when using it docked.

Nintendo used a non-standard USB-C PD of 15W when docked. It needs to be that otherwise you could brick your console.

      • +1

There is nothing non-standard about that. That wattage is able to be delivered at 5 and 9v according to spec https://www.usb.org/document-library/usb-power-delivery

USB PD is unable to destroy anything. There is a negotiation that occurs before any power is delivered

        • Good point. I went down the rabbit hole of why those 3rd docks would brick the Switch and it turns out it's a combo of Nintendo's non-standard USB-C plug (a smaller plug so you can take it of the dock easily) and shitty 3rd party PD controllers.

However the dock still requires a 15W PD profile otherwise it won't work. Most USB-C chargers (like the one above) don't have that profile and not many on the market do. Chalk that up to Nintendo wanting to sell more accessories, I suppose.

  • thanks OP got 1

  • Thanks. My Mac gives me a low intensity shock when I charge it using unearthed chargers. :-(

  • Applied the code, but not showing on checkout??

  • Cool, thanks :)

  • Wondering if anyone knows if this can charge dell xps 15 without?

  • Got one Thanks, will be handy for new iPhones.

    • sucks that new iphone doesnt come with charger anymore hey..

      • Yeah like they’ve only been giving usb c chargers in the box for one year.. so most people don’t really have those lying around.
Should’ve at least been next year for this move but oh well.

        • Because they want everyone to buy their MagSafe charger instead.

          • @FrugalNotStingy: Even if you buy MagSafe, I thought you still need to buy a usb-c charging block since MagSafe also uses usb-c?

            • @tyvod: Yep, just had a look at the MagSafe charger, the $69 Apple charges it for does not include the charging block so unless people have an existing Apple charger or a third party one like the Xiaomi of this deal (provided it doesn’t go wonky with MagSafe) you can’t win but to suck it up and spend more money to get the Apple charging block.

        • did they switch to USB C? If so, only iPad Pro users have the charger. Everything else is still lightning, so to assume that every iphone user has one already is hubris. This was a cost cutting move to increase profits.

          • @lostn: No they didn’t. It will still be lightning. I was planning to ditch my lightning cables when they break but now I will be looking at buying a few spares. Thanks to that.

            • @FrugalNotStingy: You can exchange the broken lighting cable for a new one at the apple store if it is still within a 2-year warranty (standard) in Australia.

              • @maxdba: I don’t really like the lightning cables Apple includes with their devices. They are flimsy and short.

      • wow. It was rumored they would do that but I didn't think they would. Now everyone's going to copy them and do the same.

        • +1

Its for the ""environment"" : )

          • +4

@iDrownFish: That's bull shit. Now people have to buy adapter separately, that's another box, headphones separately that's another box, all going to waste again. Apple is not saving the world/environment , they are just saving money in their bank accounts.

            • @Modesty: i would accept their premise if they cut the price of the phone accordingly to make up for how much you will need to spend to buy the headphones (it will cost you more to buy them separately than what is factored into the price of the phone). But of course there's no price cut.

          • +1

@iDrownFish: Environmental benefit my a$$. It’s just an excuse for further money grab now Tim & co have run out of innovative ideas after the departure of Jobs.

      • Note that you can still use your standard lightning to USB-A cable and charger for these. They just won't support the iPhones fast charge capabilities like the USB-C option does. You can get the 18W USB-C wall chargers now for <$20 so its not a big outlay given the phone will come with the USB-C to lightning cable.

Agreed that its a bit of a money grab from Apple not including the charger and headphones anymore - they say its environmental and allows them to package it smaller, ship more per crate and therefore it has less environment impact. But what about shipping for the charger and heaphones separately….

With most devices now going USB-C lots of people will start to have chargers available, lots of laptops sold within the last year will have them bundled.

  • hmm.. i am trying to use $10 credit from the $100 gift card promotion and now it only accepting either the shop coupon or the gift card disc of $10 .. strange.. if i put 20OFFTRIO it says The promotional code you entered cannot be applied to your purchase

    • I am speculating that it is not stackable? The store 20% coupon override the $10 credit from the gift card,maybe..

    • +4

That $10 Amazon credit can only be used for 'sold and fulfilled by Amazon' orders.

  • What power cord does this come with? AU/US? and is it just a figure 8 power cord on the back, or something else?

    • +1

I believe it's a standard figure 8 and these come with an AU cable.

  • How do these compare to the newer GaN chargers?

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Charger-Foldable-Adapter-Included-…

    • +1

      1 more USB C port

  • +3

Just got it, they sent Australian power cord extra out of the box. Inside the box was the chinese one

  • How hot does this unit get when using PD charging?

  • This seems to be not certified by any independent facilities (ETL, UL or RCM) this video confirms it at 1:44 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLlRvlKJzAs. While it does not mean it is automatically not safe, it also is not guaranteed to be safe. Would spend the extra $9 on a Blitzwolf unit (UL certified) for peace of mind https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/blitzwolf-bw-s16.
