  • Does Acer cover warranty on US units imported into Australia or does it have to be shipped back to the US?

      • Actually after looking at that, due to the words "temporarily" and "proof of traveller status" I'd say there is no warranty in Australia.

So might have to be shipped to Amazon US.

Would most likely need to rely on Amazon AU Global Store Returns Policy if that is the case

          • @shellshocked: how much would it cost to send something like this back?

how saving are we really getting on this deal anyway?

            • @pinkybrain: Well I sent a DOA laptop via Amazon and it didn't cost me anything. Amazon online rep refunded everything when I returned it using one of their options.

            • @pinkybrain: Well when I googled the processor, the closest I found is $949 on Lenovo website with 14" FHD (smaller than the screen on the post)
Similar spec on Acer website is $989

Disclaimer, I'm not an expert but also looking for laptop deals

  • what is the normal price?

also how is this compared to this in spec?

That's an 8th Gen Intel CPU. Intel is now at 10th gen moving to 11th. The AMD Ryzen 4500u is faster than Intel 10th gen and 11th gen in a lot of benchmarks.

      https://www.techspot.com/review/2045-amd-ryzen-4500u/

The AMD 4500U is up to 52% faster in video encoding vs an Intel i7 1065G7.

  • Not massively tech savvy but get the jist of wats solid after lurking here long enough…the better half needs a new laptop, been using a poverty toshiba satellite almost a decade old lol… she doesn't do anything special on it (apart from open 100 tabs and never close anything, this got upgradable ram?) but want something decent to last her a while. Been waiting for the amazon flex5 or another e14/15 deal to pop up around 850. Much real difference between this and an e15?

get a reliable machine with a good screen. pm me I can help you choose. lots of good options in Dell outlet atm

      • Hey @shabaka, Can I take you up on this offer of dm'ing you?

        • sure

          • @shabaka: When you say reliable and good screen are you sure you're talking about Dell?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 7000 series from the Dell outlet a couple of years ago.

The screen backlight bleed was terrible and Dell agreed so they replaced the screen. The next one was worse. They replaced it again at my insistence and it was terrible again.

So I got a refund on it and bought an XPS instead which had a good screen. However the headphone socket was crackly when listening via it. I had to update drivers and mess around without any improvement so they swapped the motherboard. I can't remember why but they swapped the motherboard again and all seemed ok. However the headphone audio was never perfect, it intermittently played up. I gave up on doing anything more about it and I've still got the machine.

            • @skysurfer: that's quite different from any experience I had or heard about. I had and serviced a lot of laptops.. I had premium purchases from Outlet being slightly imperfect, but that was fixed without much discussion and never occurred again

at any rate, business grade hardware will always be more reliable because that's what it's for. so when I say reliable I mostly mean Dell latitude. even latitude 3000 will be more robust and reliable than XPS or Inspiron 7000.

and you are saying that in an Acer laptop thread. are you implying Acer should be more reliable than Dell? if so colour me impressed

that said though, quality of all hardware is declining and that's a troubling trend.

if you are within warranty, keep pushing, aim for refund and get something else instead.

    • This has upgradeable RAM and SSD. However it looks like the slots are both populated.

  • I seem to remember reading this has some flaws. Very poor screen???
Still with this CPU and for the price would make a good notebook for high schoolers.
